Chapter 204: Drama On The First Day

Cullen laughed louder, drawing the curious stares of people walking by. Hastily, Kylo shoved his arm off his shoulder, glaring at him.

"What the heck is wrong with you dude?" Kylo’s voice came out as a whisper, his eyes darting around nervously.

Walking around with Cullen had always proved to be a daunting chore. He was so out and carefree, not caring about what people would think. But Kylo wasn’t that way at all.

Years of keeping his relationship with Isleen a secret had taught him that people would always have something to say, no matter how good a person was. He wasn’t sure he was ready to ’explore’ this side of his sexuality yet, especially not with someone like Cullen.

Probably noticing his apprehension, Cullen gave him a light push on the shoulder before speaking casually. "Oh, relax. To these people, we’re just two bros hanging out. You’re the only one giving it a deeper meaning."

Kylo only grunted in reply as they kept on walking. He would’ve loved to be left alone in his thoughts, but Cullen didn’t make that possible.

"Hey, you know we need to stick together at the camp, right? So, let’s try getting to know each other more." A smile crept on his face as he spoke, managing to give Kylo the creeps.

He glanced awkwardly at him before replying. "No thanks. I think I’ve ’gotten to know you’ far enough at this point."

Cullen didn’t take his words well and tried arguing with him. Kylo ignored him mostly until they finally reached outside the station.

There was already a crowd of people— all men of different ages—gathered there, talking and intermingling. Wolves, fairies, and elves were present in this orientation, though the fey made up only a small number of those present.

The two young men exchanged glances with each other before joining the crowd. Once they’d gotten into the crowd, Kylo tried getting an idea of what was happening.

"Excuse me." He tapped on a werewolf who looked like he was in his early forties. When the man turned to him, he went further with his question. "Good morning, sir. Please, do you have an idea of what’s going on? Why’re all the enlisters gathered here?"

The man squinted his eyes, looking at him suspiciously. But then realization dawned on his face as he nearly exclaimed. "Well, if it isn’t the Gamma’s son. How’s it been going with you?" 𝓃𝓸𝓋𝓅𝓾𝒷.𝒸ℴ𝓂

Kylo tried being polite with the man, smiling before he replied. "I’ve been fine, thanks."

After saying that, he pressed on with his previous question. The man nodded his head and explained.

"The Beta and Gamma said we should all wait here for them. There are still a few more finishing touches being made to our training camp." The man replied calmly.

Kylo frowned, as a thought crossed his mind. "But, I thought we’d be commencing training right here in the precinct?"

The man looked at him amusingly, but eventually shook his head. He answered his question patiently nonetheless. "And disrupt the normal activities of the officers? Nah, we need another space for our training. Probably a bigger space."

He nodded his understanding and thanked the man again.

Now he couldn’t help contemplating everything he’d learned so far. He tried to guess where the space for the training camp could be, but that was beyond him. He needed to gather more information, but he decided to wait for his father and the Beta to do that themselves.

Speaking of which, the annoying Beta was far more annoying than Kylo had imagined. Annoying and corrupt. Not a good combo when you’re a leader of a pack such as Raven Wood. His encounter with him during the screening for the enlistment had told him enough.

He knew the man would prove to be a pain in the ass throughout his stay here, but he’d have to learn how to tolerate him.

And now, speaking of pains in the ass, Cullen patted him on the back, almost causing him to trip. He groaned silently in frustration as the latter spoke cheerfully.

"Looks like our stay here is going to be quite adventurous." He said while licking his lips in a way that made Kylo’s skin crawl.

He shifted away from him and was about to scold him as usual when a commotion in the crowd interrupted him. Hold that thought.

"You fey don’t belong here. I don’t know why your kind was even told to enlist." A voice spoke with a tone brimming with pride and disdain. Kylo creased his brows when he heard the voice. He’d heard that voice before, but where?

Meanwhile, Cullen rubbed his palms with excitement before grabbing his arm. "See? We haven’t even gotten to the camp yet and there’s already drama. Come on, let’s go get a closer look."

Not waiting for his reply, he dragged Kylo off, pushing himself through the crowd to get to the source of the commotion. The latter just let him do that since he was also curious about what was happening.

They finally reached a spot in the crowd that’d been cleared, making way for the two people who were arguing. One was an elf and the other a wolf.

Kylo’s eyes bulged when he spotted the face of the wolf. Drach.

Lupe’s crappy mate who’d dared to lay his hands on Isleen. He gritted his teeth when he remembered the incident, as he felt the sudden urge to just walk up there and break the bastard’s jaw. The officers hadn’t allowed him to teach the moron a lesson the other day and now felt like the perfect opportunity.

However, he controlled himself, taking in a deep breath. It would be wise If he kept a low profile and avoided conflicts as much as possible. Especially since his father would be on his tail now more than ever, judging him as he saw fit.

"You don’t know what you’re talking about, wolf. So, I’d advise you to just calm down and handle your pent-up anger in a more... Healthy way." The elf—who was tall, slender, and looked more ’beautiful’ than ’handsome’— spoke calmly, a huge contrast to Drachs’s brash attitude.

He made to walk away, but the Beta’s nephew knew no shame, as he held his shoulder. The elf’s calm expression twitched for a second, as he turned his gaze to Drach.

"Your kind started this war with the vampires in the first place. If you guys had just minded your business instead of trying to help the humans, we wouldn’t be in this mess in the first place." Drach persisted, a defiant look in his eyes as he tried sizing up the elf.

Some men among the gathered werewolves started murmuring their agreement with the idiot’s reasoning, causing Kylo to rub his temples with a shamed look. He felt ashamed to be in any way grouped with any of those wolves.

The elf chuckled amusingly, shaking his head before speaking again. "Like I said... You don’t know what you’re talking about. If you did, you’d know that the fey involved themselves in the conflict between the humans and vampires not just because we’re kind, but because we knew very well that the humans would take an attack from the vampires as an attack from all supernatural races. That fact should be common knowledge even to your young pups."

The last part of the elf’s speech caused many of those present to laugh at Drach’s expense. Even Kylo couldn’t hold himself from chuckling a little. Served the fool right.

However, Drach didn’t take the indirect insults lightly, as he snarled. "Let’s see if your fighting skills are as sharp as your mouth!"

Without warning, he threw a punch towards the elf’s face. However, the fey creature remained calm, deflecting the attack with a simple slap on his attacker’s arm.

Drach was pushed back, becoming even more angry. With a roar, he charged at the elf but was halted by a booming voice.

"Enough of this madness!"
