Shen Roujia’s calm and composed words stirred a surge of emotions within Gu Zhi, making her see Shen Roujia in a new light.

Gu Zhi remained silent, while Shen Roujia slightly raised her chin. 𝓷ℴ𝓋𝓅𝓊𝒷.𝒸𝓸𝓶

“Ah, I’ve heard a bit about the past. I remember your mother didn’t come from a good background and faced many difficulties.”

“If this young aunt truly had deep feelings, why did they disregard and belittle her back then? They could have easily arranged a marriage, waiting for General Gu to return victorious before getting married.”

Shen Roujia paused, carefully observing Gu Zhi’s expression, worried she might feel uncomfortable.

“They wouldn’t have sent your mother, a concubine’s daughter, to marry him, ignoring her and letting her suffer.”

“Instead, when General Gu achieved fame and glory, they trampled on the bones of the past, pretending to show benevolence?”

Gu Zhi seemed to be awakened by Shen Roujia’s words, quickly showing a look of realization. She smiled and patted Shen Roujia’s shoulder.

“I understand now!”

Gu Zhi swiftly mounted her horse and waved toward the carriage.

“Jiao Jiao, I won’t be seeing you back.”

Shen Roujia warmly smiled and nodded. “Take your time and be careful.”

As she watched Gu Zhi ride away, Shen Roujia leisurely got back into the carriage.

Gu Zhi was someone with a plan in mind. Shen Roujia couldn’t interfere too much in the protagonist’s matters. Since Gu Zhi had become the main character, she undoubtedly possessed abilities far superior to Shen Roujia’s.

With her protective aura, Gu Zhi would overcome obstacles without worry. Shen Roujia’s words were merely to expedite the process, helping Gu Zhi avoid unnecessary detours.

However, Shen Roujia clearly remembered that in the original plot, Gu Zhi didn’t have a young stepmother.

This meant the matter wouldn’t succeed, although Gu Zhi faced much criticism for opposing her father back then.

Shen Roujia exhaled lightly, hoping her words would be helpful.

She then turned to Xiao Fu, “Xiao Fu, let’s go to West Mountain to find my second sister.”

Xiao Fu hesitated. “Crown Princess, the street ahead is blocked. If we go that way, we have to go out of the city and take a detour, which might not be safe.”

Shen Roujia frowned slightly. “There can’t be so many unfortunate events.”

She waved her hand dismissively. “It’s fine. There are many of us.”

Despite her worries, Xiao Fu couldn’t persuade Shen Roujia, especially since she seemed eager to see Shen Siqi.

Reluctantly, Xiao Fu instructed the coachman to turn the carriage towards a quieter path.

Leaving the city, the bustling noise quickly faded, and Shen Roujia felt more at ease.

The rhythmic sound of the carriage wheels was calming. Hearing the chirping birds and feeling the gentle breeze soothed her.

Shen Roujia was half-asleep when suddenly a metallic scent of blood filled the air.

As soon as they entered the grove, a chilling sensation crept in.

Sensing something amiss, Shen Roujia immediately ordered the driver to turn around.

But before they could act, the driver stammered in fright, “Crown Princess, outside… there are many dead bodies…”

Xiao Fu turned pale with fear and blocked Shen Roujia. “Turn the carriage around and leave! We can report this to the authorities later!”

Shen Roujia gently patted Xiao Fu’s shoulder to reassure her. “I’m fine.”

But Xiao Fu continued to shake her head, refusing to let Shen Roujia see.

Just then, the driver outside screamed, dropping the reins, causing the carriage to jolt.

Shen Roujia furrowed her brows, holding onto Xiao Fu’s shoulder, and calmly asked, “What’s happening outside?”
