Chapter 277: Chapter 268: On the New Uses for Suicide Squad Players_2
“Well, at least it’s almost over!”
Lis’s expression didn’t change much, but when he stepped into Warehouse No. 8, a smile crept onto his face.
He had finally found it!
The magic fluctuations returning from underfoot informed Lis that beneath the floor was a huge space, approximately the size of the warehouse above.
He glanced at the warehouse manager, Talib, out of the corner of his eye; the man’s expression hadn’t changed.
Was the hidden Space below the work of Duke Ward, and this warehouse manager was not one of Duke Ward’s insiders?
...
But it didn’t matter now!
Pretending to have noticed nothing, Lis inspected the warehouse as he had done before, praised Talib’s work, and then left Galsa Warehouse with Hans.
What a joke, Lis certainly wouldn’t expose the arrangements in the warehouse himself; doing so would just draw Duke Ward’s hatred directly onto him, wouldn’t it?
Keeping a low profile was the key; reporting the achievements would be of no use to Lis, as the real Kenne Simon had already headed to the Feis Kingdom, and once Lis left, he would have to abandon everything associated with that identity. n𝚘vp𝚞𝚋.com
Moreover, weren’t there better scapegoats available?
That fearless group of players!
Ever since entering the Dillon Kingdom, Lis had stopped recruiting players from every tavern he visited, like he used to.
After all, his purpose for entering the Dillon Kingdom was to stir things up, and the players would certainly not keep his secrets.
So Lis had to reluctantly forgo branding that batch of quality, fresh vegetables in the Dillon Kingdom.
But that did not mean that the players could not be useful, like right now.
…..
Wrapped tightly in a black cloak, Lis entered the Mercenary Tavern located in the Lower City District of Ice Peak City.
The tavern was bustling with noise—after all, it was winter, and there were hardly any mercenary missions that required leaving the city, so most mercenaries stayed inside the city, and their only pastime was drinking at the tavern and boasting with others.
As Lis entered, the chairs and tables in the center of the tavern had been cleared away to create a space densely surrounded by mercenaries, with two burly ones in the middle engaged in an intense bout of muscle clashing.
Perhaps this is what anxious mercenaries looked like; the spectators were cheering for the wrestlers they supported, and Lis even spotted some who were gambling on the outcome.
Lis only glanced over and lost interest; wrestling, heavy with male hormones, never appealed to him.
He was here for a simple reason—to find a few players to assign a quest to.
Shortly, Lis spotted a few potential targets.
Three individuals—labeled “Escaped Holy Mother of Paris,” “Retired Old Lady,” and “Cherry Little Calves”—stood on one side of the table, gleefully watching the contest in the middle of the tavern.
“Hey, could you move over a bit? I’m about to fall off,” said Cherry Little Calves, nudging the Escaped Holy Mother of Paris with a hint of annoyance.
“Why don’t you ask the arguer to move? Clearly, he’s got the most space.”
The Holy Mother complained but still carefully sidestepped to give a little more room.
“Can’t argue with that, scared, huh?” proclaimed the Calves confidently, and then their gaze was quickly drawn back to the fervent fight.
The Calves, the Holy Mother, and the arguer were all college students, four roommates in a dorm, with just the three of them and an “Antenna Short-circuit Baby” who hadn’t logged on.
Right then, they felt someone tapping on the table beneath them, and they looked down to see a figure clad in a black cloak watching them from the side.
“What do you want?” jumped down the Escaped Holy Mother of Paris from the table; he had already caught the scent of a mission.
But evidently, he was oblivious to the fact that after he moved, the table quickly lost balance, and both the arguer and the Calves tumbled to the ground along with the table.
Clang~
Duangduangduang~
What followed was the noise of the table hitting the floor, and then the sound of the Holy Mother being pounded.
Standing to one side, Lis watched the comical scene before him with hesitation.
Should he choose someone else? These three didn’t seem reliable.
