Several kilometers away, Nick felt something locking onto his position.
The thing was behind a mountain.
Nick immediately transmitted the location to the Champion's glasses.
But he didn't react.
"It's waiting," the Champion transmitted. "It's very careful."
Sure enough, no attack arrived.
The thing just kept staying behind the mountain.
Nick got more time to sense the object, and due to the proximity, he could make out an outline.
He couldn't see the body with clarity, but he could tell that the object had the rough shape of a human.
But it also didn't completely have the appearance of a human.
There were many irregularities in its appearance.
Nick refined the image down to the silhouette.
When the Champion saw the human outline, he was surprised.
That was more accurate than he had expected.
As they waited, Nick tried to find forms that fit the irregularities in its appearance.
Nothing seemed to really fit.
Then, he subconsciously thought of the aliens, and the image fit much better.
However, it still wasn't really accurate.
It was like there were many more and much finer tentacles everywhere.
Finally, Nick thought of something, and it fit perfectly!
He sent the new image to the Champion, and the Champion now saw the Envious Researcher clearly.
A human nervous system.
It was a brain attached to a floating nervous system.
By fighting the Envious Researcher many times, the Shields knew that it had many small tentacles that launched attacks, but they were never able to truly see them.
Some seconds later, one of the nerves extended and came out from behind the mountain.
Nick's ability told him where the nerve was, but no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't see it.
He knew its exact location but still couldn't see it.
That was terrifying.
The nerve slowly moved towards Aegis' headquarters.
BOOOOM!
As soon as it came within 500 meters of the researchers, the Champion of Light swung his sword, and a crescent of sunlight shot at the nerve.
The nerve was cut off and vanished immediately.
There was no trace of the nerve left.
Nobody saw it.
The Left Arm and the Technician jumped down to the researchers and stood in front of them.
However, the Envious Researcher didn't move from its position.
'It knows that we have something planned, and it wants to find out what it is,' Nick thought. 'It knows it is safe behind the mountain. Even if the Champion attacked right now, it would have enough time to evade with so much distance between them.' 𝓃𝓸𝓋𝓹𝓾𝓫.𝒸ℴ𝓶
