Chapter 26: _ Claim her

Gamma Rhett

~~

That night after he saw that boy on Isleen’s bed relishing the sight of her nakedness, he hadn’t been able to take his mind off of it. When he arrived at home, he met Kylo in the living room, snacking on popcorn and seeing a horror movie.

"Kylo." He said when his son gave him a silent treatment.

Kylo barely cast him a glance. "Hi, Dad." He grimly replied.

Rhett sighed to himself. If only he knew how to fix things with his son. The thing was – he sucks at displaying emotions. Hence, he had trained Kylo with such grimness that had created a gap between them.

And right now, after discovering that his son’s girlfriend was his mate, he feared getting closer to his son. Just as he was about to go into his room, Kylo’s voice stopped him.

"Dad?" He called.

Rhett turned, surprised. "I’m here."

"Is – it possible that there are vampires in the pack?"

Rhett raised a brow. What could have caused his son to ask him such? "Why, Kylo?"

"Isleen – she..." Kylo seemed to be bargaining on what to say.

Kylo had his whole attention now. "What about her?"

"Nah. Never mind, Dad. I guess you came home to rest. Sleep well." Kylo dismissed. 𝓃𝓸𝓋𝓅𝓾𝒷.𝒸ℴ𝓂

At that moment, Rhett felt like pressing on until his son spewed whatever it was. But he didn’t want to appear too curious. Hence, like the coward that he was, he nodded and went into his room.

As soon as he dropped his suitcase, Rhett sat on his bed, head in his hands. He had no idea how much he could handle until he broke. Turned out even the strongest men had their limits. He just couldn’t wait to sleep and see her...

When he sees the ones in his dreams, his burdens would grow lesser and his path, more aligned.

He wanted to know why Kylo asked about vampires and then mentioned Isleen too. However, right now, he could do nothing but wonder.

As he skimmed through his nighttime routine, images of Isleen’s body kept flashing into his head. How plump her but cheeks were and how small her breasts stood firmly on her chest. Not to mention her strawberry-blonde hair. Under the lamp earlier, it seemed to glow.

"Arrgh." Rhett groaned under the shower, gritting his teeth at his erection. His wolf cried with longing.

It had been long.

Way too long since his wife died that he’d touch another woman. It had been so long since he’d been celibate so much that he barely remembered what holding a woman felt like.

The one in his dreams had told him to preserve himself for his second-fated mate. Now that he thought of it, he wondered if he was ordered that so that his desire would come out in full force to crave his mate when he found her.

So that he’d lose control. After all, he did go sneak up at her from her window. He was losing control. He slept.

.

.

"It must have come as a shock to you." The melodious voice of the one in his dreams welcomed him the moment he stepped into dreamland.

Rhett moved toward her but he usually didn’t always get too close because of the light that always bathed her. It was usually so blinding that he never dared to try looking at her face.

However, when he got closer, the blinding would dim and become a little more tolerable for him. Just enough for him to see the flowing white dress that flowed gracefully from her shoulders to her feet in folds.

She was always in the same attire and yet, it was ever flawless.

"It transcends shock, holy one." Rhett breathed as she gestured for him to sit on a rock just a meter away from her.

As always, Rhett obeyed. "My mate is —"

"What is written for you is written for a reason, Rhett. Remember your purpose. You must not defer from it, child. You stand for a greater purpose and this trial is put in your way as a tile that leads to fulfilling your destiny. You must not ignore it." She said.

Rhett understood. He’d dedicated his whole life to this. Got judged for this. But then again, this was just too much for his capability.

A pulse throbbed on his forehead. "This – this one is a trial beyond my power. I can barely hold back when she’s there. I have lost myself the moment I found out she was my mate. But, holy one, she belongs to my kid. He is in love with her. Holy one, this is a trial beyond my capabilities." His voice was shaky.

Rhett couldn’t believe what his own voice sounded like himself. This confession was bringing him close to tears. It’d been a century since he’d known what tears felt like.

"Your son isn’t destined for her. Their union is a taboo that mustn’t be allowed to bloom. A curse shall be upon them should they not be separated. She belongs to you, Rhett. Your son, however, belongs to somebody else."

He knew it too. She had already told him about the curse on Kylo and Isleen. Their relationship would attract an opposing force to the both of them and Kylo, his son – would be in danger.

Rhett’s face fell. He knew how true her words were. He knew how final her declarations were. He needed to save Kylo. He could never survive a day should anything happen to his son.

"W — what do I do? I beseech you, holy one, bestow upon me an ounce of your knowledge. What do I do? I am stuck. I am hurting. I need you." He croaked.

He was answered by the lights that climbed higher, looming over him. He knew she was standing up then. How much he really wanted to look at her. To catch a glimpse of her face.

It was sad that this was all he could get. Her figure and a reflection of her.

"Claim her. Save your son, claim your mate. Mark your mate, Rhett. Mark her."