Never mind, there didn’t seem to be any notable players in Ice Peak City in his past life, nor any professional ones stationed there. These three were all around level 15, and they seemed to have fairly decent equipment.
After a moment’s hesitation, Lis decided to go with these three.
“Hello, can I help you with something?”
The Holy Mother tidied up his disheveled clothes and said with a smile,
He, who had chosen the Charm Talent from the start, acted as the diplomat of their four-person team, and they generally left the interactions with NPCs to him.
As the game progressed, players also figured out some tricks to the “Divine Revelation” game.
For instance, players with higher Charm Attributes seemed to gain the trust of game NPCs more easily. Perhaps that’s the perk of having a handsome face?
“I have a mission; are any of you interested?”
The man in the black robe spoke in a low voice, his face obscured by his hood, making it impossible to see his features clearly.
“Of course!”
Upon seeing that it was indeed a mission, the Holy Mother immediately nodded in agreement.
Joking aside, the four of them born in Ice Peak City already had regrets, and although they were fortunate to be together, the winters here were truly unbearable, with few missions. Compared to the daily life of players from the southern regions posted on player forums, the Holy Mother and his companions felt like they were engaging in ascetic practice—too boring.
But now, finally, some plot was unfolding!
“Alright then, I’d like…”
As the man in the black cloak whispered about his commission, the Holy Mother, Little Calves, and the Arguer’s mission panels flashed with new mission prompts.
—————–
[Silver Level Mission: Destroy the Galsa Warehouse!]
[Mission Requirement: The man in the black robe needs you to destroy the Galsa Warehouse, a mission of considerable difficulty! Of course, the reward is also generous!]
[Mission Reward: 150,000 Experience Points, 1,000 Gold Coins, one Intermediate Elemental Fire Gem]
[Note: The man in the black robe will provide special mission tools; use them carefully, as there is no room for failure!]
—————–
Looking at the mission rewards displayed before them, the eyes of all three lit up.
For them, still mere Bronzes, the rewards were too generous!
Without the need for discussion, the three of them immediately chose to accept the mission.
“You can trust us, even if it costs us our lives, we will complete this mission.”
The Holy Mother declared passionately, thumping his chest.
Yeah right, as if I don’t know you lot can resurrect!
Disguised as the man in the black robe, Lis couldn’t help but roll his eyes inwardly at the well-known strategies of these players.
Then, Lis took out two fist-sized gray iron spheres and handed them to the Holy Mother.
“This is a high-energy bomb, and I need you to place it in Warehouse No. 8 of the Galsa Warehouse—throw it on the ground, that’s all.”
“The bomb will explode one minute after activation, so you must use it with caution.”
“Of course, if you fail, there will be no payment.”
Listening to the man in the black robe’s low, chuckling voice, a new piece of information appeared on the trio’s panels.
[Warning: [Mission: Destroy the Galsa Warehouse!] If caught by the warehouse guards or failure to destroy Warehouse No. 8 will be deemed mission failure!]
It sounded a bit troublesome…
“No problem!”
[Escaped Holy Mother of Paris] took the bombs handed over by Lis, looking ready to brave any sacrifice.
But as he saw the detailed information about the bomb in his hands, his hands involuntarily trembled, and he quickly grasped them firmly.
[[Intermediate High-Energy Bomb]: A product combining extremely powerful gunpowder and special Magic Runes. Upon detonation, it deals 10,000 points of fire damage and 10,000 points of impact damage to targets within a range of 10*10 meters in the core area. This bomb has been specially treated; rather than a bomb, it’s more like a massive firework!]
Wogam!
10,000 points of damage!
The Holy Mother glanced at the pitiful three-digit Life Value on his panel – so this is the power of advanced items!
Not enough players in Ice Peak City combined would survive its blast, would they?
“Well, that’s that. Once you complete the mission, I’ll come back here to find you!”
Lis nodded, then stood up to leave, ignoring the three oddballs who were bent over studying the explosives.
Hopefully, Lord Lukar and Duke Ward would appreciate this grand gift!
