Xu Zening paused slightly and slowly looked toward Gao Huaichang, “What happened?”
Gao Huaichang smiled awkwardly, “Princess Wen Yue came with the National Preceptor.”
Xu Zening glanced at the already-departed Su Chen, still frowning, “Where is she now?”
Gao Huaichang respectfully replied, “After the Princess arrived at the Eastern Palace, she started wandering around. The servants didn’t dare stop her…”
Xu Zening’s lips tightened into a thin line as he handed An’er to a serving maid.
“Send someone to find her. Give her a cup of tea’s time. If she doesn’t come back, chase her out.”
Shen Roujia covered her mouth and chuckled.
Xu Zening, drawn by her reaction, couldn’t help but ask, “What’s so funny?”
Shen Roujia waved her hand, smiling brightly, “I thought you wouldn’t reprimand others. It seems you have a good relationship with your sister.”
Xu Zening snorted lightly and turned to walk inside.
Shen Roujia couldn’t understand why Xu Zening’s mood changed so quickly.
“Hey… Your Highness, don’t walk away so fast.”
Xu Zening moved leisurely, seemingly waiting for Shen Roujia.
Shen Roujia hurried over and somewhat boldly grabbed his arm, stopping him.
“Your Highness, don’t you know it’s rude to leave like that?”
Xu Zening didn’t even lift his eyelids, “Didn’t you come to see An’er? What else is there?”
Shen Roujia’s face stiffened, and she coughed lightly, feeling a bit awkward.
“Can’t I come to see you as well, Your Highness?”
Xu Zening looked her up and down, “It doesn’t seem like it. Usually, when you need something from me, you bring a bowl of soup.”
Shen Roujia’s smile tightened, realizing Xu Zening had seen through her little tricks.
“That’s not it, Your Highness. You misunderstand. I came today for your matter as well.”
Xu Zening paused slightly, “Come in and talk.”
Shen Roujia instantly perked up.
“It’s not a big deal. I want to go to the library to look through the Ministry of Rites’ historical records and old documents.”
Xu Zening immediately understood Shen Roujia’s intent.
“Are you sure? Do you really want to get involved in this mess?”
Shen Roujia was determined to separate from him. If there was no other way, she would fulfill Xu Zening’s demands.
They had discussed this last time. Shen Roujia had been biding her time, waiting for a calm moment to investigate.
Xu Zening surely didn’t think she had given up on investigating.
Shen Roujia raised her chin confidently, “I’m sure. No need to worry, Your Highness.”
Xu Zening was momentarily speechless.
He grunted and casually handed her his jade token, “Take this. It will grant you access anywhere.”
Shen Roujia’s eyes widened in surprise, “Oh, this.”
Xu Zening looked at her, “What is it?”
Shen Roujia quickly took the jade token, fearing he might change his mind.
“Nothing!”
Xu Zening waved her off casually.
After closing the door, his expression immediately darkened.
Gao Huaichang cautiously opened the door and peeked inside.
“Your Highness.”
Xu Zening glanced at him, “Has the Crown Princess been sent back?”
Gao Huaichang nodded.
Xu Zening looked at Gao Huaichang, “What about that matter?”
Gao Huaichang felt the atmosphere suddenly grow colder, knowing Xu Zening was becoming angry.
He shrank back slightly, “Miss Rong is still refusing to cooperate despite suffering some hardship…”
