Chapter 401: Chapter 399: Taking the Youngest Son on a Mission
Three months later, Nigo Continent.
Sally emerged from the Teleportation Array.
During these three months, she had constantly been teleporting between the various continents, exterminating the Offspring Virus. She had also encountered numerous females who had bound themselves to the Offspring System.
However, they were completely oblivious to the Offspring Virus, and they were either pregnant, giving birth, or looking for males to prepare for pregnancy, contributing their enthusiasm for reproduction to the growth of the Beast Clan.
In contrast, she could no longer be described as being passively neglectful of her duties.
No wonder she was classified as a special host.
She no longer referred to her bound system as the Offspring System, but instead, she falsely claimed it was the Supervision System… and even used “002” to pull the wool over others’ eyes.
As for Xiaomei, she was even better at slacking off than Sally. Apart from dealing with the Offspring Virus, she spent the rest of her time engrossed in building her own game world. Whenever Sally visited a continent, Xiaomei would scan all of the data from that continent and then develop a new game map set against the backdrop of that continent.
When Sally needed strong support, Xiaomei would push Little Fengning to the front under the pretense of training his self-control, shamelessly taking advantage of the situation.
It had to be said, the little guy had been a great help to her.
Little Fengning had now started babbling, learning to speak. He didn’t call her “mother” but “mama,” as the two syllables were easier to pronounce, although his favorite thing to do was still to cry out “ao ao.”
Xiaohao had also been summoned by her a few times to play games with Little Fengning.
Little Fengning turned into the image of a little Black Panther in the game, and the two little brothers played and frolicked together.
Sometimes, when Little Fengning couldn’t control his Talent, he would accidentally kill Xiaohao.
Xiaohao didn’t hold it against him and would find him again after reviving at the resurrection point, and the two would continue playing.
When the other children found out that Xiaohao often went into the game, they clamored to join as well, but since Sally and Xiaomei were busy exterminating the Offspring Virus, they couldn’t spare any time to look after them, and so they hadn’t allowed them over.
“Let’s go,” Sally spoke succinctly.
“Okay,” Xiaomei agreed tacitly.
By now, exterminating viruses had become routine for the two of them. Without a word, Xiaomei directly scanned the continental information and then teleported Sally over to start the killing.
Xiaomei struck with fatal efficiency.
Sally, with Little Fengning tagging along, swept up Phantom Demon Beasts spawned by the virus.
After swiftly completing their mission again, Sally, carrying Little Fengning in a baby carrier, wandered and shopped in the largest city of Nigo Continent—Furong Capital, especially indulging in whatever Little Fengning took a fancy to. If she didn’t buy it, he would release his Talent.
“Mama~ Mama~” Little Fengning clutched a small drum and refused to let go.
“…Son, we could open a shop to sell little drums with how many we’ve bought. Do you fancy anything else?” Sally had bought him countless rattle drums already; he just loved that toy.
“Mama~ Want, want~” Little Fengning happily shook his rattle drum.
Sally had no choice but to resign herself to handing over a Golden Leaf, thinking she would have to ask Welly for living expenses later, as this kid was costing a fortune.
Gold was the unified currency in Beast World, copper coins and silver coins were usable in a few continents, while Crystal Coins and Curse Stones and the like were high-end currencies, usually only needed for taking Teleportation Arrays or buying expensive items.
For ordinary little things, Gold Coins or Golden Leaves were sufficient.
Seeing Sally’s generous spending, the stall owner recommended another assembly-type mechanical toy for Little Fengning, “I can’t break the Golden Leaf you gave me. How about you pick a few more items?”
Sally found the assembly toy appealing, “Alright, use the excess for this one.”
“Got it~” the stall owner successfully made a sale and immediately packed up ten different patterned boxes of the mechanical toys for Sally.
Sally took them, feeling their considerable heft, “Thank you, boss.”
“You’re welcome. Come again when you’re in the mood to play~”
“Will do.”
Sally stashed the mechanical toys in her Storage Space and continued to stroll the streets with Little Fengning.
