"If this place truly is the territory of the Mafia, why would the Mafia lay a hand on her...?"
After all, as the sister of Professor Landry, the renowned scientist who’s currently a big name in the research world, harming her would undoubtedly bring about trouble.
The current Mafia boss, despite having some above-board connections, has always preferred to keep a low profile and stay hidden in the underworld.
Even some of his Brilda Mafia subordinates are now openly conducting corporate business in parts of the Empire that can see the light of day.
The boss himself spends most of the year in the Riverport Building at the heart of his territory.
A Mafia boss with such a strategy is unlikely to have ordered her assassination.
Judging by the actions of the little boss who was chasing her and his group of Mafia, they seemed more like they were acting behind the boss’s back, accepting a job with a reward so high, its limits were unknown!
Elsa gritted her teeth, her gaze becoming firm and resolute.
She decided to give it a try.
The next second, she had quietly stood up and under the reflection of the moonlight, like a swift black wolf, she quickly disappeared into the unknown alley, continuing her journey of escape.
Not far behind her, the pursuers’ footsteps grew increasingly near, shadowing her, relentlessly closing in.
She had just planned a completely new escape route in her mind and hadn’t moved long when she heard a sharp swoosh, followed by a bullet hole bursting out of the brick wall, scattering dust.
Atop a high-rise container, a sniper from the Mafia, cunningly hiding in the shadows, took aim at her.
His Magic Conductor Firearms were equipped with a silencer modification, and there was no gunshot sound.
Fortunately, Cat Boss in her arms quickly noticed, and a stream of invisible magic enveloped the girl. The bullet, as if hitting an invisible wall, veered off its course, narrowly grazing past the girl and disappearing into the night.
"Elsa, are you running in the wrong direction?"
Cat Boss exclaimed in shock.
It felt like Elsa was running the wrong way, and she didn’t seem mistaken, but intentionally heading towards the heart of the Mafia’s territory.
"That’s right, we’re heading to the Mafia’s heartland, as long as the boss finds out, we’re probably going to be safe."
Elsa told it, quickening her pace.
She wasn’t fleeing outward as before, but was running headlong towards the heart of the Mafia, a bustling area with a glimmer of light.
"Stop right there!"
The crew-cut Mafia man noticed Elsa’s direction of movement, was stunned for a moment, and after he was completely sure she was doing it on purpose, he also detected her intention.
Not just him, the girl’s actions panicked the Mafia guys chasing her.
Their hunting operation had not been approved by the boss and was entirely a private affair.
But the sum offered by the client was just too great.
The deposit alone could comfortably cover their deficit in performance.
Once the job was done and they received a huge amount, they could leave the Mafia and live a life of wealth and freedom.
Now, with the boss being so cautious, they wouldn’t have to worry too much about being relentlessly hunted by the boss during this time frame even if they defected from the Mafia.
They were sure that the boss wouldn’t want to make a big deal out of it!
But this cunning girl seemed to have seen through their intentions, discovering that the Mafia’s internal assembly area was the correct path to escape death!
If they made too much noise and alerted the boss and his close associates, their plan would be thoroughly ruined, and they would face dire consequences themselves.
"We need to kill her quickly!"
With this in mind, the Mafia men clenched their jaws and picked up the pace, disregarding everything else.
But the girl deftly maneuvered through the maze of buildings, climbing up old fire escapes at times, passing through narrow pipes and tunnels at others, always eluding them, and the long-range weapons couldn’t harm her, protected as she was by invisible telekinetic forces.
Meanwhile, Elsa was rapidly strategizing in her mind.
The obvious desperation in the actions of the group of Mafia completely confirmed her guess—
Their actions were out of line, wary of drawing internal attention.
"Little Black Bread, time your attacks on the containers!"
Elsa commanded.
Cat Boss nodded and used Wind Blade.
A series of explosions erupted all at once, jarringly loud against the quiet night.
Their surroundings—the steel bars, containers, and even old mechanical equipment weighing tons—were recklessly destroyed, kicking up whirlwinds of dust and debris.
Each explosion, like a hammer strike to the heart, made the pursuers’ faces grow even paler and their movements more desperate.
"This damn bitch!"
They knew that if things continued this way, the entire Mafia would be turned upside down by this seemingly frail girl.
Before, the girl was in their grasp, cautious not to make a sound. Now she had started taking the initiative, causing a commotion deliberately!
The louder the noise, the closer to the heartland, the more likely it would be noticed by the boss!
"Little Black Bread, just get to the bright lights of the Riverport core area and we’ll be safe."
She whispered a few words to the black cat in her arms, as if making a promise.
"Mhm!"
Upon hearing this, Cat Boss felt encouraged once again.
Even without Lanci, it was a top-tier driver!
The damp air from the Moat sent chilling shivers through the atmosphere.
In the distance behind them.
Over a dozen men in black moved swiftly, ghost-like.
But now it was their turn to avoid the girl’s destruction of the terrain, all the while struggling to quell the noise of the collapsing containers.
They were at a loss.
The agile figure of their hunt and the cat’s bizarre abilities left them feeling thorned, caught between a rock and a hard place.
As the distance between them and their prey grew increasingly larger, it seemed difficult to capture her before she reached the Mafia port’s heartland, and their anxiety nearly peaked.
