Chapter 114: _ What’s Next?
The soldiers lowered me gently under the shade, my gaze stubbornly fixed on a patch of scorched earth. I’d look anywhere but towards Gamma Rhett, who stood a few paces beside Aceco.
I wouldn’t know if he was looking at me but I think he was. It was almost like I could feel his gaze on me even though I didn’t dare to look at him. I felt like an awful person thinking about him only when our pack had just suffered so much loss.
Right now, I wondered what would become of our pack. It was obvious we weren’t safe here anymore as the vampires now had free passage to orchestrate their ambush.
"Isleen, you’ll be okay," Kylo reassured me with his lips strapped together. "Aceco will fix you right up."
Lupe leaned in conspiratorially. "Gamma Rhett used his pull to get us treated first," she whispered and winked at me.
Argh - Gosh.
Lupe!
Why wink at me suspiciously like that? What if Kylo caught it and got suspicious?
To cover up her silliness, I offered them a weak smile and slapped her hands off me after giving her a hard sign language. The soldiers dropped me in front of Aceco afterward and left me in her care.
Or maybe it was safe to say Gamma Rhett’s and Aceco’s care.
His scent was like a hard drug, sending me into a voltage of wants and desires. What was this man and his hold on me?
Trust my wolf to betray me at times like this. I was supposed to feel my usual irk for her reactions to Gamma Rhett but feeling her once again took that from me.
Right now, I was only genuinely happy to know that I was a wolf once again. Back then, on the battlefield when I couldn’t feel her anymore, I almost felt - human.
However, when Aceco sent me a gentle smile, o felt a surge of awe. Up close, the Healer Fairy was even more breathtaking than I had imagined. Unlike the warriors around me, she seemed untouched by the battle. Her gossamer wings shimmered faintly in the distant moonlight peering their way through the cracks in the roof of the shade.
If the healer fairy was this graceful, I wondered just what the other high-ranked fairy would be like or the Fairy Queen herself.
"Isleen, isn’t it?" she said, her voice like tinkling bells. "Let me see that wound."
W- what?
She knew my name? How?
She saw the question splitting my face into two and helped me out.
"I overheard your friend calling you that."
Oh, she wasn’t only graceful but so nice and cool too! Whoever created the fey beings created them close to perfection.
I obliged her request and extended my arm. Her touch was cool and comforting as she traced the gash on my chest with her fingertips.
A soft silver light emanated from her hand, and within seconds, the pain that had been a constant companion on my chest vanished. The wound closed up like it was never there. It was like when we healed but I had never seen a healing process that fast!
I gasped, feeling a surge of energy flows through me. And then, she was done.
"There you go," Aceco said, her smile widening. "All healed."
I scrambled to my feet, marveling at the speed and efficiency of her magic. "That’s –amazing," I stammered. "Thank you, Aceco."
To my surprise, Aceco reached up and brushed a stray strand of hair from my face. "I do sense a peculiar residue on you. A faint scent of celestial magic. Magic is my blood, so I can sometimes be drawn to it, pardon me."
My heart skipped a beat. First, it was by her touch, and then, magic?!
Hold up...
The dream. The Moon Goddess. Could Aceco have sensed it too?
Perhaps, if I admitted and spoke about it, Aceco might just be able to tell me who that strange woman was. But the Moon Goddess was my wild guess.
"Yes," I stammered, "I– I dreamt of a woman. Beautiful, with an aura unlike anything I’ve ever seen. She..."
My voice trailed off as a hand clamped down on my arm. I whipped my head around to find Gamma Rhett staring at me with a look that I couldn’t quite place.
"A woman?" he growled, gulping. "Where?"
Huh?
What was his deal exactly grabbing me like that? What was my own problem for flinching sensually to such an aggressive grip from him?
Yet, the sudden change in him startled me. I was about to reply to him
When Kylo placed a hand on his father’s shoulder, gnashing his teeth.
"Dad, let go of her."
Oh, poor Kylo. Look at him, protecting me from his father’s hold, thinking I was being hated by his father when in fact, I was desired by my boyfriend or ex-boyfriend’s Dad like I was oxygen.
Rhett coughed faintly after Kylo’s interjection, his grip slackening as if he had just woken from a daze. He released me.
I saw no sign of remorse in his eyes, that man. I’d never seen a more arrogant, rude responsible, and accountable man like himself.
Just how could one person be all shades of good and bad at the same time?
I had no idea why I suddenly wanted to have his attention once again. "It was just a dream, Gamma Rhett," I offered. "I saw this woman in my subconscious while I was unconscious."
He turned his neck back to me, squinted his eyes, sniffed shortly, and nodded. "You all should leave now. The queue won’t be here forever."
Argh.
He was a bloody rude son of a GUN!
"Thank you, Aceco," Kylo said, eager to ’save’ me from his father’s presence breaking the silence. "We appreciate you taking care of us. Hoping for a speedy recovery for everyone else here."
If only you knew that I didn’t want to be saved, Kylo. I wanted to drown in your dad’s presence and never die.
Father forgive me for I have sinned.
Aceco nodded with a smile. "Of course."
We all offered our good wishes to the injured as a somber settling amongst us while we walked out.
At least, we could walk on our feet again; I, Lupe, and Kylo.
The inky blackness of the night gave an even creepier feel to the streets and roads still bathed in clogged and dried blood. Thankfully, the soldiers were done clearing all the bodies.
What was left was the blood and ashes of the fallen vampires. And those? The Vampire ashes?
We’d step on them on our roads as a testament to our survival. We faced a severe attack from about two hundred vampires and we won. We, the Ravenwood Keeper’s pack along with the fey beings fought and won.
What was coming after this was, however, bleak?
"What next now?" I heard Lupe sigh beside me.
Yeah, right. What was next?
