Chapter 1202: Chapter 1202 Visit
Dawson Carmichael made no movements.
Not even noticing Julius Reed’s reaching hand.
She was holding a broom, adeptly sweeping the floor.
After doing a task for a year, even a miss born with a silver spoon could learn to sweep the floor.
Snap!
Julius Reed was holding a fallen leaf in his hand.
Only then did Dawson Carmichael react.
She looked blankly at the unfamiliar man before her, uncertain of his intentions.
"Leaf."
Julius Reed lifted the leaf in his hand, smiling like a gentleman.
"It’s strange to see a fallen leaf in the season of lush foliage. Sometimes, things don’t wait to wither at their peak."
He walked to the trash can and tossed the leaf inside.
The Donovan Family was particular about cleanliness.
Ever since Dawson Carmichael moved the family to the suburbs, the place had been primarily the office area for the entire Donovan Group.
But it was limited to the front courtyard only.
The backyard remained off-limits.
Only those whom Finnegan Springs valued highly, or crucial business partners, had the chance to visit.
"Mr. Springs has gone back to the villa to rest, and he didn’t take you with him?"
Dawson Carmichael asked as she continued to sweep.
The more gentlemanly a person, the more terrifying.
Utterly hypocritical.
After experiencing the ups and downs of life, Dawson Carmichael had long since grown indifferent.
"Mr. Springs had some urgent business, apparently a business matter. So he told me to look around on my own, to consider this place like my own home."
Julius Reed responded with a smile.
He hadn’t even met Finnegan Springs.
Yet, that didn’t prevent him from speaking on Finnegan Springs’s behalf.
If Finnegan Springs had even a hint of unwillingness, then Julius would ensure Springs himself said so.
A fist often served as the most convincing evidence.
If one punch wasn’t enough, then two would suffice.
"My own home?"
Dawson Carmichael scoffed coldly, without speaking further.
She kept her head down and continued to sweep.
"Such a large courtyard, and you’re the only one? The Donovan Family is rich enough to rival a country, why so stingy?" Julius Reed stepped in front of Dawson Carmichael, slightly leaning forward: "However, although there’s only one person, this servant’s demeanor surpasses that of many young ladies from grand households. Having seen countless people, I feel you must come from a prestigious family, but... how have you fallen to this current state?"
After speaking, he looked around casually, pretending to examine the yard nonchalantly.
"You are mistaken."
Dawson Carmichael lowered her head and stayed quiet.
She seemed to dislike conversing with Julius Reed, and holding her broom, she walked alone towards the deepest part of the courtyard.
The nights in Star City were cool.
But on Dawson Carmichael, there was only a thin layer of clothing.
Her scars and weathered appearance weren’t feigned.
Julius Reed paused for a moment.
Then he disappeared into the courtyard.
...
The next day.
At dawn.
Nelson, dressed up beautifully, stood eagerly at the hotel entrance.
It had been many years since she last saw Dawson Carmichael.
Nurturing kindness was greater than the kindness of giving birth.
Had Dawson Carmichael not picked her up, Nelson might have died on the street by now.
After such a long separation, Nelson was filled with anticipation.
"Hurry up!"
When she saw Julius Reed slowly emerging, she called out anxiously, "Let’s go! You’ll have to meet the parents sooner or later."
Upon hearing this, Julius Reed turned and left.
"Brother, I was wrong."
Nelson hurriedly ran after him, grinning, "Let’s go quick!"
"Um... you might want to be prepared."
Julius Reed spoke with a bit of hesitation, "After so many years, the Donovan Family might have changed completely."
"Do you know something?" Nelson was meticulous in her thoughts. Catching the implied meaning in his words, she immediately sensed something was amiss.
"Nothing. Just a heads-up. Think about it, four years ago I was a revered leader, and back then you wouldn’t have even been qualified to serve as my maid. But now..."
"Pah! Scumbag!"
Nelson’s just-kindled suspicions were instantly extinguished.
