Chapter 996: Chapter 996: Future CEO’s Wife_1 Chapter 996: Chapter 996: Future CEO’s Wife_1 Lyke Zhekova then nodded and said, “What you said makes sense.”
“CEO, why did you call me?” Wallace Martin quickly changed the topic.
They mustn’t continue discussing Peggy Lewis.
Who knows what Lyke Zhekova might read into things otherwise.
Lyke Zhekova said, “I want you to send someone to …”
Lyke Zhekova glanced at his slippers, saying, “Goto the Gucci Store and buy a pair of women’s slippers.
The shoe size !”
Lyke Zhekova turned to Peggy Lewis and asked, “What shoe size do you wear?”
Peggy Lewis shook her head like a tambourine and chirped, “You don’t have to buy anything so expensive!”
These were just home slippers, should they cost thousands?
Any pair off Amazon or the supermarket that costs ten-or-so yuan would do fine!
Plus, it’s not like she was staying the night.
...
Lyke Zhekova didn’t even wait for Peggy Lewis to finish her answer.
He strode to the entrance hall.
Peggy Lewis’s shoes were right there.
Lyke Zhekova picked them up and found the shoe size.
Lyke Zhekova told Wallace Martin, “Buy a 37.
Gucci sizes usually run large.”
Peggy Lewis hadn’t expected that Lyke Zhekova would know even this much.
“Have them delivered here once you buy them.” Lyke Zhekova ordered.
“Alright.” Wallace Martin said, “I’ll handle this personally.”
Lyke Zhekova was quite pleased with Wallace Martin’s serious attitude.
He ended the call.
Peggy Lewis forced a laugh, “Surely you don’t need to spend that much on slippers?”
“They’ll be at my house, it’s no big deal,” Lyke Zhekova replied nonchalantly.
Peggy Lewis thought about it and this seemed fair.
Since they were being paid for by Lyke Zhekova to be kept at his place.
It wasn’t as if they were specifically for her to wear.
Anyone who visited could wear them.
She was being overly sensitive.
These shoes weren’t being given to her.
Peggy Lewis felt relieved having come to this realization.
The weight lifted off her shoulders.
But then, she thought about other women coming and using those same shoes.
For some reason, the thought made her feel uncomfortable.
She rubbed her chest, feeling as if there were a lump in her throat.
Her mood visibly dropped.
Lyke Zhekova was puzzled, not understanding why Peggy Lewis suddenly seemed less cheerful, even a little down.
“Wallace Martin will bring the shoes over soon. 𝓷ℴ𝓿𝓹𝓾𝒷.𝓬𝓸𝓂
In the meantime, why don’t you make do with your own?” He suggested.
“I really don’t mind being barefoot.
It’s hot anyway, the floor feels just right.
Otherwise,I can just sit here without moving,” Peggy Lewis said.
Lyke Zhekova furrowed his brow lightly, annoyed at himself for not having been more thoughtful.
He should’ve already had everything prepared for Peggy Lewis at his home.
Even if she wasn’t planning on coming over, couldn’t he have made the preparations anyway?
After all, sooner or later, Peggy Lewis would come over.
Recognizing his own mistake, Lyke Zhekova said, “Okay, make yourself at home.
Do as you please.”
A clichéd response to a guest.
Although when uttered from Lyke Zhekova’s lips, the sentiment felt very different.
No matter what, Peggy Lewis couldn’t bring herself to treat this place like her own home.
All she could do was respond half-heartedly.
But she didn’t really feel comfortable walking around barefoot either, so she just sat obediently on the sofa.
Lyke Zhekova then asked, “What would you like to drink?
I have mineral water, green tea, black tea, Pu-erh, Oolong tea, and coffee in the house.”
He didn’t have any juice because he didn’t have a sweet tooth.
“Mineral water is fine.” Everything else needed to be brewed and that was too much of a hassle.
Lyke Zhekova brought two bottles of mineral water over.
He opened one of them and handed it to Peggy Lewis.
“What do you usually like to drink?” Lyke Zhekova asked.
“Just water is fine.” Peggy Lewis replied.
She was afraid that if she said something else, Lyke Zhekova would rush off to buy it for her.
Peggy Lewis genuinely didn’t want to trouble him.
“We’re not friends?” Lyke Zhekova asked.
“Huh?” Peggy Lewis didn’t understand what Lyke Zhekova was getting at.
Why did he bring that up?
“If we’re friends, why are you being so polite with me?” Lyke Zhekova quirked a brow, “You’re being overly polite.”
“Won’t you even tell me what you like to drink?
Are you afraid of troubling me?” Lyke Zhekova asked.
Peggy Lewis didn’t answer.
“If you’re worried about being a bother, then we aren’t real friends,” Lyke Zhekova said.
Peggy Lewis remained silent.
“Do you really only enjoy drinking water?” Lyke Zhekova asked again.
Obviously, he wasn’t buying her answer.
Evasive, Peggy Lewis said, “I…like sweet drinks.”
“Anything sweet, doesn’t matter what it is.” Peggy Lewis finally admitted.
Lyke Zhekova laughed, “You’re like a child.”
“…” Peggy Lewis waved her hands defensively, “Not like a child, I don’t have that big a sweet tooth.”
Lyke Zhekova raised an eyebrow as Peggy Lewis added, “I like lightly sweetened drinks, like a mildly sweet green tea or a light peach-flavored water.
I’m not a big fan of overly sweet fruit juices or anything like that.”
Lyke Zhekova laughed again, opened a takeout app, and asked Peggy Lewis, “So, what do you usually drink?”
Peggy answered a tad hesitantly, which didn’t escape Lyke Zhekova’s notice, “Answer honestly.”
Peggy Lewis: “!”
“I usually drink a lot of white peach water and there’s also one type of white peach powder that you can brew.
It tastes sweet and smells great, leaving an aroma of peaches throughout the room.” Showing her Amazon order history to Lyke Zhekova, Peggy Lewis explained,
“I usually buy in large quantities.
If I notice my stock running short, I’ll buy more to store for later.”
Lyke Zhekova viewed her order and then opened the takeout app to search.
The nearby convenience store didn’t carry any.
But a little farther away, a supermarket that sells imported goods had what she was looking for.
Lyke Zhekova placed an order for the items to be delivered.
While looking at a few other products, Lyke Zhekova asked Peggy, “Do you like peach oolong tea?
I’ve noticed you seem to like peach flavored things.”
“I do,” Peggy replied promptly and honestly.
“Alright,” Lyke Zhekova nodded, and added that to the list as well.
He also grabbed some snacks that he thought a girl might like.
He bought a variety of them assuming that there had to be something Peggy would like.
Meanwhile, Wallace Martin and Henry Hertz crossed paths downstairs from Lyke Zhekova’s apartment.
The two remained speechless for a bit.
Wallace Martin asked, “What brings you here?”
They knew each other.
Henry replied, “Apparently a friend of Mr.
Zhekova’s got a bit hurt.
Our CEO sent me to drop off some medication.”
“What about you?” He asked.
“Our Future CEO’s Wife is upstairs at our CEO’s place, but he doesn’t have any women’s slippers prepared.
He asked me to go buy a pair and deliver them,” Wallace answered.
Henry Hertz latched onto the phrase, “Future CEO’s Wife”.
