The sky outside the window was hazy, and gusts of wind whistled through the Protoss Royal Magic Academy from time to time. Each breeze brought falling leaves.
At first, a single raindrop lightly hit the edge of the windowsill.
Soon, the raindrops became dense like thin strings, falling down relentlessly.
In this thin veil of rain, the canaries on the branches began to sing softly.
"..."
Sitting by the window, Lanci seemed to wake from a dream, his deep green eyes still sparkling clear.
He lifted his finger, lightly touching the window glass beaded with dew.
The cold, damp weather could make one feel such a chill that it induced a fatiguing numbness.
Accompanied by the pitter-patter of rain against the window, the bird on the branch outside chirped, as if trying to tell someone something.
The office in the Protoss Royal Magic Academy, originally vacant and now belonging to him, was decorated with wood, giving it a deep, time-honored feel. Every detail felt like a carefully carved work of art.
Occasionally, rays of sunlight filtered through the dark clouds outside streaming in, casting a mellow glow on Lanci, making him appear slightly warm.
His swivel chair was situated with its back to his desk, facing the window, as if he were enjoying a leisurely afternoon.
"I’m sorry, little bird."
"Though you sing beautifully, I won’t turn around for you."
Lanci muttered to himself.
The Great Love Poet always said he was a good judge for the Kingdom’s best livestock.
But in reality, he couldn’t be a mentor for small animals.
That being said.
It seemed that Hyperion hadn’t summoned the Great Love Poet recently, as he could hardly feel his mana being consumed.
But Hyperion’s caution would stop her from summoning the Great Love Poet carelessly in front of others.
Typically, a Call Card cannot be loaned to others because no one except the owner could summon the card. However, the Great Love Poet could summon herself, allowing her to be "loaned" in this special way.
Even though the Great Love Poet sometimes didn’t listen to him, she seemed to obey Hyperion, or perhaps she becomes more mature when with Hyperion?
It was hard to understand.
Everybody knew she was nothing more than a little female devil attempting to act dignified. As ridiculous as an old woman trying to play the part of a young girl, just in a different direction.
Following this, Lanci returned to his desk and began to review the paperwork.
He had basically completed all the tasks that the teachers required his help with, sparing only a few scattered affairs.
He would temporarily leave the school the following day and the next time he returned was likely two weeks to a month later.
A productive school should be able to operate smoothly even without a principal for a while.
Just like most students who hardly see the principal a few times during their years of schooling.
Lanci immersed himself in the documents, his attention and thoughts devoted to each line of text.
Not long after, a clear, steady knock on the door suddenly broke the quiet of the afternoon, echoing in the quaint office space.
Lanci slowly lifted his head, looking towards the door and spoke with a steady voice, "Come in."
As the old brass handle on the door turned, the solid wooden door trembled slightly and was pushed open. A handsome figure with eyes that looked somewhat sleepy walked in.
"Teacher Rocky McCarthy, no, I should call you Principal now."
Said Associate Professor Xido, somewhat resigned.
Although strictly speaking, Lanci’s position in the Protoss Royal Magic Academy has shifted from being an assistant history teacher to a "senior advisor," the school had yet to create the position of a principal.
Typically, a principal commands teachers with status and authority. Now the teachers willingly accepted Lanci’s instructions, bowing to his work capacity and reform plans.
The work that Lanci had undertaken was no different from a real principal.
"Professor Xido, you’re here."
Lanci said with a smile,
"If you need help managing classroom discipline, I can assist at any time."
As a history associate professor who initially partnered with Lanci, Xido was one of the most familiar teachers with Lanci in the academy.
They had agreed to meet on a Friday afternoon.
"The students have completely turned over a new leaf now, and in anonymous surveys, you receive a 100% approval rating."
Said Xido, admiringly.
After he finished speaking, he moved aside, continuing to say, "But today, I mainly wanted to introduce someone to you."
Following Xido into the office was another figure, a woman.
She was dressed in a tailored noble hunting suit, her finely braided hair draped over her shoulder, her androgynous outfit added a dash of liveliness to her somewhat cold face. Compared to attracting men, her temperament was more likely to attract young girls.
"Good afternoon, Mr. Rocky McCarthy."
Duchess Cloris, who entered the office, didn’t carry the aloof demeanor typically seen in other noble students. Instead, she greeted Lanci with an elegant bow.
"Miss Cloris? Please, have a seat."
Lanci pointed to the visitor’s chair on the other side of his desk, speaking in a warm tone.
He had probably heard of the most outstanding student in their school.
She was the daughter of Duke Morotian, the holder of [Original Slabstone - Undead].
What left the deepest impression of her on Lanci was her adherence to school rules.
She was one of the few true "good" students in the school that Lanci acknowledged.
Associate Professor Xido sat down on a sofa to the side of the office, immediately closing his eyes and folding his arms, looking somewhat downcast.
He didn’t plan to talk much during the conversation today; he intended to let Duchess Cloris do most of the talking with Lanci.
"Mr. Rocky McCarthy, I’ve heard Associate Professor Xido say that you don’t believe that the Demon King’s Special Slaughter Troops in the North are real."
After the Duchess Cloris sat down, she directly posed her question to Lanci.
Her deep red eyes shone as she stared straight at Lanci.
"Indeed."
Admitted Lanci.
This was also the origin of the initial controversy in history class, as well as the opportunity for him to be referred to the Protoss Royal Magic Academy by Xido.
"Could I trouble you to explain your reasoning in detail? I’d like to hear the specific reasons."
Unlike Xido, Cloris was very interested in the reasons for Lanci’s conclusion,
"Actually, many people harbor the same doubts as Associate Professor Xido and I. It’s like a missing piece of the puzzle, and once proven, many things may turn on their head. It’s just that we have no evidence, and nobody believes in any race with the camouflage magic to sneak past the Protoss Empire."
Despite only conjectures at the moment,
However, the certainty in Rocky McCarthy’s attitude was more firm than anyone else’s.
He seemed to take it for granted that those who were causing the panic were not the Demon Race.