"Hurry up! Let me tell you, my foster mother’s family is a wealthy clan in Star City, loaded with money! I was born into wealth. Even without being the saintess of Azure Mountain, I’d still live a life without worries about food and clothing."
While speaking, her eyes glowed with pride.
Leaving the hotel, the two got into a sedan.
Templeton Lena drove personally, heading to the Donovan Family.
Approximately twenty minutes later.
The car stopped at the great gates of the Donovan Mansion.
Or rather, the Donovan Corporation.
The remodeled Donovan Mansion had become a landmark building in Star City!
Star City’s residents took pride in entering this office building.
"Such a big change."
Nelson stood at the entrance, somewhat wistfully remarking, "When I left, the doors here were still old-fashioned. And now, they’ve turned into modern automatic doors."
Many years since her last visit, it was a nostalgic return.
She was filled with great emotion.
Thinking she would see Dawson Carmichael soon, Nelson pulled out her sword and glanced at her reflection.
Clang!
Longsword was sheathed back.
"Miss, you cannot enter."
Before she could approach the automated door, a security guard promptly came over and stopped her.
"I’m sorry, you’re not an employee of our Donovan Corporation," the guard said politely.
"How do you know I’m not?" Nelson didn’t get angry; strictly speaking, this was also her home.
"Our Donovan Corporation employees wear a highly unified outfit while working. You’re dressed too luxuriously. If you are here to discuss business, I can notify someone. Rules are rules, I’m sorry." The guard spoke sternly.
The Donovan Corporation, Star City’s largest, venerable wealthy clan.
Strict rules, immaculate attire.
Especially since Finnegan Springs took charge, the corporate image was emphasized even more.
Employees wore uniforms to work, each bearing a name badge.
The name badge was their pass.
At the same time, it was a symbol of their identity.
Finnegan Springs once said at a staff meeting that he wanted the people of Star City to take pride in the Donovan Corporation!
Without a uniform and without a name badge, Nelson was naturally recognized as not an employee of the Donovan Corporation.
"Could you please inform them that I’m Nelson, your chairman Dawson Carmichael’s daughter?"
Facing the guard’s blockade, Nelson wasn’t annoyed at all but actually quite pleased.
"My mother runs the company very strictly; even I can’t get in."
She looked at Julius Reed with a smile, her eyes filled with anticipation.
"I’m sorry."
Hearing Nelson’s words, the guard inwardly cursed calling her a lunatic, but he still patiently explained, "No matter who you are, I can only let you in if I receive a call from the chairman. If your mother is Dawson Carmichael, please give her a call."
Nelson didn’t know that Dawson Carmichael had been reduced to sweeping the courtyard.
She still believed her mother was inside the office building, controlling everything.
Of course, Julius Reed didn’t say a word.
Some things are better left unsaid.
"But..." Nelson began anxiously, "I lost contact with my mother a year ago. She might have changed her phone number. Could you help me notify her, please?"
"I’m really sorry!"
The guard looked troubled: "It’s the rule; we’re just following orders, please don’t make this difficult for me..."
Before he could finish, the guard’s eyes lit up.
"Just send the message, and this Rolex is your reward. You know, someone of my status wanting to see your chairman wouldn’t be without cause."
Julius Reed tossed the Rolex to the guard: "Much obliged."
"Please wait!"
The guard hesitated, then thought Julius Reed made a lot of sense.
He couldn’t afford to obstruct someone who might be a godsend.
After saying this, he picked up the phone: "I’m the gatekeeper. Someone claims to be the daughter of the Donovan chairman, named Nelson."
"Yes!"
After that, the guard’s face drastically changed!
"Please come in! The chairman is waiting for you."
He wiped the sweat from his forehead and said apologetically with a smile, "I had no idea it was you..."
"No worries."
Julius Reed nodded and entered with Nelson.
"You’ve had to pay again." Nelson turned around, snatching back the Rolex.
She also gave the guard a disdainful look.
"The joy of being rich lies in the act of losing, doesn’t it?" Julius Reed waved his hand and said with a light smile, "Come on, let’s go see your foster mother."
