Chapter 2091 - Impossible!
That bundle of resplendent, nine-colored light illuminated the entire swath of chaos.
Buddhist Son Lian Sheng’s eyes lit up, and irrepressible excitement and astonishment appeared on his brow.
This was unquestionably a supreme Godhead!
“This is the Dao of Mysterious Oblivion. ‘Oblivion’ refers to the place where all things go in destruction, the place where all fades and disappears. ‘Mysterious’ refers to the mysteries of the Grand Dao!
“This lofty one used this power to prove his Dao, wage war throughout the heavens, defeat powerful foes, and dominate all others of my era!” The old man’s eyes shone with reminiscence. “Back then, all who knew me honored me as Celestial Venerate Mysterious Oblivion!”
Lian Sheng was impressed.
He had an extraordinary divine sense and keen eyes. He’d long since realized that the Godhead was extraordinary.
In the God Domain, anyone who acquired it would have no need to fear failing to become a Master God one day!
“But it’s a pity.” The old man sighed deeply. “Back then, in a grand battle over the destiny of the heavens, the type of conflict written of in history books and recounted in songs and poems, I.... lost.”
Lian Sheng was stunned.
But before he could ask any questions, the old man waved. “My remnant of will won’t last much longer. Take my Godhead and go.”
Buddhist Son Lian Sheng put away his golden alms bowl and clasped his palms. “Many thanks, Senior!”
The old man in plain robes raised his hand and waved it through the air.
Whoosh!
The Godhead blurred into a beam of divine radiance and shot toward Lian Sheng, but before it had gotten far, it suddenly shook, stopped, and quivered in midair.
“Hm?” The old man furrowed his brow. Buddhist Son Lian Sheng was stunned too.
But then, a calm voice rang out. “That Godhead isn’t suitable for him.”
The torrential chaos churned accompanying this voice, then parted, creating a path. A tall, upright figure approached along it, leisurely and unhurried. His blue robes swayed around him, and he seemed both extraordinary and detached.
This was none other than Su Yi.
The Epoch Spark’s chaos fire flowed over his hand, emanating strange and mystical power. It suppressed the torrential chaos on all sides, and it held that multi-colored Godhead firmly in place!
The old man’s pupils constricted, and he silently rose from the rock.
When he saw the Epoch Spark in Su Yi’s hands, his eyes widened in disbelief, and he froze, his expression shifting erratically.
Lian Sheng, however, frowned and exclaimed, “Su Yi!”
Su Yi laughed. “No need for such surprise. If you can enter a hidden realm, I naturally can too.”
Lian Sheng quickly calmed down, then gestured to the Godhead. “You arrived one step too late. That senior said he’s giving the Godhead to me.”
“Competitions for good fortune aren’t first come, first served,” said Su Yi. “Besides, if I hadn’t arrived, I’m afraid that Godhead would have ruined you.”
Lian Sheng frowned. “What do you mean?”
Su Yi looked at the old man in plain robes. “You’d best ask him that.”
Lian Sheng froze; he could tell that something was amiss here. “Don’t tell me there’s really a problem with that Godhead?”
“Hmph!” The old man snorted coldly and disregarded Lian Sheng’s question. Instead, he fixed his intense, imposing gaze on Su Yi and asked, “Who... exactly are you?”
Su Yi smiled faintly. “You’ve already guessed the answer to that, haven’t you?”
The old man’s expression gradually turned unsightly. “It’s really you!?”
“Don’t waste your time with any more probing nonsense,” said Su Yi. “I just don’t get it. You died a long time ago, and even this remnant of your will is soon to dissipate. Why use your Godhead to trick and harm a junior?”
Lian Sheng froze, pursed his lips, and stared at the old man. His expression slowly shifted.
“Trick?” The old man couldn’t help but burst into uproarious laughter. “This Godhead was mine to begin with. How is what I do with it any of your business?”
“You’re wrong,” said Su Yi. “You died a long time ago. Your Godhead is an ownerless object.”
The old man’s smile froze in place. He suddenly roared, “Little monk, hurry! Take the Godhead and run. I’ll handle him! Be quick about it, or you’re doomed to leave empty-handed!”
Boom!
Before the old man’s voice had even finished echoing through the air, the old man shot at Su Yi. The chaos churned, and the old man appeared before Su Yi in a flash, quick as lightning.
When he lowered his hand, terrifying divine majesty transformed into a diagram of black talisman markings and descended with ruthless force.
Su Yi couldn’t even be bothered to look at it. He just raised the Epoch Spark into the air.
Kaboom!
Chaos firelight erupted, and the black diagram exploded.
The old man stiffened as if electrocuted, then shrieked in agony and staggered backward. Upon closer inspection, half his body had been burned off. It was a startling, soul-stirring sight.
“It’s you! It really is you!” The old man screamed, his expression hideous and contorted, and his eyes full of resentment and loathing.
Lian Sheng watched from a distance, unmoving, and so startled that he broke out in cold sweats.
He could tell that this didn’t bode well! He didn’t heed the old man’s warning and decided against seizing the Godhead.
“Why not take the Godhead and run!?” roared the old man, his gaze terrifying. “Do you really think that guy is warning you out of the goodness of his heart? You’re wrong! With him here, you won’t acquire anything at all!”
Lian Sheng pursed his lips and said nothing, but he silently took out his golden alms bowl and readied himself for battle.
