Chapter 303: Chapter 144 The World Becomes Vibrant Because of You
The station chief’s head swelled an entire size larger from the back and forth between Su Huai and Gu Jiuyue.
"What do you think this place is?!"
An excited Su Huai chimed in, "Right, it’s outrageous, lock them up, lock them up!"
Gu Jiuyue snapped her bulingbuling big eyes expectantly at the station chief, even pressing her hands together in a pleading gesture.
The louder the station chief’s scolding was, the more pathetic his retreat became.
Stepping outside, he pulled Wu aside and negotiated amiably, "Ms. Wu, since those two kids aren’t involved, shall I send someone to take them back?"
Wu didn’t understand: "What’s wrong with them? Can’t they stay in the office?"
"It’s..."
The station chief force a wry smile: She complained that the office was boring and wanted to play house in the detention room...
Andy came out and clarified the situation, leaving Wu amused and bemused, but she definitely doted on her young lady.
"Never mind, if she doesn’t want to go back, let her stay, when is someone from the embassy across the street coming over?"
"Why do you have to clash with the embassy... Can I work on it, and you all discuss it further?"
"No room for discussion, we follow the employer’s wishes."
The station chief felt like he’d run into a lifetime of bad luck. How did he come across such a bunch of idle women with nothing better to do?
It made him pull at his hair in distress.
In facing criminals, the public security bureau was a top-tier violent institution.
But when dealing with domestic disputes, it was a basic, neutral institution with limited mediation ability, often caught in a bind.
Especially when dealing with the elderly or children, the situation was particularly intractable.
Like those elders dancing in the squares and disturbing the peace; it’s not that the officers didn’t care, but they could only offer verbal criticism and education due to their lack of authority—they did not have a tradition of drawing guns on the general populace.
The current situation was more complex than usual neighborhood disputes.
Gu Jiuyue was the daughter of a wealthy magnate, with an embassy as backing across the street; both sides were complicated. The situation itself wasn’t severe, and couldn’t be resolved through regulations and official procedures.
So what was he to do?
Endure it!
The station chief held the fort, while public security officers tried to mediate, passing the time with both parties.
During this time, Wu received a call from Gu Tongshu.
"What’s going on?"
Wu succinctly summarized the main points: "A few drunk idiots tried to approach the young lady; we chased them away without really needing weapons. The young lady is in fine spirits; we’re at the public security bureau, and she’s having a great time and doesn’t want to leave. She wants to wait for the outcome, and Andy will take her back to the villa when it’s time to rest."
"Yueyue is having fun?"
Gu Tongshu didn’t care about whether any of those idiots got beaten or not. The wellbeing of ten of them wasn’t as important as Gu Jiuyue cracking a smile.
Wu stepped back and peeked at the young lady, who was jibber-jabbering with Su, unusually talkative and lively, then firmly responded, "Very happy."
"Then take your time dealing with it; follow her wishes," Gu Tongshu’s voice relaxed, indicating his excellent mood.
But the next second, he suddenly realized, "Yueyue is with that Su kid?!"
"Yes."
Wu nodded while covering her mouth.
With Mr. Gu’s memory, he would have recalled all Su Huai’s details by now. His reference to "that Su something" showed how angry he was.
"Keep a close eye on him!"
Faced with the boss’s raised tone, Wu calmly replied, "I’m on it at all times, Mr. Gu, do I need to step up vigilance?"
"Uh..."
Gu Tongshu suddenly got stuck at her question.
Vigilance was a good question, but also one that left him with a lump in his throat, unable to answer the damned question.
If it were up to him, Gu Tongshu would want Su Huai to disappear from his daughter’s sight immediately, not showing his face for even a second—if he dared show up, his legs would be broken.
But there was no choice. Su Huai was Gu Jiuyue’s class leader, approved as her best companion by her mother-in-law, and her only window out of social withdrawal.
Not wanting them to interact?
Was that even a question?
"Forget it... maintain the same level. Is that kid behaving?"
Wu spoke unhurriedly, "He’s quite measured, but the young lady is rather proactive..."
"..."
There was sudden silence from the other end of the phone, punctuated by heavy breathing.
Wu was only a driver, bodyguard, and travel manager—not exactly an elder to Gu Jiuyue. Yet, in that moment, she still couldn’t help but indulge in an unabashed laugh internally—from an elder’s perspective.
Everybody has their guilty pleasures, and Wu’s was watching Mr. Gu and little Su get jealous of each other; it was too amusing.
But what she failed to realize was that as she found joy in Mr. Gu’s distress, it meant she had accepted the possibility of Su Huai and Gu Jiuyue continuing to develop their relationship.
Because Gu Jiuyue liked him, so did she.
Little Su was such a good kid...
Unfortunately, Gu Tongshu didn’t think the same.
"Yueyue has improved a lot. In your opinion, does she have the potential to make close female friends?"
No chance.
Not everyone could be recognized as her friend, and gender had little to do with it.
That’s what Wu thought, but she answered cautiously, "I can’t be certain, Mr. Gu. I’m not a psychology expert. I can only relay what I see with my own eyes."
"..."
Gu Tongshu went silent again for a bit, then, as if struggling with something, reluctantly asked, "What have you seen?"
"The young lady’s mood recently has been unprecedentedly good."
"Sigh..."
Gu Tongshu released a long breath quietly, but emotionally, it didn’t sound like relief; it sounded more like helpless resignation.
