Chapter 137: 137, Continue, The Boss’s Authority
Almost unconsciously, her mind drifted to its owner, lazily leaning back and reading a newspaper. It gave Song Qinghuan a start.
She shook her head in an attempt to dismiss her irrational thoughts, only to startle herself again.
The phone started vibrating again as a “buzz buzz buzz” sound filled the air.
“Who could it be now?” Song Qinghuan muttered to herself in annoyance as her eyebrows creased, but she still reached for her phone.
The call was from Zhao Jingnan. Didn’t she just call him to confirm he had received the email? What else could he possibly want now?
Since it was her immediate superior’s call, Song Qinghuan had no choice but to answer.
Before she could utter a word, Zhao Jingnan’s voice came from the other end, “Are you still at the office?”
“Still here,” she replied honestly.
Zhao Jingnan hummed in response, then continued, “I left a signed document on my office desk. Take it and deliver it to the office on the top floor.”
“What?” The top floor office? Isn’t that Shi Yuhuan’s office? Visiting him at this hour made Song Qinghuan panic and her voice noticeably change.
Zhao Jingnan’s eyebrows knitted together, and he snapped coldly, “What do you mean ‘what’? Do you want to keep your job or not? Hurry up!”
With that, he hung up the phone abruptly without waiting for Song Qinghuan’s response
A sour atmosphere permeated the air, leaving Song Qinghuan feeling frustrated to the point of rage.
“Huanhuan,” Zhan Cheng furrowed his brows and tentatively called out her name, “Was that your boss again? What happened now?”
Song Qinghuan pouted, “I have some errands to run, I need to go back to the office.”
“Damn it!” Zhan Cheng growled angrily, although his statement was caring, “You should hurry up and come back then, I’ll wait here for you.”
Song Qinghuan nodded, “Please wait a bit longer, I’ll be as quick as I can.”
This time when she passed by the security post, the security officer didn’t dial an internal line but quietly, attentively watched every corner of the company through the CCTV camera.
Five minutes later, the elevator doors opened automatically as Song Qinghuan arrived at the top floor. She stepped out slowly, holding the document that Zhao Jingnan had mentioned.
The expansive top floor was empty at this moment, exuding a gloomy ambiance under the dim yellow light. With every step Song Qinghuan took, it felt like she was carrying a tremendous weight.
It was this very place where Shi Yuhuan had trampled all over her dignity at noon, leaving her too embarrassed to gather her pride.
When she loved someone, she loved everything about them, but when she hated someone, she hated everything about them. This place and its owner both disgusted her the same way. She had hoped to avoid this place for the rest of her life, but who would’ve thought that within a few hours, she’d be back here.
The short distance surprisingly took her five minutes to cross. If she hadn’t been mindful of Zhan Cheng waiting for her downstairs, she would probably have taken even longer.
