“Hmph, you’re the only one from the main branch who still knows some manners,” Zhai Rongxiu sneered.
Shen Roujia suppressed the disgust rising within her and forced a smile as she nodded.
“Aunt, it’s rare for you to visit the capital, and since I’m in the palace, it’s understandable that the hospitality might not be up to standard.”
Zhai Rongxiu looked Shen Roujia up and down, her words becoming increasingly insolent.
“You’re lucky, being the youngest and becoming the Crown Princess. Too bad that face of yours won’t secure your position.”
After saying this, Zhai Rongxiu pushed the young woman behind her forward. “This is your cousin, Shen Rulan. I specifically brought her along to suggest she become a secondary consort to the Crown Prince, so she can look after you in the palace.”
Xiao Fu, upon hearing this, was so outraged that she stepped forward. “You insolent woman! How dare you speak to the Crown Princess like this!”
Zhai Rongxiu’s eyebrows shot up in anger. “Where did this insolent maid come from? Someone, seize her!”
Shen Roujia could no longer hold back; this woman was getting too full of herself.
With a derisive laugh, Shen Roujia said, “Aunt, I invited you here out of respect for our blood ties. I suggest you don’t overstep your bounds.”
Zhai Rongxiu was taken aback, clearly not expecting such a bold response from Shen Roujia.
She stood there, stunned, before Shen Roujia calmly returned to her seat.
With a slight chuckle, Shen Roujia glanced at Shen Rulan, who bore a striking resemblance to her mother. “Cousin, you’re already quite old. I doubt the Crown Prince would be interested.”
Shen Rulan’s eyes widened in shock, her thickly applied makeup nearly cracking.
“What!”
