Julia took a deep breath, attempting to remain calm, and began, "We’re here for two reasons only."
Daniel interrupted her, saying, "The first is to check if I’ve opened the Life Gate."
"The second is to evaluate my character, to see if I’m fit to join the Investigation Bureau and become a formalized Evolver, right?"
Daniel continued with a serene tone, "I can answer you now. First, I’ve opened the Life Gate, and second, I have no interest in joining your Investigation Bureau."
Julia found it harder to maintain her composure.
The words Daniel spoke were identical to what she had formulated in her mind!
Could it be just a coincidence?
Julia looked intently at Daniel, pressing on, "How do you know all of this?"
"Our names, our background, even our objectives—how do you know it all?"
Daniel took a moment to blow on his coffee to cool it, took a sip, then placed the cup down and replied softly, "I’ve seen the future."
For a split second, a tidal wave of shock and surprise surged within both Julia and Mike.
He really could foresee the future!
Though astounded, Julia still harbored many doubts.
She knew that once a precognition ability is confirmed, it would be given high priority by headquarters, possibly even warranting an allocation of significant resources.
Pretending to have such high-level abilities wasn’t uncommon.
Julia challenged, "How can you prove you can see the future?"
Daniel looked at the pair and stated, "Your ability is lightning, and his is healing."
Julia responded with a smirk, "Many people know that. It’s no secret and easy to find out."
Daniel fixed his gaze on Julia, a little surprised at her meticulous skepticism.
Despite revealing so much insider information, she still retained her doubts.
It seemed he’d have to offer more concrete proof.
Daniel pointed at the ceiling, "Can you see them?"
Julia and Mike, puzzled, followed Daniel’s finger but saw nothing.
Just as they were wondering, Daniel whispered a mysterious incantation.
The next moment, three bats appeared out of thin air.
Mike gasped in shock, "Monsters?!"
Julia turned around to find Daniel, only to discover he was hiding far behind a cabinet.
She glared at him intently, demanding, "Daniel, who the hell are you?"
"Why can you summon Cthulhu-like creatures?"
In the next second, the three bats bared their razor-sharp teeth and lunged at Julia and Mike with breakneck speed.
Mike was famous for his healing abilities and wasn’t much of a fighter.
Julia was aware of this and quickly stepped in front of Mike, a silver-white bolt of lightning forming in her hand, giving off a piercing shriek.
Crackle!
The lightning bolt shot out rapidly.
The room’s lights flickered, and the path it took left a brief trace of charred blackness—its immense power evident.
The bolt exploded right between the bats, emitting a blinding flash.
Julia smirked, "Just trash."
But when the brilliance of the lightning faded, Julia’s expression turned to stone.
The three bats were completely unscathed!
Mike was in disbelief, "How could this be?"
He knew of Julia’s strength—among Level-2 Evolvers, she was unparalleled.
Her most potent attack had no effect on these bats.
Could these seemingly unassuming bats be at a B-level threat?
Mike and Julia turned to flee, but it was too late.
With a swift slice from the bat’s teeth, their heads fell as easily as slicing through tofu, the wound on their necks smooth as glass.
Seeing them fall, Daniel quickly emerged, rummaging through their belongings and even stripping them of their clothes, examining their bare bodies closely.
As the bats lunged at Daniel, he offered no resistance, allowing their teeth to sever his head.
The scene shattered like broken glass, scattering everywhere, only to magically piece itself back together.
Daniel sat up in bed, glancing at the time—it was 3:30 am.
The same time he’d woken up previously.
He sat in front of his computer, accessing the dark web to find the Evolver forum.
Quickly navigating to where he left off, he continued reading until seven in the morning.
This time, he didn’t order breakfast, just sat on the sofa waiting.
Soon, there was a knock at the door.
As before, Daniel greeted, "Mike, Julia? Come in."
Just like the last time, Mike and Julia outside the door were greatly taken aback.
Their subsequent reactions and words were unchanged.