When they came upon a stall selling various fresh fruits, Sally stopped. Smelling the rich fragrance of fruit, she asked the owner, “What fruit smells so good?”
“What you’re referring to must be the Honey Fragrance Fruit. It ripens once every three years and now is the peak of its maturity. In half a month, you won’t be able to taste it anymore.”
“Then give me a good amount.” Sally eyed the fist-sized golden fruits and took out three Golden Leaves.
The shopkeeper took one look and said, “You want all the Honey Fragrance Fruit?”
“Yes.” Sally picked up one, “May I try one?”
“Of course you can try, dear. Try as many as you like, and only buy if you love them.”
After Sally took a bite… it was sweeter than honey, the rich fragrance of the fruit refreshed her spleen, and she immediately nodded to the shopkeeper, “I’ll take them all.”
“The ones for three Golden Leaves?”
“Hmm.”
“Then I’ll go fetch the fruits for you, we have more at home. You can eat and wait here for a bit.”
“Go ahead.”
Sally gave one to Little Fengning.
The moment he had something to eat, the little fellow immediately cast aside his drum and started gnawing on the fruit. Satisfied, he even kicked his round, plump little legs.
Sally used a handkerchief to wipe his mouth.
The owner of the neighboring stall, an old man selling skins, looked at Sally’s son and chuckled, “This plump little one is a child of wealth and fortune.”
“Thank you, old man.” Sally, pleased to hear that, immediately went over. Seeing that the skins were well-tanned, she selected a few cushions, “Please wrap these up for me.”
“Thank you for your patronage.” The old man looked at Little Fengning’s chubby little feet and picked out a pair of children’s leather shoes, “This pair is for the little one. He can wear them when he learns to walk.”
Sally took the small shoes; although they were roughly made, they were genuine and especially the soles were just the right firmness and softness, “Good.”
She took out two Golden Leaves and handed them to the old man.
The old man hastily said, “One is more than enough.”
“Keep it,” Sally insisted, placing it in the old man’s money jar.
The old man tried to give one Golden Leaf back to Sally.
Sally’s eyes shifted, and she pointed to a small cage beside the old man’s stool, “What’s that?”
“Oh, this is something I found while hunting in the mountains. It seems quite tame, so I thought if someone wanted a pet, I might as well sell it.”
“Then that’s the one, sell it to me.”
“Sure, sure, this little creature is pretty good-looking too. Look at its shiny, pitch-black fur.”
In the cage was a black cub that looked a bit like a small lion, with big blue and gold vertical pupils staring unblinkingly at Sally and Little Fengning.
“What kind of beast is it?” Sally asked the old man.
“It’s quite a strange tale. Some time ago, a never-before-seen wild beast came to the mountains and fought with the Mountain God Python. It was an upheaval that caused the heavens and earth to change color, mountains to crumble, and the ground to split.”
“Uncle, stop exaggerating, this is just a cub of a black mountain cat,” said the Honey Fragrance Fruit seller, pushing a flat cart over, laden with an abundance of golden-hued fruits.
“No matter what kind of cub it is, if I like it, I’ll take it. It could be a companion for my son. Would you part with it, old man?”
“Take it, take it, dear customer, the cage is yours as well.”
“Thank you, old man,” Sally said with a smile as she took the cage.
She then took out a Little Storage Bag from her waist pocket and gathered all the Honey Fragrance Fruit, basket and all, into it. 𝚗ov𝚙𝚞𝚋.c𝚘m
“The basket is a gift from me, shopkeeper,” Sally said with a smile.
Seeing Sally’s Artifact of storage and realizing she was no ordinary customer, the shopkeeper became even more courteous, “It’s all yours. This green-skinned melon is excellent, the flesh inside is pink, both refreshing and sweet. Here, try some, on the house.”
“Thank you, shopkeeper,” Sally unceremoniously accepted, putting it into her Little Storage Bag.
“I wish the shopkeeper a booming business, and may you stay strong and healthy, old man.”
Carrying the cage and Little Fengning on her back, Sally teleported away from Furong Capital, appearing outside the city.
Here was a Phantom Demon Beast that had slipped through the net.
