Chapter 109: _ Time to die, Isleen
"Come with me. Hold yourselves hard. Don’t let go, okay?" I whispered to them, cold sweat prickling down my face.
The children were petrified. The tears streaming down their eyes were relentless. I hated seeing kids like this.
Why?
Why had the vampires chosen such a dark path filled with violence and bloodshed?
I needed to be strong. If I couldn’t be physically strong right now, I should be emotionally strong for these kids. I wiped off my sweet and I took their hands and began to lead them to the shield.
From the left, a vampire lunged at us. I wanted to protect us but that meant dropping the children which definitely was a bad idea. They might sprint away in fear, which also wouldn’t end well for them.
Next thing I knew, the female vampire with blood dripping from her mouth and chest grabbed my throat, choking me.
I refused to let go of the kids even as I began to lose the air. My legs also started to tremble, jerking with survival instincts.
"Look at you..." the vampire chuckled sinisterly. "You could have saved yourself, but you chose to save these..." She glanced at the kids who firmed their grip on my hands. "These little things. Why do you think we vampires are stronger than every other being? Because we can’t reproduce. We don’t have these little burdens disrupting our plans, and making us weak." She spat.
I scoffed with every last ounce of strength in me. "You’re just jealous that you are a barren, bitch!" I spat back at her.
"Ahhhhhh!" She yelled with fury, totally pissed by my words. "Now, watch me dig that womb of yours out of you!" She hollered and removed one of her hands from my neck.
Oh, no.
No. No. No.
She wasn’t about to...
She was about to, but unbeknownst to her, someone was right behind us. Someone who’d protect me at all costs.
The snapping of her neck was what I heard first before I heard the squelching of her heart being ripped at.
My Mate!
"Not if I dig out your heart first." He hissed as he threw her darkened heart on the floor, his hand dripping off her blood.
I had never been happier to see Gamma Rhett my whole life. If it weren’t for the chaos around us, I swear, I’d have jumped into his arms right now and buried my face into them.
A genuine smile of gratitude spread across my face. "G–gamma Rhett," I whispered.
"Go." He merely barked at me before turning away from me. "Arrrrrhhhhh!" A loud growl erupted from him as he spread his hands around him, chest puffed off out in raw and sheer fury.
I had never seen him this angry. I had never seen him in action. Unlike the other wolves who were fighting in their wolf form, Gamma Rhett charged at the vampires with just his claws.
My mouth popped open in awe. Even more now, I respect this man. Just how powerful was he?
Thankfully, the pack soldiers from every outpost had arrived at the scene in time, joining the fight along with Gamma Rhett. They bellowed at everyone.
"Get the children to safety! We’ll handle this!"
With Gamma Rhett around? I bet they would.
With a smile on my face, I hurried the kids to the three fey – mainly three fairies who kept the shield open while the other fey - a mixture of fairies and elves stood around to protect them.
But soon, my smile disappeared. Right about after I got the twins into the shield, the sheer number of vampires was overwhelming. The vampires seemed to multiply with each fallen pack member.
More wolves were Forced to shift back to protect their loved ones. Now, everyone was running to get to almost all of the children around into the shield.
Many wolves found themselves vulnerable, easy prey for the relentless attackers in the human forms but we couldn’t allow children to be a casualty in this war.
The vampires were too evil to care about the age of their victims and like I said, they came prepared.
They moved like a relentless tide, their dark eyes gleaming with a feral hunger. As the wolves were forced back, protecting their families and homes, more vampires materialized from the shadows, their numbers seemingly multiplying with each passing moment.
Worse, houses began to erupt in flames. It seemed the vampires were here to finally end the Ravenwood pack on this night.
More wolves had to shift back, their human forms needed to battle the blaze and protect their loved ones from the inferno – even some pack soldiers.
Injured wolves snarled at the vampires even as they reverted back to their human forms. We were all fighters.
The unwavering courage was beautiful. I was scarcely attacked as I made my way home because Kylo was tagging along, protecting me. It seemed he had been caught in the fight when that bitchy vampire got me earlier.
As for Gamma Rhett, he was deep into the fight now. Blinded with rage and only slaying and slaying relentlessly.
All I could think about was Liam, alone and scared in our apartment with Cullen – if it too wasn’t burning down like the others. I had to get to my son.
Tears streamed down my face, blurring my vision as I stumbled towards the direction of my house. The run was going on well and I had Kylo and Lupe who were still in their wolf form, protecting and paving the way for me, until...
Suddenly, a sickening bang echoed through the air. I turned to find Kylo, locked in a brutal struggle with a particularly vicious vampire, cried out in pain.
"KYLO!" I screamed at the top of my voice, my hands trembling to see him in such a state.
His human form slumped to the ground with a bloody hand clutching his shoulder. Kylo had fallen.
"No, no. No!" I bellowed, rushing to him.
Lupe was closer and had witnessed his fall. She let out a heart-wrenching howl and broke free from her own fight, racing towards Kylo.
But she too was intercepted by another hulking vampire, his eyes filled with a predatory gleam.
Trapped between who to run to first, I watched in horror as the scene unfolded before me. My body ached to help, to fight alongside them, but I was lost as to who to help first.
Was it Kylo my ex-boyfriend whose Dad I was mated to or Lupe who was my friend or my son...
My son was still so young. So innocent and so vulnerable.
Then, "Isleen!" Kylo gasped, his voice hoarse with pain as blood gushed out of his mouth. "Get... to Liam... now!"
I shook my head, sobbing as I saw the vampire who had taken him down stand over him. I should interfere, help him but an image of a vampire hovering over Liam flashed in my eyes.
That – made me choose Liam over the two of them. Somehow, Kylo would survive. I knew he would.
Tears streamed down my face as I turned towards the direction of our house to find it burning.
I could see the apartment complex on fire from where I stood.
"No! Please, no!" I quickened my pace and began to run further.
But just as I took a step, a dark shape loomed over me.
Oh, God no.
It was a vampire with red eyes glowing with predatory hunger. It snarled, revealing a mouth full of razor-sharp teeth. I screamed, bracing myself for the inevitable attack and perhaps, a chance at defense.
The Moon Goddess might have chosen this time to punish me with my omega status but I wouldn’t go down that easily without a fight.
It lurched at me but I dodged, giving it a kick in his weak spot – his balls.
"You’ll regret doing that!" He moaned and gave me an even harder kick in the stomach.
It was my turn to groan out in pain. "Ahhhhh!"
My scream, however, died in my throat as he grabbed me and his cold, skeletal fingers dug into my flesh.
This was it, Isleen; I thought. Kylo was down, Lupe. Gamma Rhett was too busy saving so many people to concentrate on protecting me.
This was the time to die.
So, I shut my eyes as he raised his hands and dived it right inside my chest.