Su Yi nodded approvingly. “Not bad. It’s no wonder that all three Buddhas think so highly of you. You’re not stupid enough to let a Godhead blind your Buddhist Heart.”
He poured his power into the Epoch Spark, and...
Boom!
Chaos flames shot out of the Epoch Spark, then enveloped the hovering Godhead and brought it to Su Yi.
The old man didn’t dare to intervene! 𝔫𝖔𝔳𝖕𝖚𝔟.𝔠𝔬𝖒
His face was hideously contorted, and he hissed, “Why? Didn’t you say that you suppressed and killed us here so that future generations might one day have the opportunity to inherit our mantles? Why seize my Godhead?”
Lian Sheng’s expression shifted. Wait, it was Su Yi who slew and imprisoned these terrifying existences from long-lost epoch civilizations here all those years ago?
Su Yi examined the Godhead and said, “Ah, but the me standing before you now is a member of the next generation. I mean, look at me! I’ve yet to even become a god!”
The old man fell silent. Fuck! Seriously?
“No matter how unwilling you are to accept the situation, you died a long time ago, and you ought to have begun your eternal slumber and vanished into oblivion a long time ago.” Su Yi looked at the old man. “It was the disappearance of reincarnation that let your remnant will cling desperately to ‘life.’ Now that I’ve returned, what do you have to be bitter about?”
The old man’s breathing sped up, and his expression filled with uncertainty.
A while passed before he broke into a hideous grin. “You’re wrong. During the long, long years without reincarnation, the Path of the Ancient Gods has changed. The terrifying existences not even you could kill are reawakening amidst the endless darkness and... there’s absolutely no way they’ll spare you!!”
“You’re talking about the Dark Skeletal God Emperor, the Glazed Illusion Hell Queen, and others like them?”
“That’s right!” said the old man.
“Back then, I managed to consign them to the darkness,” said Su Yi. “In the future, I’ll be able to erase them, one by one.”
He looked at the old man. “Is there anything else you’d like to say?”
The old man fell silent.
Meanwhile, waves of emotion crashed through Lian Sheng’s heart. He couldn’t follow Su Yi and the old man’s conversation at all, but that didn’t stop him from picking up on a few hints and details!
For instance, that the Path of the Ancient Gods had changed in reincarnation’s absence. Moreover, it seemed that the gods who’d fallen in the Deification Star Sea had died at Su Yi’s hands. The realization left Lian Sheng bewildered.
Su Yi was the reincarnation of Li Fuyou. By now, that was common knowledge. But had Li Fuyou ever explored the Path of the Ancient Gods? He hadn’t!
Didn't that mean that Su Yi had yet another prior incarnation, one no one knew about? Someone mighty enough to use the power of reincarnation to maintain order in the Path of the Ancient Gods?
If that was the case, just how strong was this unknown past incarnation of his?
Lian Sheng’s Buddhist heart was as firm as a boulder, yet at this moment, it shifted slightly. For the first time, he found Su Yi, a “member of the same generation,” completely unfathomable.
The feeling came with a sense of formless, lingering pressure!
“You’ve returned too late. The Path of the Ancient Gods has already changed. The former order is marching steadily toward collapse, and a legendary age of darkness is imminent. Nothing can stop it now!”
A little while later, the old man sighed and murmured, “When the time comes, it’ll overturn the divisions of the past, present, and future. All will be built anew, and an unprecedented age of darkness and turmoil shall begin!”
The old man looked at Su Yi and said slowly and emphatically, “You... cannot stop it!”
Lian Sheng’s heart churned. A legendary age of darkness? Unprecedented turmoil?
Bang!
But before Lian Sheng could come to his senses, Su Yi waved his sleeves through the air. The old man’s avatar of will was blasted to bits, destroyed completely.
Over the past month or so, every time he entered a hidden realm, he’d encountered a similar remnant of will. They’d been left there by gods dead for an unknowably long time.
Every last one of them lost their composure when they saw Su Yi carrying the Epoch Spark. Some went mad, others were overcome with fury and hatred, while still others slumped in despondency.
Su Yi had already figured out a fair bit from his interactions with these remnants of long-dead gods. For instance, just as he suspected, the hidden realms of the Deification Star Sea were all manifested from dead gods. And practically every last one of them had died by the hand of his first incarnation.
All of these gods viewed his first incarnation with bone-deep trepidation!
Thanks to the Epoch Spark’s power, Su Yi had an absolute advantage against the gods’ remnant wills. This was why he was practically invincible as he explored one hidden realm after another!
“Now, it’s time for you and me to talk business,” said Su Yi. He turned to face the dazed young monk.
Lian Sheng stiffened, but his face quickly regained its usual calm. He said with the unperturbable countenance of a Buddhist statue, “I won’t submit. I am willing to fight to the death!”
Su Yi’s eyes shone with a strange light. He teased, “I saved you earlier. Bad enough that you aren’t grateful, but now you want to fight to the death? Don’t you think that’s a bit much?”
Lian Sheng froze, then shook his head. “I didn’t request your intervention. Naturally, you cannot accuse me of repaying kindness with enmity.”
Su Yi laughed. “Very well. I have no interest in killing you. Show me the sutras of the past, present, and I’ll consider us even.”
Lian Sheng staunchly refused. “There’s absolutely no way!”
