After Su Wen finished speaking, she slowly withdrew.

Shen Roujia watched her retreating figure, then slowly looked away. At that moment, Xiao Hei jumped onto the nearby table, tilting its head and staring at her without moving.

Shen Roujia was amused and gently rubbed its furry head. 𝚗o𝚟pub.𝚌𝚘𝚖

“Xiao Hei, what do you think I should do?”

Meanwhile, at the Gu Residence.

Gu Zhi opened a large chest and began to gently wipe the items inside with a silk cloth.

They were all items long covered in dust.

Gu Zhi sighed, picking up a jade ruyi, “Mother, I am useless. I haven’t been able to avenge you and my brother.”

This chest contained all of Gu Zhi’s mother’s dowry. Due to her low status, her biological family didn’t value her.

These items, because they weren’t valuable, were not taken by the predators in the Gu family’s large courtyard.

Thankfully, because of this, the chest of items was left for her as a remembrance.

Gu Zhi wiped each item, treating them like rare treasures.

She cleaned ten items until the last string of beads broke due to age, and the beads scattered into the bottom of the chest with a few dull thuds.

As Gu Zhi bent down to pick them up, she suddenly noticed something was wrong. She bent her finger and lightly knocked on the bottom of the chest.

Hearing the hollow sound, she quickly sat up, as if discovering a new continent.

Gu Zhi took a dagger from her sleeve and carefully searched for a seam along the side of the chest with the blade.

Sure enough, as she had suspected, the dagger easily found a seam. A slight lift with the blade, and the bottom panel was pried up.

The large chest had a hidden compartment.

Gu Zhi stood up, cautiously closed the doors and windows, and then looked at the items inside the chest, lost in thought.

Inside, neatly wrapped in oil paper, were several items.

Without hesitation, Gu Zhi picked up one package.

The palm-sized item seemed to contain a small box inside.

Gu Zhi unwrapped it layer by layer, revealing a well-preserved small redwood box.

Orchids were carved on the surface.

She pushed the box open gently, and the fragrant aroma rushed to her nose, making Gu Zhi quickly raise her sleeve to cover her mouth and nose.

Inside was an ointment box. When opened, the light yellow ointment inside looked exactly the same as the one Shen Roujia had given her.

Gu Zhi quickly closed the box. She took a few deep breaths and then looked at the many items beneath the chest, sinking into deep thought.

“What is going on…”

Shen Roujia’s mind was in a jumble, and she sneezed several times.

“Another dead end.”

She hastily gathered all the documents on the table and packed them up.

“Useless information.”

She sighed, “Xiao Fu!”

Xiao Fu ran over, “Yes, Your Highness?”

Shen Roujia waved her hand and asked, “Is there any soup on the stove?”

Xiao Fu thought for a moment, “The snow pear soup should be ready. Shall I get you a bowl?”

Shen Roujia pouted, “Snow pear soup, huh… Alright, bring me a bowl. I need to take it with me.”

Xiao Fu was stunned, “Oh, alright, I’ll go get it right away.”

Shen Roujia straightened her veil and clothes, coughed a few times to clear her throat, and took the tray from Xiao Fu’s hands.

With a genuine smile, she pushed open Xu Zening’s study door.

“Your Highness, you work so hard, still busy at this hour…”

Xu Zening didn’t even lift his eyelids, “Just leave it.”
