Chapter 902: Chapter 902: Turning Decay into Magic
Who will go first?
Zhang Xian and Zeng Shuyin looked at each other.
"I’ll go first," Zeng Shuyin said, pausing for a moment.
Yang Xiaotian’s zither playing had been too thrilling just before, and his heart was still pounding.
He paused for a while, took a deep breath, and then stepped forward.
He clasped his fists, bowed to Yang Xiaotian as a sign of respect. Yang Xiaotian’s recent display in the State of No Zither had not only earned his respect but also that of all the disciples from Kaitian Academy.
Unfortunately, Yang Xiaotian was not a disciple of Kaitian Academy.
There had been a moment just before when he had thought how wonderful it would be if Yang Xiaotian were a disciple of Kaitian Academy.
"Junior Mansion Master Yang, your mastery of the zither is indeed astounding, yet today, there’s no way you can beat me in calligraphy," Zeng Shuyin said after bowing, then he took out a brush.
The brush was black and white in color.
"Impermanence Brush," Yang Xiaotian said.
The Impermanence Brush, a famed brush from the Divine Domain, dates back to the Ancients, and its power and reputation were no less than that of Young Master Jiusheng’s Beast Language Zither.
"Junior Mansion Master Yang has keen observation, to recognize my Impermanence Brush," Zeng Shuyin exclaimed in surprise. He seldom used this brush, and few knew of it; unexpectedly, Yang Xiaotian recognized it at a glance.
Zeng Shuyin said, "Since the Junior Mansion Master recognizes this Impermanence Brush, I presume you recognize the paper in my hand as well." He then took out a piece of paper, which emitted black and white light, radiating two mysterious forces.
"Yin Yang Paper," Yang Xiaotian said.
"Exactly, Yin Yang Paper," Zeng Shuyin replied.
His Yin Yang Paper also dated back to the Ancient times.
He moved to the center of the square and said, "Today, I will perform before Junior Mansion Master Yang and all of you, and if my calligraphy is found wanting, please feel free to correct me." With that, he infused the brush with Divine Power, and it emitted black and white light.
Then, he began to write on the Yin Yang Paper.
Soon a character appeared on the Yin Yang Paper!
It was a "Dragon" character!
This dragon, as if infused with a magical force, shimmered with black and white light.
A force of Yin and Yang emanated from the character.
Then, under everyone’s gaze, the "Dragon" character began to move, first wriggling, then swimming, and finally flying off the Yin Yang Paper.
"Calligraphy with spirit! Excellent!" The crowd exclaimed in praise upon seeing this.
The character that was written contained spirit and flew out from the paper, which is considered a very high realm in calligraphy known as the "Realm of Calligraphy with Spirit."
Several ancestors nodded, their eyes filled with appreciation.
Next, Zeng Shuyin wrote another character on the Yin Yang Paper with great care, the character "Woman."
Just like the Dragon character, the Woman character began to surge and flew off the Yin Yang Paper, falling to the ground where it miraculously began walking with the gait of a woman.
"Excellent!" The disciples of Kaitian Academy shouted in approval.
Some of the new disciples who had never seen such magical calligraphy were thrilled and had their eyes opened to new possibilities.
Then, Zeng Shuyin continued writing on the Yin Yang Paper.
This time it was a "Gold" character.
As soon as the Gold character was written, he shook the Yin Yang Paper, and the Gold character fell to the ground, turning into a lump of gold.
The academy’s disciples cheered again.
Yang Xiaotian’s expression remained calm.
The lump of gold that fell from Zeng Shuyin’s Yin Yang Paper was indeed different from real gold used in reality, and could not be used as actual gold.
Nevertheless, Zeng Shuyin’s mastery of calligraphy had to be acknowledged as high.
In the blink of an eye, Zeng Shuyin had written several hundred characters.
There were mountains, rivers, the sun, and the moon.
The character for "mountain" flew off the Yin Yang Paper and descended onto the distant ground, becoming a mountain hundred of feet high; many disciples even went up to touch it and found it to be a real mountain!
The character for "river" flew off the Yin Yang Paper and landed on the ground, forming a river.
Zeng Shuyin’s hundreds of characters, once they reached the ground, seemed to form a small world, a world with mountains, rivers, the sun, the moon, trees, flowers, and grass.
Moreover, within this world, Spiritual Energy actually began to emerge.
"Creation within the writing!"
This was a realm even higher than the "sentient writing."
One could truly call oneself a creator. n𝚘𝚟𝚙𝚞𝚋.𝚌o𝚖
The magic of calligraphy lies precisely in this advantage.
This was something that neither Sword Dao nor Zither Dao could achieve.
However, the objects Zeng Shuyin had created could not exist permanently; indeed, not long after he stopped writing, those trees, flowers, grass, mountains, and rivers all dissipated.
Even so, everyone was still astonished by the magical calligraphy Zeng Shuyin had just displayed.
Zeng Shuyin put away his brush, his presence as profound as an abyss, bowed to the Kaitian Dominator and all the Ancestors, and then said to Yang Xiaotian, "Junior Mansion Master Yang, it’s your turn."
All eyes fell on Yang Xiaotian.
Yang Xiaotian walked to the center of the square and took out a brush, which, like the wooden zither, he had made on the spot.
Zeng Shuyin and the others were surprised to see Yang Xiaotian take out an ordinary brush.
Especially Young Master Jiusheng, who recalled the scene of Yang Xiaotian taking out the wooden zither at the master-apprentice ceremony, and his expression turned peculiar.
The Kaitian Dominator’s gaze was fixed on Yang Xiaotian, as if trying to see every single stroke he made.
After taking out the brush, Yang Xiaotian did not take out the paper like Zeng Shuyin, but instead channeled his Divine Power and began writing in the void before him.
The brush held by Yang Xiaotian seemed to gather all the light of the world, emitting a brilliant glow.
Like Zeng Shuyin, the first character he wrote was "dragon."
Dragon!
This character for "dragon" was imprinted into the half-space before him.
Immediately afterward, the character for "dragon" surged with light and began moving, but unlike Zeng Shuyin’s character, Yang Xiaotian’s character for "dragon" slowly grew flesh, formed a dragon body, and developed a dragon head and dragon tail!
It became a living dragon!
Witnessing the transformation of the dragon character, the disciples of Kaitian Academy were dumbfounded—could a character actually turn into a living creature?!
"Is this an illusion?!" A disciple from the academy exclaimed in doubt.
No wonder everyone was skeptical; after all, it was too hard to believe.
A single character for "dragon" had turned into a dragon with flesh and blood!
Just as everyone thought it was an illusion, suddenly, the dragon created from the character roared, its roar generating powerful waves of air that forced many disciples to retreat, with some even being blown away and landing in pain!
If the previous scene was an illusion, this pain surely couldn’t be an illusion, could it?
Excitement appeared on the Kaitian Dominator’s face: "Turning decay into magic!"
Turning decay into magic!
Characters are inanimate, but turning them into living beings is indeed a truly magical skill.
Then, Yang Xiaotian wrote a second character, but unlike "woman," he wrote "thousand."
Seeing Yang Xiaotian write the character for "thousand" and noting that it remained still, everyone was puzzled.
Subsequently, after the character for "thousand," Yang Xiaotian added "army," "ten thousand," "horses."
Thousands of troops and tens of thousands of horses!
When the four characters combined, a surge of light emerged, revealing an army consisting of a thousand men right in front of everyone!
