Chapter 769: Insectoids in Black Armor 755
The Unified Empire Army penetrated the capital city of Tianduo Star, methodically occupying crucial strongholds, and under the cover of firepower from warships and warplanes in the air, resisted the onslaught of Insectoids surging forward like a tide.
Each Insectoid essentially represented the life of a native from Tianduo Star. There might have still been survivors on the planet, but definitely not many. 𝓃𝓸𝓿𝓹𝓾𝓫.𝓬ℴ𝓶
The fearless tact of the Insectoids still made the battle somewhat difficult; the moment the firepower of the Unified Empire Army fell short, a large number of Insectoids would surge forward, causing losses to the ground forces of the Unified Empire Army.
There were also a few flying Insectoids taking to the skies to confront the aircraft of the Unified Empire Army, however, these mutated Insectoids were often the priority targets.
The warships of the Unified Empire Army, flying at altitudes ranging from several hundred meters to a kilometer, kept firing at the ground. The support fire-used cruisers and destroyers tried to use smaller caliber naval guns, as their thousands of WM heavy cannons could nearly flatten a city with a single shot.
Even those small caliber naval guns could potentially destroy a street with one shot, invariably resulting in the deaths of dozens or hundreds of Insectoids. The most common form of Insectoid was very weak, and although stronger than most intelligent species and even capable of fighting against soldiers in Individual Armor, they stood no chance against heavy firepower.
“Chancellor, the 4th Brigade of the Orbital Airborne Corps in the northern suburbs of the city has encountered fierce attacks. A large number of stronger mutated Insectoids have burrowed up from the ground and engaged our troops at close range, causing severe casualties,” said a report.
Bai Zhongqi’s expression turned stern, and he said, “Immediately mobilize nearby friendly forces for support. We should also head over and see what kind of enemy we’re dealing with.”
A transport and fire support vehicle patrolling the sky landed, pulled up Bai Zhongqi’s bodyguard troops, and headed straight for the area mentioned in the report.
In the northern suburbs, Bai Zhongqi saw the true situation.
As a large number of Insectoids had burrowed up from underground, previously evading the Unified Empire Army’s penetration detection, they directly engaged the 4th Brigade of the Orbital Airborne Corps in close quarters, making it difficult for Iridium Star’s support fire to effectively target them.
However, the 4th Brigade of the Orbital Airborne Corps was very vigilant. After being heavily attacked, they did not stubbornly hold their positions but gradually fell back, trying to create distance. Yet, these violent Insectoids still constantly emerged, inflicting damage on them.
“Deploy more forces, push these Insectoids back!” Bai Zhongqi was also angered. He rarely participated in such ground battles; in most cases, he achieved victory in space battles and then went on to naturally receive the planets. But in the war with the Second Swarm, this approach didn’t work. The Insectoids would fight the enemy on the planet until the very last soldier, and Bai Zhongqi didn’t want to completely turn Tianduo Star into ruins by initiating a full-scale planetary bombardment, so he opted for this forceful ground landing method.
He had anticipated the war might bring severe casualties, but even then, seeing a large number of Unified Empire Army soldiers from various species being slaughtered by the Insectoids still greatly displeased him.
With more forces from the Unified Empire Army deployed, the disadvantage on this small piece of the battlefield was eventually reversed. However, in this area of less than one square kilometer, more than four hundred Unified Empire Army soldiers had died, and the bodies of Insectoids had piled up into a layer half a person high.
“What is that?” Bai Zhongqi stared at a warehouse in the distance where a group of Insectoids was emitting piercing roars toward them.
The leading Insectoid on that side was hovering in mid-air, apparently possessing anti-gravity abilities. It had a thick exoskeleton that looked like ancient general’s plate armor, and instead of compound eyes, it had a pair of diamond-shaped eyes that resembled green gemstones. Its feet were short, but its forelimbs were extremely bulky, making it look quite different from ordinary Insectoids.
“Humans, you deserve to die!”
Bai Zhongqi was taken aback as he clearly received this message, which was transmitted through psychic power. Could this Insectoid actually be a Star Warrior?
Zero, standing beside him, looked at the Insectoid with great surprise and affirmed to Bai Zhongqi, “That guy is definitely not their Empress, but it’s clear he has his own consciousness. There are many Insectoids over there with self-awareness, which is very strange.”
Bai Zhongqi paused the attack and went forward with his guards.
“Insectoid, who are you?”
The black-armored, hovering Insectoid looked at Bai Zhongqi and then noticed the powerful aura of Zero, and roared fiercely at Zero.
“Heretic! You are the Heretic’s Empress, why do you serve the humans?”
Zero scoffed contemptuously, “Ever since I was born into this world, I have served my Chancellor. What’s strange about that? As for your Empress, she was born anew in the presence of my Swarm. If you wish to dominate this galaxy, you’ll have to ask if my Swarm agrees.”
The black-armored Insectoid screamed, “Our Empress is supremely powerful, supported by eight Duke Swarms. Each Duke Swarm can easily obliterate your fleets. Even if you conquer this planet and annihilate all the Insectoids here, you cannot escape your own demise. The Empress will rule the entire universe!”
“Duke Swarms? What is that?” Bai Zhongqi realized there were many things about the Swarm he did not understand, and he hoped to learn more from this black-armored Insectoid.
However, this black-armored Insectoid was no longer willing to communicate. Right beneath him, a warehouse suddenly shattered by a huge bizarre insect breaking through from underground. The guards immediately rushed up and surrounded Bai Zhongqi to retreat. This monster, comparable in size to a warship, roared and then spat beams of light into the sky.
These light beams were extremely powerful, capable of directly shooting down fighter jets. However, the sky was filled mostly with warships from the Unified Empire Army, which were targets too big for the warship captains to ignore. A barrage of cannon fire converged, bursting with explosions and flames on the back of the bizarre insect, and in just over ten seconds, the monster was completely obliterated.
And the black-armored Insectoid, who had just been boasting, was also directly blown to pieces in the barrage.
By evening, the Unified Empire Army had mostly cleared this city of Insectoids. And as other Insectoids madly surged toward the city trying to take it back, they could only become excellent targets for the Unified Empire Army hovering in the sky, and layers upon layers of millions of Insectoids were slaughtered.
