Chapter 975 -978: Birthday Party (6)
Emma Shaw led the way with a full-faced smile.
Lily looked at her retreating figure, shaking her head to herself.
Emma’s attempts at insinuation were all too obvious.
Anyone would recognize her deliberate attempts to sow discord at first listen.
Yet even knowing Emma was trying to instigate trouble, hearing her words still left a sour taste in Lily’s heart.
She couldn’t help but lower her head and ask Ben, “Did you feel wronged just now, inside?”
“No…” the little boy shook his head, “Aunt Lily, it was so boring inside that Ben just went to wait by the door for you all. I don’t care at all about what they were saying.”
Charles Taylor, that kid, liked to jab at me every time we met, with or without reason.
Ben Lucas never took his cousin, who was younger than him, seriously at all.
To Ben, whether it was provocation or mischief, it all seemed utterly trivial.
“Hmm, Ben’s indifference to those people’s words shows his magnanimity and understanding. But that doesn’t mean others can speak ill of Ben at will. If something like what happened in the banquet hall the other time occurs again, and Aunt Lily is not there to know about it, you must tell Aunt Lily. Rest assured, Aunt Lily will stand up for you,” she said.
Lily ruffled Ben’s hair, and her eyes conveyed a deep affection.
Her Ben had suffered ridicule from others due to her own negligence.
If she had been by his side since he was little, none of those people would dare bully her Ben.
Ben, whose head was being stroked by his favorite ‘Aunt Lily,’ displayed a touched expression on his usually reserved face.
Annoyingly, his nose felt a bit sore—he didn’t want to cry in such a setting!
But what could he do? The feeling of having a mother’s protection was so wonderful.
Ben couldn’t bear to let go of Lily’s hand and grabbed the hand that was on his head, holding it tightly in his own.
He affectionately rubbed his small face against the back of Lily’s hand, cooing, “Aunt Lily, Ben likes you the most. After we see Grandma, please hurry up and marry Dad so you can be Ben’s mom.” 𝓃𝓸𝓋𝓹𝓾𝓫.𝒸ℴ𝓶
Truth be told, he would prefer to marry his mother.
But the old man would surely never agree.
Thus, he could only settle for second best, asking her to marry the old man and then become his mom.
The little lad looked at Lily with a longing gaze.
Looking into Lily’s eyes, shining black with hints of gentle hope and supplication.
Lily, who was already filled with deep guilt toward Ben Lucas, found herself unable to refuse when she saw his yearning eyes.
She nodded slightly, reassuring Ben, “Don’t worry, Aunt Lily will always be with you. Whether or not I marry your dad, Aunt Lily will take care of you like a mom.”
“It’s not the same, being like a mom and being a mom are two different things! Ben wants Aunt Lily to be his mom…” the little lad clutched her hand tightly as if afraid she might run away.
Lily was about to tell Ben that not everything was up to her when the man’s hand at her waist suddenly gave a firm squeeze.
“No refusals. The kid is right; we’ll get married after meeting the parents today,” he said.
Jordan Lancaster’s words were a rare pleasant sound to him for once.
“But…”
“No buts,” the man cut her off coldly.
“They say a woman agrees to marry peacefully only after meeting the parents. Why do you think I would waste my time bringing you to a place like this if not to reassure you?” he stated.
