Fifi stared at her, eyes wide with fear, then pain… then something new.
Anger.
Her paws clenched.
Her soft breath quickened. Her ears twitched violently.
Sparks danced across her cheeks and tail.
The ground beneath her feet vibrated as static began to swirl around her body.
"Fiona…"
Her voice cracked.
"You were the first… the only one who protected me."
Tears rolled down her cheeks.

Vernyx turned toward her slowly.
His coils slid along the ground.
He raised one blade arm lazily.
"You?" he said, cold and low.
"You're nothing."
"You're a failure."
"You can't even control yourself."
"What can you possibly do?"
Fifi's entire body flared with electricity.
A violent wave of uncontrolled storm energy blasted out in every direction.
Fiona's broken body was protected by the edge of a rock wall.
But Vernyx stood directly in front of the blast.
And it hit him hard.
BOOM!
Vernyx was thrown back, smashing into a wall, his armor sparking.
Fifi panted, tears still streaming, her face red with rage and sadness.
"I don't care… if I break."
"I just want to stop you."

Thunder cracked the sky.

He stared down at Fifi, who could barely lift her head.
"You did well, rabbit," he said coldly, each word slow like a dagger.
"Too well."
He stepped closer.
Fifi whimpered, trying to stand.
Her small arms trembled, sparks flickering weakly from her paws.
"Now die."
Vernyx raised his tail, blade tipped and glowing.
"Go back to where you belong—scrap, error, failure."
Fifi coughed.
"I just… wanted to help…"
He didn't care.
He struck.
SLAM.
His tail slammed into her side, launching her into a cracked wall.
She cried out—sharp, small, pained.
Her body hit the ground with a heavy thud.
She didn't get up.

"You tried to be something you're not."

His red eye gleamed.

He lifted one blade arm again.
Fifi blinked slowly, too weak to move.
Her voice cracked.
"I… wanted to be brave."
"I just… didn't want to be alone…"
Her hand twitched toward the light—toward Fiona.
She couldn't reach.

She held Scaldrith's limp body, one clawed arm dangling, broken armor sparking.
Liora dropped the hybrid at her feet like trash.

"YOU… you killed him!?"

"Dead?" she repeated, tilting her head slightly.
"No."
She smirked.

"You're confident."
Liora stopped walking.
Then turned her head just enough to smirk.
"I just broke the lizard."
"Now I'm here to crush the snake."
Vernyx hissed, coils tightening, blades twitching at his sides.
"You think you can crush me?"
"I was made to slice gods apart."
He took a step forward, voice colder than steel.
"Come try, hunter."
"I'll show you why no one survives when I coil."
Liora's smirk didn't fade.
"Good."
She raised her hand, Leon's light rising behind her like a blade drawn from the sun.
