Be that as it may, logic and feelings, especially hope, don't always go hand in hand. They want their freedom and hope that he will honor his word, so they have to believe him. It is not as if they have any other worthwhile choice.
They have two choices. They can either think nothing of his promise and accept their fate. Or they can hope for their freedom.
Besides, it is not going to cost them anything. Regardless of what they choose to believe, it won't change the fact that they are slaves. So they can be hopeless slaves or hopeful slaves.
Black Knife chose to be a hopeful slave. He knelt down and said, "I promise to serve you with all of my heart, Master Faceless."
Legion knew that he was pretending, but they still applauded him by saying, "Good. Very good."
The other three followed in the footsteps of their boss and also knelt down before promising to be loyal to him.
Legion didn't care about the level of their sincerity. They only cared that the seed of hope had been planted, so they felt comfortable going ahead with their plan.
They said to them, "Your mission will begin in three days. You can do whatever you want in the meantime. But you mustn't get into trouble."
"You also should not call off the helper that you asked for. Let her come to the base. Notify me when she is on her way." 𝖓𝖔𝖛𝔭𝖚𝖇.𝔠𝖔𝔪
Black Knife sighed in pity for the fate weaver, but he had no intention of disobeying this order.
He bowed and said, "Your will will be done."
Legion stop bothering them there. They pretended as if they were gone, but they were still listening to the thoughts of the four of them.
Because they are listening to the thoughts of four minds at once, it is costing them 4 units of spiritual energy to keep the divine ability going.
This expenditure is not a problem to them because of their regeneration of 24 units of spiritual energy per hour and because of their new Life Siphon divine ability. Thanks to Life Siphon, they can leech off the spiritual energy they use from their slaves.
Four slaves with one at rank 3, two at rank 2, and one at rank 1 means that they have an extra regeneration of (3 + (2 × 2) + 1) per hour. So they have a total regeneration of 32 units of spiritual energy per hour.
This is just an extra 8 units of spiritual energy for regeneration per hour. This is apart from the maximum storage of spiritual energy that each of their slaves also grants them.
The rank 3 Assassin has a storage of 40 units of spiritual energy. The rank 2 seer and rank 2 traveler have a storage of 20 units of spiritual energy each. Finally, the rank 1 merchant has a storage of 10 units.
In total, they have gained an extra 90 units of spiritual energy that they can use in an emergency. The only thing they have to worry about is mental fatigue from using the divine ability for so long and receiving a constant influx of information from the minds of people.
If it were a normal person, the mental fatigue would be their biggest concern. Because of it, a telepath won't be able to focus on other things while listening to the minds of others. Once they do it for too long, their minds will be tired, and they will be at risk of losing control.
But Legion is not like normal people. They have many minds taking turns using the divine ability and analyzing the information gained from the minds of the four of them.
So mental fatigue is the least of their concerns. They were able to listen to four minds at the same time while doing other things.
Their current plan is to begin training. They have a couple of free days before they have to report back to work. They plan to use those days to reach the peak of power of rank 2 as soon as possible.
Their current spiritual power is 20 units. They plan to raise it to 40 units with energy water while simultaneously training their divine abilities too.
The divine ability that they plan to train is still Sever. They also plan to add Death Mark into the midst.
After they reach a certain point in Sever and Death Mark, they will then train their Reflector Shield. As for the rest, they don't need to be trained actively for the meantime.
They plan to do this for two days. Then they will go and intercept the fate weaver and her helper on their way to the base.
Unfortunately, they couldn't intercept the fate weaver because she didn't come. She sent a message to Black Knife that said, "Good luck."
She didn't explain anything. She only sent that message on the day she was supposed to come. Legion took their time to wait for her in front of the base, but she didn't come.
Legion-3 said, "It seems she sensed something."
Legion-7 said solemnly, "She has to be strong too. She has to be at least rank 3."
Legion-10 shrugged and said, "If she knows what's good for her, she will run away. But I doubt that. She is going to bring trouble for us at this rate."
Legion-1 grinned fearlessly and said, "Even better. It means we can still meet her in the future if she is foolish enough to cross paths with us."
They understood that she had sensed danger and refused to come. It made them disappointed and irritated.
They were hoping to avoid her escape by coming to intercept her themselves. They thought that their Aegis Shield would blind her from sensing danger. Unfortunately, that didn't work.
It meant that she was powerful enough to sense the danger and smart enough to run away from them. They both hated her and admired her resolve.
