Rustling——
Deep in the dense forest.
A damaged, bloodied armor floated slowly through the forest, carrying an unconscious plump boy, with Cha Naixue and Silver following closely behind.
Silver looked confused,"Master, I could have kept on fighting. Why did we need to escape?"
"Because I saw the future."
"The future? Master, did you use your ability again?" Silver asked in slight surprise.
Cha Naixue’s beautiful eyes narrowed as she gazed at the dark sky,"It wasn’t the same as last time. The first time I used my lifespan, I only saw a five-word clue ’Follow Sirius’, but this time I saw a clear image."
"Image?"
"Yes, an image of a Black Spade person holding the Moon God Tears in their right hand and a divine head in their left."
"A divine... head?"
Silver’s expressionless pupils gathered focus and widened,"Are you sure you’re not mistaken, Master? Are you suggesting that not only will a Venerable appear, but also a deity?"
"Of course." Cha Naixue spoke indifferently,"I never make mistakes."
Silver’s rigid face showed confusion,"That’s not true, Master. You made a mistake about Xia Feng."
The lady in the snow dress paused in her steps then hastened her pace,"We need to walk faster now. We’re heading back to our starting point."
Silver hurried to catch up, her voice rising,"Master, you haven’t answered Silver’s question. You made a mistake about Xia Feng—"
"Silver, can you be quiet?"
"Why? Master, I corrected your mistake, you should—"
"Because if you don’t be quiet, you won’t have food for the next week."
"Oh..." Silver thought that, compared to correcting her Master’s mistakes, she was more concerned about her dinner.
They soon returned to their starting point, and then saw four members of the Holy Department gathered around a stump emitting silvery light.
Using the stump as a table.
"Pair of 10s."
"Bomb." Mu Qingtong threw four threes.
"Hey, we’re teammates, right? I play a pair of 10s, and you drop a bomb?!" Xia Feng cursed and complained.
"Don’t want it, pair of 10s." Mu Qingtong smiled slightly as she threw down two 10s.
"!" Xia Feng raised an eyebrow,"Alright, alright, Mu Qingtong, you have successfully angered me! Bomb!"
He laid out four nines!
"Hey, we haven’t played our cards yet!" Cai Kuihua and Chen Hangdao at the side were somewhat speechless—Wasn’t it supposed to be two against two? How did you two teammates start fighting among yourselves?
"Ultimate Bomb." Mu Qingtong casually threw two jokers, her beautiful eyes faintly lifted towards Xia Feng,"Four to eight."
She dropped a pile of cards and raised her last card with a smile,"Just one left. Wanna concede?"
"Slap—" Xia Feng threw down four twos and then casually tossed a four, spreading his hands helplessly to show he had run out of cards. He tilted up his chin and looked at Mu Qingtong askance.
"Is that all, Mu Qingtong?"
Cai Kuihua and Chen Hangdao slightly twitched at the corners of their eyes, both silently glanced at the single two in their hands, and said nothing.
"You guys... aren’t you going to look for the key anymore?" Cha Naixue who was watching the game couldn’t help but feel speechless. Did these Holy Department Investigators have any sense of professionalism at all?
"The matter is settled, there’s nothing to look for."
Chen Hangdao looked up, his dark eyes narrowing slightly,"Besides, isn’t the key in the hands of our esteemed Nai Xue Pavilion?"
"It’s with Gongsun Ze."
"So that’s it, then there’s even less reason to look," Chen Hangdao nodded. He adhered to the principle of valuing life above all else; if the mission failed, it failed.
"Sigh~"
Xia Feng let out a sigh, his tone filled with disappointment, "This game is boring, none are a match for me."
As he spoke, he cast a faint glance at Mu Qingtong.
"....!" The woman in the black dress raised her eyebrows, really, really, she felt like she could no longer suppress the raging fire within her heart.
These past several weeks Xia Feng had been provoking her daily, but because of some important matters, she had been restraining herself from responding.
But now, she felt it was time to find an opportunity to let this despicable fellow know, even among their own kind, there were levels!
It was time to decisively crush this fellow creature!
"Mr. Xia, I am very fond of the word ’solitude.’ Do you know why?" The woman in the black dress said with soft brows and gentle eyes as she looked at Xia Feng.
Xia Feng was taken aback and asked subconsciously, "Why?"
The woman in the black dress did not speak again, but her cool, indifferent voice echoed in Xia Feng’s heart: "Because ’solitude’ implies a sovereign, and ’alone’ means unique. It’s time to make you understand the difference between you and me, Mr. Xia!"
"..." As he looked at her calm golden pupils beneath the gold-wire half-frame glasses, Xia Feng’s heart began to beat faster, thrilled to the extreme. This woman had finally....
Finally couldn’t resist hitting me?
Xia Feng had been waiting for this day for a long time because he knew to get this lazy woman to truly exert effort, he had to physically confront and overpower her!
He wanted her to know that there were people in this world who could triumph over her!
She was never unique!
Xia Feng’s lips curved upwards, and he let out a disdainful chuckle, "Miss Mu, I must say, I thought you were scared to lay a hand on me, but it seems you do have a bit of courage~"
Their taunting and serene golden gazes met, locking eyes, sparks flying.
"I’ll come to find you after the matters here are settled, once we leave the Calamity Realm," Mu Qingtong’s gaze remained calm and gentle, similarly a calm before the storm.
"Mm-hmm~ Then it’s a deal~" Xia Feng’s faint smile conveyed his words; he only wished for the impending storm to be even more ferocious!
The few people standing to the side watched the two maintain eye contact in silence, wondering what exactly they were doing.
The silent atmosphere turned somewhat eerie.
Cha Naixue also observed the two with a puzzled look. She had pricked up her ears, hoping to hear why Mu Qingtong liked the word ’solitude,’ but instead, the woman just stared at Xia Feng without speaking.
She had a strange feeling that there were many secrets between her childhood friend and Mu Qingtong.
But—
It didn’t matter anymore.
What was important now was to obtain the Moon God Tears.
In the river of time, each moment could branch out into countless tributaries, so the future was not fixed.
However, her ability could discern the most probable future from these countless tributaries, or receive some beneficial warnings from the future.
Therefore, if it was assumed that the scene she had just witnessed would indeed happen, it would be crucial to make contact with the Black Spade people next.
The Moon God Tears were only useful for Moon God believers, and naturally of no use to the Black Spade people. Thus, she just needed to find a way to reach the Black Spade people and strike a deal with them.
Perhaps she could use this opportunity to connect with the mysterious [Spade] organization.
After all, in the future scene, the Black Spade person was seen carrying a head that appeared to belong to an Eight-eyed Evil Beast. 𝖓𝔬𝔳𝔭𝔲𝔟.𝖈𝖔𝔪
Evil Beasts were ranked from one to nine eyes; with one eye being the lowest and nine the highest, corresponding to the first to fifth ranks of a Spirit Master.
And the Evil God referred to an Evil Beast that had stepped into the [Eight-eyed Level] and ascended to the Divine Rank.
Thus, it was clear that the Black Spade person, or rather the force represented by the Black Spade person, was not just about having a Venerable on their side.
The fools at the Holy Department probably severely underestimated the importance and terror of the [Spade] organization.
This was a mysterious force capable of slaying gods!
