Chapter 124: _ To Feed On Cullen Or Not?
Fergus
~~
After Kylo dropped the call about Isleen and her dumb friend being arrested, he began to tremble in a way that irked Fergus.
A vein throbbed in Kylo’s temple. "We need to go. Isleen and Lupe are at the station. We have to bail them out."
Cullen’s face crumpled like a discarded napkin. "What? Why? What did they do?"
At that moment, Fergus wondered if the pack soldiers tortured their captives. If they did, he’d be very happy if they tortured Isleen and Lupe for him for vowing and raining curses at Lupe’s mother’s killer earlier.
And then, later, after the soldiers had beaten Isleen up, he’d hunt them down one by one and feed on them.
Ah– the mere thought of it alone was making his throat dry. He needed to feed. He was hungry. Hella hungry.
"Don’t know," Kylo snapped, already digging in his pockets for keys. "Don’t care right now. We just need to go get them."
"But—" Cullen stammered. "We can’t both leave. Someone needs to stay with Liam. We can’t bring him out at this time of night, it’s not safe."
Kylo stopped, his hand hovering on the doorknob. "Liam will be fine," he said dismissively. "Just get him settled back in bed."
He’d bite the hands of someone who wasn’t Isleen and her small boobs putting him to bed; Fergus thought to himself. What were these two clowns talking about putting him to bed?
What the fuck? He hated this part of his mission most especially. Oh, he was hungry.
When Cullen didn’t answer, Kylo continued. "It’s a few nights to the full moon, Cullen. Have you forgotten? Everyone will be out celebrating. The town will be practically bustling with people. There’s no danger tonight."
Now, Fergus wished there’d be danger. He knew they were planning major attacks on the wolves and scheduled for when they’d have their guards dropped. He really hoped this night was picked as the one as he couldn’t contain his hunger and thirst for blood any longer.
"Full moon ritual or not," Cullen mumbled, clearly uninterested, "I don’t fancy being dragged into another one of those. Just go bail Isleen and Lupe out already, would you?"
Kylo eyed him suspiciously but shrugged, muttering something under his breath about Cullen’s forgetfulness. "Alright, alright. I’ll be right back." With that, he was out the door, leaving a bewildered Cullen and a mischievous Fergus behind.
Fergus swallowed down hard. He’d been wishing he could have Cullen’s blood already, and now that they were all alone, he wondered if he should just take it already.
But if he did that now, Isleen might miss him. Not to mention he wanted to ruin Cullen and Isleen’s friendship before killing him. That way, he’d be able to make his target as miserable as ever.
Cullen slumped onto the couch, unbeknownst to him that he was left alone with his death, and let out a defeated sigh. "Well, that leaves just us then, Liam."
Fergus, still maintaining his innocent facade, feigned a yawn. "Yeah, guess so. I’m pretty tired. Mind if I head back to bed?"
Perhaps, if he pretended he was going to go to bed, he could sneak out and hunt. If otherwise, he’d definitely feed on Cullen.
However, it seemed the guy’s doom was attractive to him as Cullen’s hand shot out, grabbing Fergus’s arm with strength.
Fergus yelped in– a somewhat exaggerated surprise. "Whoa there, Cullen! What gives?"
Cullen’s grip, however, tightened with his eyes narrowed. "Don’t play dumb with me, Liam. You might have fooled Kylo with that whole oblivious-sleeping act, but you can’t fool me. Smart kid like you, don’t think I didn’t know you might have eavesdropped on everything Kylo and I said."
Here it comes, Fergus thought, a cruel smile twitching at the corner of his lips hidden beneath the pretense of sleep. He decided to have a little fun.
"Everything about what?" Fergus feigned ignorance, batting his eyelashes for effect.
He knew it would grate on Cullen, and frankly, the thought of it brought him a kind of amusement. He just loved to fool these people and enjoyed how much they bought it.
Cullen’s grip tightened on his hand. "Don’t play dumb with me, Liam. You’re a smart kid, I know that. So don’t think you can pull that wool over my eyes."
Fergus’s internal eye roll was epic. If Cullen only knew what he was doing. He decided he wouldn’t take Cullen’s shut tonight. He might as well be himself for a few minutes.
Let’s see if the carefree Cullen knew how to fear for his dear life.
"So what?" he mumbled in a child-like voice, batting his eyelashes innocently. "I just overheard you and Kylo talking about... uh... being intimate? Was it– what was it again? Sex? And oh... spying on Isleen? Big whoop!" He clicked his fingers.
That sent Cullen’s annoyance in every corner awake. He shoved Fergus back with surprising force, sending the smaller figure tumbling across the room in a display that would have been funny if not for the dark threat hanging in the atmosphere.
"Don’t get smart with me, you little—" Cullen snarled, striding towards Fergus with a menacing glint in his eyes.
Fergus, despite wanting to unleash his full strength and send Cullen flying across the room, simply slumped back dramatically, clutching his - nonexistent injured arm. "Whoa there, big guy! No need for violence. Especially against a helpless little kid like me."
Cullen loomed over him, looking nothing like the playful and carefree Cullen everyone knew. He might have a shapeshifting ability but everyone had that ability naturally– the ability to drastically change and become something or someone else if need be– Fergus thought.
"Don’t get smart with me, Liam." Cullen wouldn’t stop. "And listen very carefully to what I’m about to say. If you ever, ever tell Isleen what you heard, you won’t like the consequences. I’ll wake you up one morning, stuff you in a sack, and dump you in the middle of a very dark and scary woods and you’ll never see the light of day again. Trust me, you won’t like being all alone in that dark, creepy place."
Fergus tilted his head, slowly bursting into a peal of laughter. This foolish mortal, threatening him with a dark forest?
He, Fergus, Lord of the Shadows, who had spent centuries cavorting with evil and feasting on the nightmares of men? Cullen’s ignorance was boundless and somehow amusing.
Finally, he would enjoy his kill ever since he got here for the first time, Fergus thought to himself, happy to the core.
