Chapter 145 - Two-faced lie(9)
The other him suddenly let go of all the pressure and heaviness that had permeated the surrounding air and his back came back to be completely straight upwards, his face looking at Cades as he was using gestures to explain everything and finally stopped moving completely, even blinking once more, something that Cades could not express of how relieved he was about, though, he still had his gaze fixed on him completely, something that reminded Cades of the way he had been looking at Manug back when they had first met and Manug had attacked him, resulting in a relatively short and easy clash.
His eyes however, still fixed on him, like purple lasers that would never let go of their target, were glinting with an obvious hint of madness, one that had most likely resulted from what the being, the other him, had claimed to be him being locked up and thrown into a kind of trash chute within Cades, his, mind, a glint that was quite obviously directed not at him but at himself, at both of them, at the true Cades that had split the two of them up from what he had claimed up to now. n𝚘𝚟𝚙𝚞𝚋.𝚌o𝚖
As he finally began to talk once more Cades felt fearful, still, but he also felt hopeful at the exaggerated movements, hoping that the other him had already found a possible solution while he had been unconscious.
"This place is your conscious, our collective being, and just as we don't show everything to each other, or rather, don't show everything to those around us, including, right now, ourselves, this place hides itself from us, and if my theory which I came up with after you had been unconscious for about a whole hour, is correct, then this is quite literally just the cover, a gigantic wooden plank, or rather a gigantic wooden floor, to cover the 'dirt' that's underneath it, just like in some older houses as far as I know."
The real Cades, the Cades that had just been laying on the wooden floor was now staring at that very same, orange-tainted floor that had even scratched his face, no easy feat seeing as he was of the transcribe-rank, a name that he himself had given to it after presumably being the first to ever reach such heights in the history of ehetria, well, at least in the history he had known off, and in the history of after the gods had arrived and given the magic, tainted by themselves, to ehetria, something that had stopped countless wars, but, according to legends, also weakened every mage, every warrior, every artificer, and simply enough, every living being on ehetria that used magic.
He was fearful, but also expectant, he felt as if he already understood, but he simply didn't dare to actually think of really doing that, at least not by himself, at least not yet, but still, he was almost completely certain that he already knew how to get out of here after the short explanation by his other self, an explanation that he himself would've come up with after some time as well from what he could tell.
His other self had also stopped talking, looking at Cades as if expecting him to think, perhaps even having gone through the same process, and finally, as soon as Cades was done with his thoughts, basically packing it all up and about to tell his other self what he thought of as the way to get out of here, his other self made a weird gesture he had never seen before, standing weirdly with a kind of oozing power coming out of him, and finally, it began to talk again.
"So, just like you must've already thought up, we have to look beneath, prying them all open to finally understand ourselves, and quite honestly, what else are we even able to do in this endless sea of orange wooden heat that can not be escaped up, right, left or in any other of the cardinal directions, north, west, east, south, so, we just have to go down, beneath the wooden floor that I already managed to pierce using your blade" he said as he pulled out the blade as if it was nothing, throwing to towards the real Cades who hastily tried to catch it, cutting his hand slightly in the process, "So, let's just break that which is underneath ourselves!"
His other self screamed the last part, exuding a great power, and before the real Cades could even express that they should at least prepare and think about what could be beneath the planks, trying to pull off one by one at a time to minimize the possible damage to themselves, he felt danger, and sprung back, fearing for his own health as his other self did something that the real Cades didn't even have any idea of how he did it at first.
Suddenly, the floor beneath him started to crack, beginning to fracture around him, however the place he stood on was never-moving, as if it flowed in the air, something understandable as they were practically standing on a gigantic plank and he was practically hammering a hole into it, but still, the cracks were powerful, and so was the wind that was now hitting the other Cades who had been standing about fifteen foot away, in the face, even forcing him to take a step backwards and cover his eyes for a bit.
Finally, he opened them again, with a giant black hole within the endless wooden floor, a eerie feeling emanating from it as he was looking at it and his other self seemingly gone, perhaps having fallen into the seemingly endless abyss of darkness underneath, a new kind of abyss and something he was not too happy about experiencing for the first time even after looking at the endless light-filled abyss for such a long time.
And then, there were hands, two pairs of hands, ehetrian hands, suddenly shot out of the endless darkness, and a voice resounded right in his ear, hir right one.
"They are mine to fight, okay ?"
