Lanci’s steps were as light as a drifting breeze, his figure indistinct in the dim hallway light, making him seem like a messenger emerging from the deep darkness of the corridor.
Unlike the majority of demon students, Lanci’s demon features were all white, giving an impression of elegance and harmlessness, like a medical or support class demon.
However, in the eyes of the fortunate Demon Student Bachel who was caught by Lanci and Hyperion, this white glow from the purgatory only brought about endless peculiarities and upheaval.
Because Bachel, as the victim, knew full well what crazy, wicked things this white demon had done in the examination field!
"Why did you run?"
Lanci stood beside the demon student Bachel, his friendly voice sounded like a light breeze gently skimming the lake surface, yet it carried a certain austere seriousness that couldn’t be swayed.
You have the nerve to ask me?
The moment Bachel heard Lanci’s question, his eyes lit up with sparks of uncontrollable fury and his teeth made a faint creaking sound from clenching too hard!
If it weren’t for this damned thing, he could have spent two peaceful hours taking an exam and earned at least one Credit Coin!
But now, he had to face the threat of death at any moment in this dangerous corridor.
However, the anger that was just about to surge in Bachel’s heart was brutally extinguished by fear and the fear of death.
If he wanted to survive, even if he was only a second-order demon, he must not provoke these two beings in front of him.
This clarity and survival instinct were exactly why he had survived up until now and even managed to escape from under the watchful eyes of two Demon Invigilators.
"You will be immediately annihilated if the Disciplinary Director catches you in the corridor during class time without a Credit Coin!"
Bachel, having no time to explain much, panicked and looked down the corridor in both directions as he spoke to Lanci, seeming to plead with him to let him go and find a classroom.
Lanci looked at the panicked Bachel, while he barely understood the answer, he started to get an idea of why other demon students would rather run into a life-threatening classroom than hang around in the hallway.
"Do you want this?"
Lanci took out several coins made of black gold from his pocket, and waved them in front of Bachel.
The coins in his hand were about half an inch in diameter, finely crafted and heavy, with a considerable heft to them.
The deep black color reflected a fiery red glow in the dim hallway light, like the lava in purgatory. Around the Demon Academy emblem imprinted in the center of the coin, there was a tightly packed circle of runes written in demon magic text, making it impossible to replicate.
Lanci thought this should be the Credit Coin Bachel was referring to. However, it seemed inappropriate to directly ask him, "Is it?", so he tried a different way of asking.
"?!"
Bachel looked at Lanci in disbelief, not understanding why Lanci would have so many Credit Coins!
But in the end, he vigorously nodded his head.
By Bachel’s reaction, Lanci understood.
These coins were what Lanci and Hyperion had looted from the bodies of dead demon students when they left the demon examination field, most of them were the result of Hyperion, in the guise of a thief, efficiently stealing after she had used invisibility as an assassin.
"I’ll give you a Credit Coin if you explain everything you know about school information to me. What do you think?" 𝓃𝓸𝓋𝓹𝓾𝓫.𝒸ℴ𝓶
Lanci first threw a credit coin to Hyperion to ensure her safety, then held up another one, looking at Bachel through the brilliance it reflected and asked.
"Yes, yes, of course!"
Bachel hurriedly nodded his head, accepting the deal.
Deals between demons were usually quite reliable, and this guy called Bachel had a bit of an aristocratic aura to him. He seemed like the offspring of a nobleman from the demon world of this age. For demons, every deal had the significance of upholding their family’s honor.
"Start talking then, but to save time, start with the most important rules first, skip the parts I tell you to.
Lanci tossed the credit coin promised to Bachel with his thumb, and said.
To keep Bachel from realizing that he knew nothing about the school’s rules, Lanci chose to let Bachel take the initiative to confess.
"Okay."
Bachel stared at the Credit Coin, worried that the Disciplinary Director would come at any time, he hurriedly began to speak,
"You can earn Credit Coins by successfully completing classroom courses, and you need to consume a significant amount of Credit Coins to survive in this school at other times."
"The classrooms have various types of modes of teaching and examination field-like modes, and they are places where you need to risk your life to learn. As for functional areas, such as libraries, dining halls, medical rooms, etc. Generally, they are not very dangerous but require Credit Coins."
"There are only 12 hours of school operation time at night, with 5 two-hour classes and four 30-minute breaks. The Classroom Corridor only connects to the Functional Area Corridor during these 30-minute breaks. You need to pay the school at least 5 Credit Coins at 6 a.m. every day and get 5 graduation points. Accumulate 4800 graduation points to graduate successfully from Purgatory Corridor Academy and get the Demon World Diploma...."
Lanci listened to Bachel’s words and nodded frequently.
He now roughly understood the basic rules of the school’s operation.
Although Purgatory Corridor Academy seemed to be all indoor, it was actually composed of numerous interwoven corridors. It would change at a fixed time, making it hard even for old students to quickly find the place they wanted to go.
The doorplates of the classrooms where one could obtain Credit Coins had different numbers of markings to indicate the current classroom’s difficulty. The lowest was 1 and the highest was 3. The difficulty also determines the minimum number of credit coins one can get after passing.
For example, the previous demon examination field had a difficulty of 1, so upon completion, you were guaranteed at least 1 Credit Coin and could possibly get other additional rewards if your performance was outstanding.
"For instance, although 50 marks were the passing grade in the Demon Examination Field, whoever could achieve an incredible score of 90 would receive additional rewards."
Bachel continued speaking hastily.
As for the extremely exaggerated score of 100, Bachel couldn’t even imagine what kind of hidden rewards this might trigger as no student had ever achieved it.
Someone like Lanci who directly dismantled the examination field wouldn’t be able to obtain Credit Coins from the Demon Teacher even if he passed.
But on second thought, Bachel suddenly understood where Lanci’s ill-gotten wealth came from!
The rookie behavior of blowing up the exam field yielded much more than honestly taking the exam!
"What do you think of difficulty 2 and difficulty 3 classrooms?"
For the first time, Lanci actively interrupted Bachel’s words and asked.
He mentally calculated, if he chose all five classes with a difficulty level of 1, excluding extra rewards, he would be able to earn 5 credit coins at most.
After handing over the mandatory 5 coins, you would have to start from scratch again the next day, striving to finish five full classes.
It seemed that Bachel was the type of student that barely broke even, much like a tireless laborer.
Only the brave and talented who dared to select difficulty level 2 classrooms more often could reliably earn more than 5 Credit Coins a day. They could make a surplus, don’t have to attend all five classes, and even enjoy some services in the functional area.
