Chen Mingyu raised his head and looked at his mother, who was glaring at him angrily. "What is it, Mother?" He asked, not understanding what was going on with his mother all of a sudden.
"Where is Meifeng?" Mother Chen asked angrily. "You are her fiancé. Why is she not here, and what about the tickets that I asked you for, your brothers? Why are they not invited to the auction? Did I not say that you should ask your company officials to send a few tickets to them as well?"
Mother Chen had indeed asked Chen Mingyu to bring enough tickets for the entire family, but —
"Mother, my company has no obligation to invite our entire family to the auction," replied Chen Mingyu calmly. He sprayed a little cologne on his clothes and turned to look at his mother. He said to her, "I already told you that if you wanted me to get some tickets, then you should have given me the money. I could have used it to buy the tickets from those who didn't want to go."
"Now that the situation has turned like this, who can you blame other than yourself?" Chen Mingyu didn't even bother to glance at his mother. He picked up the brooch and put it on his suit before turning to walk over to his shoe cabinet.
When Mother Chen saw his casual attitude, she became worried. She chased after him and immediately said to him, "How can you say such a thing? They are your brothers. In the end, you all are from the same family; how can you refuse to bring them to such an important event?"
Earlier, Mother Chen had refused because she didn't want to give money to Chen Mingyu, and she was provoked by Master Chen, who kept telling her that Chen Mingyu was lying to her and that there was no such thing as buying and selling tickets.
He told her that Chen Mingyu was such a popular pianist— who would refuse to listen to his request? As long as he requested it from his juniors, they would hand him the tickets for free.
Mother Chen also agreed with her husband. Thus, she refused to hand Chen Mingyu the money and waited for her son to bring her the tickets for the auction for her other two sons. But the day passed by, and the day of the auction arrived as well and yet Chen Mingyu didn't hand the tickets to her.
Now that the condition was like this, how could she stay quiet?
Mother Chen was feeling flustered and couldn't help but say to her son, "What do you mean by those words, huh? They are your brothers; will it make you feel better if they are left at home?"
"Mom." Chen Mingyu straightened up with an exasperated expression on his face. "They are being left alone at home. Not in the middle of the sea; they will be fine if they stay at home for a night. If you mind it so much, then you can stay with them. Or ask Daddy Song to stay?"
"How can I stay at home?" This was the auction where the four families, along with all kinds of influential people, mingled. If Mother Chen missed such an opportunity, then when will she get an opportunity like this ever again?
She could absolutely not miss this auction.
Chen Mingyu smirked upon hearing his mother's response. "Then I guess you have already made your choice?" He then turned on his heel and headed out of the room without looking at his mother, whose face turned blue and then purple, making her look like a badly burnt radish.
She wanted to chase her son and question what he meant by that, but before she could say anything, he heard Chen Mingyu say, "If you don't want to go with me, then you can say it to me straight."
As soon as he finished speaking, Mother Chen turned silent. Even though the insolence of her son made her angry, there was nothing she could do. Who asked Chen Mingyu to be her only successful child? Her other sons were simply useless!
Sighing, Mother Chen stepped out of the room and went to wait for Chen Mingyu in the living room. As soon as she came to a stop, Master Song looked at her and questioned, "Did he agree?"
Though Master Song hated to lower his head in front of Chen Mingyu, he had no choice, as the mer was the only one with a little connection. Even his wife was nothing when compared to Chen Mingyu.
"Do you think he will agree?!" Mother Chen glared at her husband. "How many times have I told you to keep control of your sons and not say anything too harsh to Mingyu? Now it is good. He is filled with anger and refuses to listen to me."
When Father Song heard that Chen Mingyu had refused, he swelled angrily like a bullfrog. He said to his wife, "How can he refuse? He is the elder brother; shouldn't he be a bit more easygoing? Why can't he leave his brothers alone for a while?"
"Ask your son when they were easygoing with him," sneered Mother Chen.
Father Song choked when he heard the words of his wife. He truly had nothing to say against it. "But he is being too much. My sons didn't say anything that harsh."
This auction could have proven to be the very breakthrough that he wanted for his sons; now that Chen Mingyu was refusing, what was he supposed to do?
He raised his head and asked his wife, "Can't you—"
"Don't even look at me," said Mother Chen angrily. She glared at her husband and said to him, "You know that I have nothing against that mer. Instead, he is the one who is getting out of control. He even told me that if I spoke up for you, he would leave me behind and go on his own."
Mother Chen would naturally not refuse the chance of going to this auction. So, how could she speak up for Master Song?
When Master Song heard the response of his wife, he was so angry that he started trembling, but he still suppressed the anger in his heart because he knew that Mother Chen would only get angry if he were to push her too much.
"Let us go." Chen Mingyu appeared at the end of the stairs and glanced at his two half-brothers, who were glaring at him angrily. The two of them were dressed to impress, but too bad, they were bound to stay at home.
Chen Mingyu curled his lips and walked past his mother before leaving the home. Mother Chen naturally followed him like a good follower because she was worried that her son would leave her behind. She could only enter the auction house if she was with Chen Mingyu.
When Master Song saw how Chen Mingyu was ignoring him, he wanted to stay at home. But when he thought about how he could use this auction to step into the society of high-class mers, he gritted his teeth and followed Chen Mingyu. He said to his sons before leaving, "Don't be angry. One of these days, this mer will suffer the same humiliation as you two."
The two Chen brothers watched their parents leave them alone and clenched their fists angrily.
"Elder Brother, that Chen Mingyu is really getting more and more bold," Second Brother Chen snapped. He stared at the entrance of the house viciously and said to his elder brother, "He actually dared to treat us like this! If he got married to Miss Shi, who knows how he would treat us?"
Second Brother Chen was really upset with the new and improved attitude of their mother towards that mer. All because he was now engaged to Shi Meifeng, their mother had gotten too soft on him.
Elder Brother Chen also pursed his lips angrily. He had been looking forward to seeing the auction and introducing himself to others, and yet all his plans were spoiled just because Chen Mingyu refused to take them with him.
He narrowed his eyes and said to his second brother, "Don't worry. So what if that mer refused to take us with him? I have a way that will allow us to enter that auction house."
He didn't want to do such a thing, but now that even his mother was listening to Chen Mingyu, Elder Brother Chen had no other choice. He was worried that if this went on, his life would be ruined.
What if Chen Mingyu used his status as Shi Meifeng's lover and attacked him and his brother? What if he married them to some old woman?
That would be tragic!
If he had known that Chen Mingyu would go out of control after becoming the fiancé of Shi Meifeng, then he would have snatched the engagement instead of giving it to Chen Mingyu!
