Chapter 101: _ Aceco’s Cabin

The outskirts of the pack territory were a stark contrast to the bustling pack center. Rolling hills dotted with ancient trees stretched out as far as the eye could see. The air was filled with the scent of pine and damp earth.

It was a welcome change from the exhaust fumes of the pack. They continued their journey for what felt like an eternity, the car steering through a network of barely visible dirt roads.

Finally, they reached a clearing nestled amidst a dense cluster of trees. A single and unassuming cabin stood at the center, its weathered wood blending seamlessly with the surrounding forest.

This was Aceco’s haven, a place shrouded in secrecy. They had made sure Aceco kept her distance from the pack and out of reach. Her services would only be sought in dire situations.

Just like this one.

The car came to a stop, kicking up a cloud of dust. Rhett stepped out even before the Alpha and Beta could, his eyes taking in the scene.

The cabin was small but sturdy and its windows were dark and reflecting the fading sunlight.

An unsettling silence was in the air. It was mostly only interrupted by the distant chirping of birds.

Beowulf and Darius also finally emerged from the car. Right now, they were all placing their trust in a creature of outside of their territory.

It was a gamble they had no other choice but to take.

With a deep breath, Rhett followed the Alpha and Beta towards the cabin. He didn’t know what awaited them inside, but one thing was certain – their encounter with Aceco would be a huge lead in this ongoing investigation.

Rhett quickened his pace, his shoes crunching on the dusty ground as he followed the Alpha and Beta toward the cabin. Darius – as the braggart that he took the lead with a smirk on his lips like he was the one whom Aceco needed to meet first before them.

Rhett couldn’t help but scoff at how forward the dipshit was.

Just as Darius reached for the weathered doorknob, a sudden unseen force slammed into his head with a resounding whack. Darius yelped, stumbling backward with a cartoonish bounce.

OH!

Rhett barked out a laugh he couldn’t hold back. Serves him right; he thought internally. Even a fool would know better than approaching Aceco’s cabin like that.

Darius shot him a venomous glare, but Rhett ignored it. To further provoke Darius, he laughed even harder.

Darius spun on him, his face contorted in fury. "What’s so funny, Gamma?" he snarled.

Rhett sent him a nonchalant glance before completely ignoring Darius’s confrontation. Who was he to question him? He was but a useless clown hiding behind the easily manipulative Alpha.

"Even a child would know that Aceco’s haven isn’t so easily accessible," Rhett remarked instead, the smirk on his face ever so undying.

Beowulf cleared his throat, his gaze flitting between them. "Be more careful, Darius," he said mildly. "Aceco’s wards wouldn’t be here if they didn’t serve a purpose."

Darius scowled. "I know that, Alpha," he grumbled, rubbing his head. "Just wanted to see how strong it was."

Rhett scoffed.

He wanted to see how strong it was, huh? How strong a veil was?

That’s absurd. He knew Darius was lying, trying to save face. But Rhett kept his thoughts to himself, focusing on the task at hand.

"Okay, okay," Beowulf said. "Time to get serious." He frowned, his gaze traveling to the veiled cabin. "But how do we gain entry?"

Just then, the cabin door creaked open, revealing a figure standing silhouetted against the soft glow emanating from within. As the figure stepped forward, Rhett felt a jolt of awe.

It was Aceco.

Even after their previous encounters, she never failed to take his breath away. Her appearance was ethereal, her soft features were framed by cascading silver hair that seemed to shimmer with an inner light.

She wore a flowing white garment that draped around her slender frame, its wispy fabric seeming to defy gravity with the way it twirled around her. Each fold shimmered with an otherworldly luminescence as she moved.

A gentle smile graced her lips when she glanced upon them. Despite her youthful appearance, her aura held the wisdom of centuries.

Rhett felt a surge of respect washed over him. He had never met anyone like Aceco. He wouldn’t wait to meet the other powerful pure creatures out there.

She raised her hands, and a soft breeze ruffled their hair. Then, spreading her arms wide, she spoke in a voice that resounded with a fragile power. "Welcome, Alpha Beowulf, Beta Darius, and Gamma Rhett. The veil has been lifted. You may now enter."

This was it.

Relief washed over them as they stepped forward, crossing the threshold. Aceco turned to close the doorway, the luminous veil shimmering back into place behind them. But before she could shut it completely, a dark figure came crashing out of the nearby bushes. It landed in a heap at their feet, groaning in pain.

Rhett’s hand instinctively flew to his gun, his heart hammering in his chest.

A vampire?

Had they been betrayed?

Did someone disclose their plans to come see Aceco already?

Beowulf let out a sharp breath and his eyes widened in shock. "A vampire?" he hissed, drawing his own weapon.

However, when they finally got a good look at the creature, realization dawned on Rhett as his brows furrowed.

"A peculiar?" Aceco had already blurted, further affirming Rhett’s suspicion. "It’s wounded." 𝑛𝘰𝘷𝑝𝘶𝑏.𝑐𝘰𝘮

Next thing Rhett knew, the groaning animal that resembled a feline began to float to Aceco. She picked it up with ease and wrapped it around her body.

Rhett almost screamed to stop her. Her attires were too pristine to be blemished by that dirty animal.

"Y– you know what that thing is?" Darius blurted out with deep lines appearing between his brows.

The look Aceco shot him almost made Rhett sprawl on the floor with laughter.
