Zhan Jie’s lips tightened, her gaze suddenly turned strange: “I don’t know what’s between you two, but I know he really likes you. He’s been drinking every day, like he’s half-alive. If I hadn’t accidentally heard him say, ‘Huanhuan will ignore me forever’, I wouldn’t have known it concerns you too. Did you two have a fight?”
Hearing this, Song Qinghuan furrowed her eyebrows and explained: “We didn’t have a fight. I just clarified things with him that there’s no possibility between us.”
Zhan Jie examined Song Qinghuan with an exploring gaze, as if studying something, then sneered: “I just found out today how much of a hypocrite you are. If you really don’t like him, why didn’t you clarify it earlier? Instead, you’ve been leading him on ambiguously, leaving him in this half alive state. You rejected him because you found someone better, right?”
Song Qinghuan’s body went rigid, biting her lip, “Miss Zhan, I think you might have misunderstood. When I first met your brother in university, I rejected him countless times and told him there was no way between us, but he just wouldn’t give up.”
“So what you mean is, my brother is making a fool of himself, right?” Zhan Jie huffed coldly.
Song Qinghuan didn’t make a sound, but she agreed with it in her heart.
What else could be said about persistently chasing after someone who doesn’t love you?
She, Song Qinghuan, had also acted foolishly, knowing full well that Shi Yuhuan didn’t care for her. Yet, she still couldn’t help her feelings for him. Despite feeling angry when being forced, she never lost hope and felt that Shi Yuhuan might treat her differently.
But the result was indeed different, as she heard him say with his own lips, “I don’t love you”.
She didn’t want to act like a fool anymore, she didn’t want to become like Zhan Cheng, disgusting to Shi Yuhuan.
Therefore, she chose to walk away with pride.
Perhaps she wasn’t a good girl, the simple her might still have a lot of bad habits, but she had her own bottom line, her own dignity.
She really wished Zhan Cheng could do the same, walk away with pride.
Zhan Jie looked at the silent Song Qinghuan, a trace of disgust passing through her eyes, but she hid it well.
With a sigh, she said softly: “Even so, there’s something I still have to tell you. Zhan Cheng drank until his stomach bled and was admitted to the hospital.”
Song Qinghuan widened her eyes, staring at her, “Stomach bleeding? Is he alright?”
Zhan Jie gave a cold laugh, with a mocking tone: “You still care about him, huh?”
Song Qinghuan contemplated and said: “Although there’s no fate between us, Zhan Cheng has always been good to me. I’ve always considered him a friend and hoped that he can live well. I hope that you can persuade him after this; he and I are impossible. Have him find a girl to love and marry after he’s discharged.”
Zhan Jie gave a wry smile: “I’m afraid that’s unlikely. The doctor said although his stomach bleed was controlled, his liver was entirely destroyed by alcohol, already in the late stage. Unless he gets a liver transplant, otherwise… he probably only has two or three months to live.”
Covering her mouth, it took Song Qinghuan a long time to regain her composure: “What did you say? His liver is damaged, only two to three months left?” 𝖓𝔬𝖛𝔭𝔲𝖇.𝔠𝔬𝖒
Zhan Jie mocked: “Yes, congratulations, you got what you wanted. Zhan Cheng won’t bother you anymore.”
