The Emperor hadn’t expected such words from Xu Zening and found himself momentarily at a loss for words.
“Very well,” the Emperor finally conceded.
As Xu Zening walked out, he asked Gao Huaichang, “How are things at the Horse Market?”
Gao Huaichang bowed and reported, “Fourth Highness is in complete disarray. The situation there is a total mess.”
Xu Zening let out a cold laugh. “Everyone must bear the consequences of their actions. Next, it’s time to stir up some trouble at his mint. Find a way to cause a commotion there.”
Gao Huaichang glanced at Xu Zening. “Your Highness, you used to turn a blind eye to these matters. Why intervene now?”
Xu Zening looked at Gao Huaichang. “The fire has reached my doorstep. Go make the arrangements.”
Meanwhile, Shen Roujia stared at the silver needles before her, lost in thought.
On one side were pristine silver needles, and on the other, blackened ones.
Xu Shiyi briefly explained, “These were the needles checked by Li Wei’s group, and these are the ones I re-tested.”
Shen Roujia frowned slightly. “It seems Li Wei is indeed suspicious.”
Xu Shiyi sighed. “The silver needles were coated with a thin layer of wax and had been slightly wiped, which is why they didn’t change color.”
Shen Roujia nodded approvingly. “You did well. Don’t destroy that evidence yet. Once this is over, we’ll hand it over to His Highness to deal with.”
Xu Shiyi nodded in acknowledgment.
“Your Highness, judging by the current situation, it seems the outbreak is genuinely under control. Including the two who have passed, the rest are on the road to recovery,” Xu Shiyi reported.
Shen Roujia then asked, “And what about Liu Xia? How is she doing now?”
Xiao Fu quickly replied, “Liu Xia is in good condition. She’s being checked daily and hasn’t shown any other symptoms.”
