Chapter 1217: Chapter 1217: Just Like Roommates_1 Chapter 1217 -1217: Just Like Roommates_1 Peggy Lewis and Lyke Zhekova grew nervous.
Mrs.
Lewis wouldn’t disagree and put down her chopsticks in anger, would she?
“I’ll fetch it for you right away.” To their surprise, Mrs.
Lewis rose from her seat and headed towards the bedroom.
“Mom, there’s no need to rush, you can bring it after we finish eating.” Peggy hurried.
“Since we’re on the topic, I might as well fetch it now.” Mrs.
...
Lewis replied.
Mr.
Lewis chuckled, “Your mother is just impatient, you should know this.
As soon as something needs to be done, she has to do it right away to be at ease.”
After a while, Mrs.
Lewis returned with the Household Register and placed it near Peggy’s bag on the sofa.
“I’ve put it next to your bag.
Don’t forget to pack it up after we finish eating.” She said.
“Ok.”
Lyke thought he would need to talk things through with Mr.
and Mrs.
Lewis, possibly even outsmart them to eventually gain their consent.
Unexpectedly, things went so smoothly that Lyke couldn’t hide his surprise.
It didn’t escape Mrs.
Lewis’ notice.
Smiling, she said, “After all, Peggy said you two would get married in October.
There’s just over a month left, it’s pointless to put off the marriage license.”
“To delay any further would only be a month-long wait, it doesn’t really make a difference,” Mrs.
Lewis explained.
A rare pang of conscience struck Lyke.
He felt he was pushing the couple too hard.
He simply married their daughter.
Without any significant hurdle or test.
Moreover, he did not give them enough time to get to know him.
“Mom, Dad,” Lyke sincerely said, “Rest assured, I will be good to Peggy.
You can leave her to me without worry.”
“I’m not one for swearing oaths or promising.
I’ll just say it as it is,” he continued.
“If ever I do something to hurt Peggy, no matter the reason or circumstance, I will leave everything behind.”
Even if Lyke were to leave everything behind, as long as Zhekova Family’s wealth was there, he wouldn’t be poor.
A camel on the brink of death is still bigger than a horse.
Not to mention Zhekova Family was far from being on the brink of death.
With the foundation of Zhekova Family, he could quickly rise again.
But judging by his attitude alone, Mr.
and Mrs.
Lewis approved.
Mr.
Lewis laughed, “There’s no need for that.
Honestly, we trust Peggy’s judgment.
If she thinks you’re good, she can’t be wrong.”
“Furthermore, you two haven’t even begun your marriage.
After getting the certificate today, only then will you officially be married.
No need for such downcast thoughts,” Mr.
Lewis added, “Look on the bright side, don’t jump to the worst case scenario.”
Seeing that Mr.
and Mrs.
Lewis were genuinely prepared and had thoroughly thought things through, Lyke felt reassured.
“Try the noodles your mother made.” Mr.
Lewis laughed.
“The beef is marinated by your mother herself, and the soup is her special recipe.
I’ve been enjoying it for decades, and I’d say it tastes better than any restaurant’s.
No one can top it.
The beef noodle soup made with this soup base is simply unparalleled.”
“Ok.” Lyke indeed hadn’t had the chance to eat.
The aroma of the marinated beef mixing with the noodles wafting from the bowl, it was indeed a tantalizing scent.
Normally, he didn’t quite feel hungry in the morning, and he could do without breakfast just for the sake of his health.
But smelling the aroma of the beef noodles, he surprisingly felt hungry.
His stomach was growling.
Lyke began by drinking a bowl of soup.
The soup carried a savory taste of marinated beef.
The soup base used for the beef absorbed the flavors of the seasoning, while the soup itself absorbed the rich aroma of the beef.
Together, the soup had a concentrated and full-bodied taste.
Mrs.
Lewis had added a bit of chili oil into the noodles.
“I added a dash of chili oil to the soup—not much.
Can you handle it?” Mrs.
Lewis asked.
“Just right,” Lyke replied.
“Don’t be polite with me, tell me the truth.” Mrs.
Lewis wasn’t convinced. 𝑛𝘰𝘷𝑝𝘶𝑏.𝑐𝘰𝘮
“No, it’s genuinely just right,” Lyke said.
“Peggy told me your stomach isn’t in the best condition.
Eating spicy food in the morning can irritate the stomach, but this bowl of beef noodles wouldn’t taste as good without a bit of spice.
So, I added just a little.” Mrs.
Lewis explained.
“Actually, it’s not that I can’t eat any spicy food at all.
We often have porridge over the weekends, and the cucumber strips that Peggy pickles are spicy, but I have no issues eating them.” Lyke said, “I do love spicy food; Peggy and I often go for Chongqing hot pot.
As long as I maintain a healthy stomach in general, I don’t really need to avoid any food.”
Listening to him, Peggy felt something was off and swiftly kicked Lyke’s toes under the table in secret.
But it was a step too late.
Mr.
Lewis found it odd, “Huh?
You two have breakfast together over the weekend?”
Mr.
Lewis hesitated, “Do you two live together?”
Though Mrs.
Lewis had guessed as much before, she didn’t tell Mr.
Lewis.
She was afraid if she did, Mr.
Lewis would worry even more and ask Peggy about it.
If asked too much, Peggy wouldn’t be pleased.
It was good timing today that Peggy and Lyke were getting their marriage license; the previous cohabitation didn’t matter anymore.
To her surprise, out of nowhere, Lyke slipped up.
Peggy: “…”
“We…” Peggy decided to admit the truth, “I was in and out of competition with a male colleague at work for a managerial position.
Although I got the job in the end, he was bitter about losing and thought it was because of my sabotage.
He even found my house at night.”
“I was terrified then but thankfully, Lyke chased him away.
Because he was worried about my safety being alone, in case that male colleague came back to harm me,” she said.
“You have no idea; the guy was acting like a lunatic, absolutely irrational.
It felt like he could do anything.”
“So, Lyke temporarily had me stay at his house,” Peggy continued.
“Lyke is a complete gentleman and arranged a guest room for me.
We didn’t do anything inappropriate, honestly.
Been nothing more than roommates, even after we started dating nothing happened, honestly.”
Discussing such matters with her parents, Peggy felt extremely awkward.
“Just like roommates in a shared accommodation,” she clarified.
Mr.
and Mrs.
Lewis were startled.
They were too caught up worrying about Peggy’s safety to consider why Lyke was conveniently there to rescue Peggy when the male colleague was causing trouble.
Why was Lyke there?
Currently, all they could think about was Peggy’s safety.
“How could you hide such an important matter from us?” Mr.
Lewis was concerned.
“Look, it’s because I knew you would worry too much, like you are now, that’s why I didn’t tell you,” Peggy explained.
