At that moment, a whistling sound came from behind, freezing her in place. She had no idea what was happening.
Shen Roujia hesitated for a moment before quickly turning around to dodge.
It was a wolf—no, several wolves.
Shen Roujia’s heart went cold. She wasn’t sure what to think and had no idea what to do.
She laughed bitterly, “Is this how my life is supposed to end?”
Unwilling to give up, she dodged to the side, using all her skills, preparing for a life-and-death battle with the wolves.
Shen Roujia clenched a jade hairpin tightly in her palm.
The wolves, their mouths dripping with saliva and eyes glowing green, looked at her as if she were prey.
Shen Roujia couldn’t hear her own heartbeat; it was almost like it had stopped. She frantically dodged, but her clothes still got torn in several places.
Shen Roujia stood stunned, unsure of how to react. As a wolf lunged at her, she instinctively stretched out her hand to block it.
In that desperate moment, the pain she expected didn’t come.
Shen Roujia blinked, puzzled by what had just happened.
Still skeptical, she glanced around.
Unexpectedly, the wolf had collapsed in front of her. She heard voices and the sound of arrows whistling through the air.
Slowly, Shen Roujia raised her head and saw Gu Zhi and Wen Surong, along with a few others, sitting atop their tall horses. They hadn’t yet realized whom they had saved.
Shen Roujia suddenly stood up and called out to them, “Zhi Zhi, Uncle Wen…”
Wen Surong spoke to Shen Roujia, “There are Northern Wolves here as well.”
When they heard Shen Roujia’s voice, they seemed to be in disbelief. Gu Zhi was the first to react. He quickly dismounted and rushed towards Shen Roujia.
“Jiaoiiao, what are you doing here?”
Shen Roujia’s voice was choked with sobs as she replied, “If it weren’t for you, I would have been devoured by wolves.”
