Chapter 51: Chapter 51: Black Pit Technique - Sub-line with Bait

Zhang Yang prepared the bait, quickly entering a battle-ready state. Today’s main fishing was a bit different from usual; it was aimed at making a strong comeback, so the bait preparation was very thorough.

He started with three kilos of bait, and there were still two unopened packs in the tackle box. If the fish activity was good, Zhang Yang would throw them in without hesitation.

Forget everything else; first, let’s attract all the fish from the surroundings.

As the main fishing proceeded, the fish activity matched his expectations. The fish were of good quality, and within half an hour, people started catching fish one after another.

Seeing this, Zhang Yang intentionally increased his intensity, casting one rod after another with high frequency.

From the start of fishing, Qian Wenbo kept an eye on Zhang Yang’s actions, cleverly copying his moves, somewhat like stealing techniques.

Zhang Yang used a short rod; so did Wenbo. Zhang Yang led a few balls with lead, and Wenbo followed suit. Later, Zhang Yang shifted to double hooks with Triangle Cannon at a high frequency, and Wenbo copied that frequency as well.

Although due to differences in basics, he lagged slightly, Wenbo was able to keep up in general direction.

Though they exchanged no words, Zhang Yang knew the other was competitive. With a thought, he changed his fishing technique.

Zhang Yang craftily pinched out two dates-sized bait balls with double hooks, abandoning the Triangle Cannon, switching directly to a sub-line bomb!

He picked up a handful of scattered feed, spreading it in his palm. After baiting the double hooks, he pressed the sub-line into the feed pile at the heart position, his palm squeezing the bait into a ball.

The rod raised, the scattered feed on the sub-line slid slowly from the sub-line’s middle to position on the top hook, stopped by the pinched bait, then gracefully swayed into the fishing spot.

Seeing this might confuse some; lead bombs are understandable since there’s a seat for lead to weigh on, allowing bait to be held securely.

But how does a sub-line carry a bomb? Can it be cast out?

Responsibly speaking, it can be cast out, but it requires high skill in baiting technique, force, and bait state from the angler.

For most people, mastering this is quite challenging, but for Zhang Yang, it’s a breeze!

Compared to the usual Triangle Cannon method, the advanced sub-line bomb technique’s most notable difference is effectively increasing bait volume without affecting entry water state.

Think about it, pinching two Triangle Cannons on double hooks, together the weight of two bait balls isn’t much.

While on a sub-line, squeezing a large scatter bomb takes shape all at once, thus the baiting efficiency is naturally higher.

Many fish stars have gathered in the fishing area, but Zhang Yang wasn’t eager to start. He continued gathering fish with repeated casts.

After five to six casts of sub-line bomb, Wenbo finally noticed something off, a glance from the corner of his eye leaving him stunned!

This... what kind of fishing technique is this?

There are only two nylon lines on the sub-line, yet it could hold scatter bombs and cast into the water?

How did Zhang Yang do it?

With questions filling his mind, Wenbo tried it himself, grabbing a handful of scatter feed, spreading his palm and pressing the sub-line at the center, closing his fingers tightly.

On releasing, an egg-sized bait clump flung through the sub-line and splattered onto his foot.

The scatter feed’s water ratio was off and baiting technique was wrong; it was unlikely to cast out!

"Gosh! Damn!" Wenbo couldn’t help but exclaim, feeling like he’d discovered a new world.

Zhang Yang glanced at him, his lips curling slightly without speaking, deliberately slowing his baiting speed, squeezing the bait again, and flicking his wrist to cast.

Wenbo watched seriously from start to finish, copying the motions, but the result was the same as before.

None of the bait was wasted—every bit crashed onto his foot.

Smilingly, Zhang Yang shook his head, continuing to fish, leaving Wenbo in a confused daze.

...

The fishing unknowingly extended to around seven-ten.

Originally, Zhang Yang’s new bait had a more pronounced enticing scent. Coupled with continuous large amount baiting with the sub-line bomb, several factors combined quickly riled up the fish in the fishing area.

The area was no longer just densely packed fish stars in a boiling state; the surface was murky, bold fish jumped out showing themselves, diving back down, akin to newly released fish flushing gills, showing over-the-top vitality.

Seeing this, Zhang Yang knew the timing was right; decisively switching hooks to 1.5# sub-line Number 4 New Kantou Hook.

Dipping bait on the lower hook, carrying bomb on the upper hook, fishing officially commenced!

The first cast into water saw the bobber at high position, immediately followed by evident feeding moves.

With a puff, a strong dip of two and a half points occurred; Zhang Yang, wary of tangling lines or snagging fish, held off until the second dip appeared before lifting the rod.

Oh boy, the hefty force transmitted through the fishing rig to the rod, then through the tip to Zhang Yang’s grip.

Even without the fish out of water yet, Zhang Yang knew he had bagged a double tail with that cast!

Sure enough, with skilled maneuver, he utilized the rod’s waist strength and raised the fish up, each hook having one fish, two carp poking heads on the surface, lightly struggling.

In reality, when fishing for stocked carp, hooking a double tail isn’t a good idea; their size might easily slice the sub-line while struggling. However, Zhang Yang’s experience let him handle such situations aptly.

Once the fish surfaced, Zhang Yang raised his arm firmly keeping the rod grip tight, preventing the fish from diving back; this kept the carp’s pectoral fins exposed on the water line where they couldn’t exert power, making it easier to control.

Under Zhang Yang’s skillful control, the two fish gradually dragged to his feet on the surface. Zhang Yang quickly swooped with nets, reached, and swiftly pulled them both in perfectly.

Once in the net, the fish had no escape; Zhang Yang put down his right hand rod, using both hands to lift the net and position it over the fish trap, extracting hooks and placing them in.

With lessons from the first double tail experience, Zhang Yang didn’t remain conservative about seizing chances.

The bobber flipping high would incur bite moves immediately; during the first strong dip, Zhang Yang decisively lifted the rod.

This way, continuously fishing from the high water layer fish groups, controlling and retrieving with ease, rapidly increasing fish trap stock.

For this type of fast fish with lively mouth, rhythm and frequency are vital key points affecting the catch.

The faster the angler retrieves fish, the more casts within the same time, thus increasing bait volume in correspondence.

With higher bait volume, the gathered fish quantity enhances too, like a snowball increasingly accumulating, amplifying the advantage.

Initially, Wenbo beside also caught fish quite swiftly, but after Zhang Yang linked and landed over a dozen, Wenbo’s fish activity in the area gradually slowed down.

If it were someone smart, they’d replenish bait maintaining fish density, continuously attracting fish for more catchable moments, at least maintaining quick catch for a while.

However, Wenbo wasn’t aware of such detail; when the bite slowed, he instinctively reduced pace guarding a few casts.

The outcome was merely catching two more fish before the fishing spot emptied out completely and soon went silent.
