Chapter 186 - 186

What a shame...

Leo clenched his fists and stepped forward.

Boom!

The guard blocking V and Jackie was suddenly sent flying, as if struck by a freight truck, crashing hard into the blast-resistant wall with a splat before slowly sliding down, leaving a thick trail of blood behind.

"Who's there?!"

The other guards were instantly alarmed. Only then did they spot Leo, whose optical camo had failed upon attacking.

Their combat training kicked in as they quickly raised their weapons and aimed.

"I didn't want to kill anyone. Why force me?"

Before they could react, their vision blurred—Leo had vanished.

One after another, the guards were flung like ragdolls—some slammed into the blast wall like the first, others smashed into the ceiling.

In mere seconds, the fight was over.

Every last one of the well-trained guards lay dead, bones shattered and organs ruptured.

V and Jackie were stunned.

That was brutal. They could've taken out the guards too, but not with such ease.

And Leo's speed was insane.

Even with their Kiroshi Optics Mk.3, they could barely catch a blur of motion. If they had been the target, they wouldn't have stood a chance.

"Move!"

Leo didn't waste words. He pointed to the elevator.

V and Jackie snapped back to action and rushed to follow. When the three reached the elevator, they found it locked down.

"Back up."

Leo motioned for V and Jackie to step aside, then grabbed the elevator doors and forced them open.

He stepped inside, only to realize it was useless.

By 2077, elevators no longer used physical buttons—only touchscreen panels. The one next to the doors showed nothing but a locked icon.

"Hey!" Leo reached behind the front desk and dragged out a receptionist.

When the red alert triggered, most of the staff had followed protocol and evacuated. Only this receptionist had run back halfway, realizing she'd forgotten something.

She had walked in on Leo's massacre.

Paralyzed with fear, she hid under the desk, praying she wouldn't be noticed. Unfortunately, she could hide from his scanner.

"Unlock the elevator. Now. Or I kill you."

"I... I can't! I don't have the clearance! Once red alert is triggered, even the lobby manager can't override it!"

"Then who can?"

"Only... only upper management..."

She was trembling like a quail, too terrified to lie.

Leo didn't press her further. A quick strike to the neck knocked her out cold. V picked up a pistol from one of the dead guards. Then grabbed a grenade, pulled the pin, and lobbed it toward the blast door.

The three of them ducked for cover.

Boom!

The explosion left the door blackened—but otherwise untouched.

Jackie grabbed a kinetic SMG and unloaded a full burst.

Only a few sparks flew off the surface.

"Move. Let me try."

Leo stepped forward.

The marble floor cracked beneath his feet like a spiderweb.

He closed the gap to the door in a flash and delivered a punch.

Boom!

The impact echoed like a grenade blast.

A visible shockwave spread from the point of contact.

The blast door dented slightly—a shallow crater.

It worked—but barely.

Just one small dent. Who knew how many more punches it would take?

"There!"

A shout came from behind.

A squad of heavily armored soldiers stormed into the lobby, wielding smart and tech weapons. They weren't reinforcements from Arasaka Tower. They were Konpeki Plaza's own Special Rapid Response Team, stationed at Arasaka Seaside.

Behind them were dozens of additional guards. 𝔫𝖔𝔳𝖕𝖚𝔟.𝔠𝔬𝖒

V and Jackie dove behind the front desk. They were only wearing high-end suits custom-fitted by Dexter—not Leo's bulletproof combat gear.

A single bullet could be fatal.

"Stay down. Leave them to me." Before the words had fully left his mouth, Leo had already grabbed two kinetic weapons from fallen guards.

His Murasama blade and custom gear were still in the Delamain cab.

The only thing he'd brought in was the Falchion exosuit.

But even just the Falchion was more than enough. The weapons weren't smart-linked, but the Falchion helmet came with a tactical visor and built-in auto-targeting.

Leo opened fire, cutting down the unarmored guards trailing the heavily armed squad.

He didn't stay in one spot either. Despite the suit's protection being strong enough to shrug off regular bullets, he darted through the storm of gunfire, using the suit's high-speed mobility along with his own dodge skill to avoid hits altogether.

Before long, both guns clicked empty. He tossed them aside.

The sheer force of the throw smashed into two of the armored soldier's helmets, leaving visible cracks.

The impact was strong enough to snap their necks. Leo rushed past their collapsing bodies.

In the blink of an eye, the tactical knives strapped to their thighs were in his hands.

Then the slaughter began.

V and Jackie peeked over the desk, ready to provide cover. But quickly realized—they weren't needed.

Leo didn't need support.

They could barely see him. What they did see was enemies, wide-eyed with terror, throats being slashed by a blur of motion.

Even the soldiers clad in heavy ballistic armor, armed to the teeth, looked like livestock led to slaughter. The armor may have covered the whole body, but between the helmet and vest, there were always gaps.

Leo found those gaps—every time. One precise stab was enough to take them down.

The lobby turned into chaos.

Arasaka's forces were cut down one after another. Finally, after more than half of them were dead, the survivors lost their nerve and fled in every direction.

They weren't like the conscripted peasant soldiers of Japan's Sengoku era.

But it didn't matter. Their enemy was a nightmare. And they'd already lost too many.
