As soon as the fake bride emerged, Xu Zening pulled her over, fully trusting what he saw.
Shen Hexuan handed the fake bride’s hand to Xu Zening. “You must treat her well from now on. Don’t let her suffer any more.”
Xu Zening nodded sincerely. “You can trust me, Brother.”
Shen Hexuan’s expression was unreadable, but he watched the wedding that shocked the Martial Alliance with a hint of nervousness.
Time passed slowly. After the ceremony, Xu Zening instinctively glanced at Shen Hexuan.
Shen Hexuan met his gaze with calm eyes, appearing completely at ease as if nothing unusual had happened.
Xu Zening, however, smirked. “Now that she’s my wife...”
Before the fake bride could react, Xu Zening suddenly lifted the red veil from her head.
The heavily made-up face resembled Shen Roujia’s even more.
But the eyes and aura were impossible to imitate. Shen Hexuan shot up from his seat. “What are you doing?”
Xu Zening’s face darkened. “Shen Hexuan, I’ve respected you, but I never thought you’d resort to something like this.”
With a single palm strike, Xu Zening sent the fake bride crashing to the ground. Everyone stared at the unfolding drama, unsure of what to do.
“Find her! Search every inch if you have to, but bring her back!”
Shen Hexuan hesitated as Xu Zening led Xu Shiyi toward him. “You, come with me to check the carriages.”
Shen Hexuan clenched his fists, as if something truly significant might be hidden there. He glared at Xu Zening. “You have no right to force her into anything against her will.”
Xu Zening sneered. “If she didn’t want this, she could’ve told me directly. What’s the meaning of all this?”
Pushing past Shen Hexuan, Xu Zening strode forward, as if Shen Hexuan’s actions only confirmed his suspicions. Shen Hexuan frowned, watching Xu Zening leave.
Only then did he release his grip, feeling relieved.
If this could buy enough time, no matter how Shen Roujia escaped, Shen Hexuan would be content.
The entire City Lord’s Manor had descended into chaos, with everyone uncertain of what they were about to face.
