The setting sun cast a hazy halo on her fair cheeks through the window lattice.
"Welcome, thank you for coming from afar. Thank you for taking on the heavy responsibility of educating the young."
The woman slowly rose to her feet, smiling at the young man who entered,
"From now on, Saint Kray Temple will be your workplace."
Her every move was elegant and composed, surpassing any trained noblewoman, coupled with an innate air of authority and dominance.
Lanci realized Secretary Nyla had not come in but was waiting outside, and now the door to the Principal’s Office was closed.
Compared to Lanci, Talia was even more nervous at this moment.
Initially, she had not expected to meet such a high-ranking and influential figure of the Cerryti Empire so soon after arriving.
The person sitting before her not only held a noble identity but also possessed strength at the pinnacle of the Empire, a standout even among Eighth-order Strongmen, akin to a General Level in their Demon World.
Moreover, this woman, who appeared to be in her thirties, was exceptionally beautiful, with long, deep indigo hair flowing down like a waterfall. Her hair shimmered with a profound hue under the light, and she had a tall, graceful figure, clad in a form-fitting dark gown.
"I am Landry Washington, it is a pleasure to meet you, Headmaster Violet,"
Lanci greeted her with a slight bow.
"Mr. Landry, truly a young talent. I was thinking that if you got into trouble, I might need to contact the military on your behalf, but it seems you’ve resolved it yourself,"
Headmaster Violet’s face bloomed with a radiant smile, responding to Lanci’s greeting.
Her face was almost like a piece of art carved by the creator, her purple pupils clear yet harboring a hidden storm, akin to the eyes of a predator.
"Thanks to Secretary Nyla’s help,"
Lanci replied humbly, not avoiding Headmaster Violet’s gaze.
"Heh, Red Falcon Nicola is not someone who can be dealt with by Nyla alone, but the Empire’s Special Operations Department wouldn’t want to see what happens if they don’t give me face,"
Headmaster Violet chuckled as if she was prepared to trouble the military if needed.
"It would not come to that, there’s no need to trouble yourself on my behalf,"
Lanci felt the Principal was more assertive than he had imagined, her amiable face masking a domineering character.
Headmaster Violet focused on Lanci again, her thoughts drifting back from the military to Lanci, and then she revealed a serene smile.
"From what I heard from your sister, I thought you’d be more straightforward, but I’m pleasantly surprised to find you’re also skilled in diplomacy,"
She observed the young man with black hair and blue eyes in her office.
Upon hearing this,
"After all, people change,"
Lanci started sweating from his back.
Although on the surface he maintained his composure, inside he was full of question marks.
Since when did Landry have a sister?
And it seemed she was studying at Saint Kray Temple.
Initially, Landry had said on the train that his parents had died and he had no acquaintances in Brilda.
Could it be that Landry himself had a poor relationship with this sister? Or even refused to acknowledge her existence?
"She’s telling the truth,"
Talia reminded Lanci internally.
Last time, Nicola’s words were all interrogative, not statements, so she couldn’t judge their truthfulness, but Headmaster Violet’s were affirmative statements that fit the definition of a proposition.
This reassured Lanci.
He felt that Headmaster Violet mentioning this implied some suspicion of him.
But not a significant one, nor would she take action like Nicola for a moment’s test.
"But it has been several years since you and your sister have seen each other, right? It’s understandable to grow a bit estranged,"
Seeing Lanci’s expression, Headmaster Violet added, her smile showing understanding.
"It has indeed been a long time,"
Lanci sighed, secretly relieving a breath inside. 𝘯𝑜𝑣𝑝𝑢𝘣.𝑐𝑜𝑚
Having Talia’s help, able to discern the truth in Headmaster Violet’s words, he naturally responded accordingly.
But this Landry, it seemed, hid much - Lanci felt he must investigate this man’s past thoroughly after returning today.
Earlier on the train, when he swiftly disguised himself as Landry, he had only checked his luggage briefly and confirmed his information, without sufficient time to delve deeper.
"Don’t worry, even if she really tests you on your sister’s name, I will do my utmost to read her thoughts, and the answer will certainly be there,"
Talia added quietly to Lanci.
"..."
For the first time, Lanci felt that Talia was truly useful.
Talia: "..."
Nevermind, she wouldn’t bicker with him now. She would have a proper voice exchange with him later in the evening.
In Headmaster Violet’s office of the Main Hall, Lanci was still chatting with Violet.
Fortunately, Lanci had not shown any slip-ups, and Headmaster Violet’s suspicions didn’t seem to target him specifically, but were a part of the duty-bound skepticism she held towards everyone.
"Please rest tomorrow, and you can familiarize yourself with the environment of Saint Kray Temple. Accordingly, you may need to officially take up your duties the day after. Do you have any questions regarding our employment details?"
Headmaster Violet glanced at the clock and out the window at the evening sky, sensing that it was getting late, and she had other duties to attend to, as today’s meeting had been squeezed into her schedule.
"No problem, I will try not to trouble Headmaster Violet,"
Lanci sighed, understanding the Principal’s busy official engagements, especially since she held other important positions within the Empire.
