“Why is there so much commotion up ahead?” Shen Roujia asked.
Zhang San craned his neck to look but shook his head. “I can’t see anything.”
Shen Roujia waved it off and decided to go find Tao Hua as usual. But this time, she was surprised to find that Tao Hua was in the front hall.
The singing and dancing were the same as always, but the atmosphere felt strangely tense.
Shen Roujia glanced at the people around her, her gaze settling on Tao Hua, who was frowning. Tao Hua subtly gestured for her to head to the back.
Sweeping her gaze over the crowd, Shen Roujia was shocked to spot a monk with closed eyes, chanting prayers.
Surprised, Shen Roujia quickly turned to head toward the back, thinking it better to avoid getting involved in whatever was happening. The last thing she needed was to get caught up in something that could lead to trouble, like being chased or worse.
Shaking her head, Shen Roujia quietly made her way to the back, trying to ignore the strange events unfolding around her.
Once Shen Roujia had entered the rear courtyard, Tao Hua began to address the situation in the hall.
“All guests are welcome, so we can’t simply ask anyone to leave. It’s best for everyone to avoid unnecessary conflict.”
After saying this, Tao Hua instructed the staff, “Tonight, all drinks are half price. Please enjoy yourselves, gentlemen.”
Despite his words, Tao Hua still frowned as he glanced at the monk who was still chanting. Seeing that he had no intention of leaving, he reluctantly walked over to him.
“Young Monk, if you’re not here to watch the performances, I suggest you find another place.”
The young monk slightly lifted his eyelids, his clear eyes meeting Tao Hua’s. “Benefactor, this humble monk is here to observe the ways of the world. I accepted a friend’s invitation and cannot easily break my promise.”
Tao Hua exchanged bewildered looks with the attendants beside him, realizing they were dealing with a stubborn individual.
With a sigh of resignation, Tao Hua decided not to press the matter. “Very well. Please take a seat in a private room. This place is too chaotic for chanting.”