Until Julia questioned again, "Many people know about this stuff; it’s not hard to get such information."
"Daniel, if you can’t prove your capabilities, I have every reason to believe you’re trying to mislead the Investigation Bureau personnel, with ulterior motives in mind!"
Daniel calmly set down his coffee cup, his gaze shifting to Mike, "You have feelings for Julia, and you’re planning to confess to her on her birthday next week. You’ve even booked the most luxurious restaurant and prepared a sports car worth 500,000 StellarCoins as a birthday gift to surprise her."
Mike sprang to his feet, his face flushed with anger and embarrassment as if a secret had been exposed, stammering, "You... you... you’re making things up!"
But was Daniel truly making things up?
Mike knew he wasn’t because the car’s purchase receipt was still in his pocket, and a confirmation text for a reservation at the Cherie Sky Restaurant was on his phone.
Julia glanced at Mike, making an approximate judgment in her mind.
She motioned for Mike to sit, then turned to Daniel, "Many people have feelings for me, and a lot know that Mike likes me. As for the restaurant reservation and the car..."
Her gaze shifted to Mike, awaiting his response.
Mike, face reddening, mumbled, "I... I indeed prepared those."
Julia was taken aback.
It turned out that what Daniel said was true.
Did he foresee it, or had he known about it beforehand?
That’s not right!
Julia spun around to face Daniel, stating sternly, "This doesn’t prove that you can predict the future, because all these things were prepared by Mike in the past. They’re past events!"
Logically speaking, Julia was spot on.
Daniel sighed, looking at her and said, "There’s another matter concerning you, Miss Julia. I’m just not sure whether it’s appropriate to mention it."
Reading through Daniel’s ruse, Julia responded confidently, "Go ahead and say it!"
A peculiar gleam appeared in Daniel’s eyes, "Miss Julia, you had a wild past, with tastes that deviated from the norm. Some might even call it outrageous. The evidence? A ’Succubus Pattern’ tattooed below, which signifies extreme lasciviousness."
Boom!
Before he could finish, bright arcs of silver electricity burst forth from Julia’s fair hand, intensifying into fierce lightning aimed directly at Daniel.
Fuming with rage, she glared at Daniel, "That’s still about the past! You’re clearly not foreseeing the future!"
The explosive flash of lightning streaked across the air.
Daniel quickly stood up, effortlessly dodging the blast, but the sofa was instantly reduced to smoldering cinders, filling the room with an acrid smell.
Standing aside, Daniel remarked calmly, "Foreseeing the future doesn’t mean knowing everything."
"I simply foresaw this morning that you both would come knocking on my door. So, I exerted my power to get insights into both of you."
"That’s when I saw his invitation to you, and the image of you undressing, revealing the ’Succubus Pattern’."
Mike couldn’t care less about this ’Succubus Pattern’.
What he clung onto was Daniel’s implication that after he invited Julia, there was an image of her undressing.
Did this mean there was some intimate involvement between him and Julia?
Excitement clearly painted his face, and a particular part of him even slightly stirred.
Julia glanced at Mike, then with fiery eyes, she lashed out at Daniel, "You’re full of crap!"
"Even if I agreed to go out with Mike, it would just be out of courtesy as colleagues. But I would never, ever get involved with him in that way!"
Daniel, unfazed, replied, "I only see fragments of events. I never said you undressed specifically for him. Maybe it was for another man."
Hearing this, Mike’s excitement immediately waned.
Julia’s face turned even redder as she yelled, "Watch your mouth, or you’ll regret it!"
The insinuation of her being with ’another man’ infuriated her!
Perhaps she was like that in the past, but ever since she became an ’Evolver’, she’d dedicated herself to the future of humanity, focusing solely on enhancing her powers.
No man had since captured her heart.
Yet, recalling her long celibate period and hearing Daniel’s words, Julia harbored a secret hope.
If Daniel truly could foresee, would she soon meet a man who could genuinely move her heart?
If that were true, it would be wonderful!
