Chapter 261: The Chosen One’s Weakness

Rhett

~~

After he revealed his identity as the chosen one and it was confirmed by the fairy Queen, Rhett and Isleen stepped aside to speak with Aceco.

Isleen had recovered a silver dagger that belonged to Lupe from ’Cullen’s’ pants. With this dagger, Aceco was able to use her magic to view the details of what transpired between the two.

It was the confirmation they needed, and now they knew that Cullen was the vampire and his real name was ’Fergus.’

After kissing Isleen goodbye, Rhett had to join the others inside the Alpha’s house. As he stepped into the house, he was led by some maids to a dimly lit hall upstairs, where the fairy Queen, Aceco, Alpha Beowulf, and Luna Dawn had gathered already.

"Gamma Rhett." The Alpha gave him a slight nod, acknowledging his arrival.

Rhett simply glanced at him and gave him a nod in return. He wasn’t a fool. He noticed the change in the way the Alpha spoke to him after it was revealed that he was the ’chosen one’.

He could only hope that things don’t escalate and his title doesn’t cause any power struggles.

The fairy Queen turned her gaze to him from the large round table where they were all seated. Her two fairy guards stood silently behind her, their faces stern.

"We were just discussing something really important." The fairy Queen finally spoke solemnly. "It’s about your... Weakness."

Rhett’s brows creased into a frown as he took his seat on the table in between Aceco and Alpha Beowulf.

"Weakness?" He repeated with a clueless gaze.

The fairy Queen nodded before continuing. "As the chosen one, there are a few things that can truly kill you. Among those things and possibly the most important... Is your blood."

Rhett arched an eyebrow in confusion. His blood? Did she mean extracting his blood could kill him?

Noticing his confusion, the Fairy Queen further elaborated. "What I mean is, anyone of your blood can kill you. That includes blood-related family or children of any kind."

Family... The only family he had left in this world was his son, Kylo.

But why would he want to kill him?

Rhett cleared his throat before voicing out his thoughts. "I have a son. He’s currently back from the army on a three-day break. How exactly can the vampires use him against me?"

The fairy Queen seemed to be in thought as she relaxed her back on her chair. Just then, Aceco stood up.

"Of course!" She yelled out in shock, like she’d just made a world-shaking revelation. "It all makes sense now. That’s why Fergus has been getting so close with Kylo."

Rhett’s face became grim as he realized what Aceco was talking about. Cullen... Or rather, Fergus, had been getting uncomfortably close to Kylo. And recently, Rhett had been noticing a change in his son’s attitude toward him.

"Fergus?" Alpha Beowulf asked in confusion, his gaze going from Aceco to Rhett. "Don’t keep us in the dark, what’s going on?"

With a sigh, Aceco explained how she just found out about who the shapeshifting vampire was currently disguised as and also how she discovered his name.

After her revelation, Alpha Beowulf slammed his palm on the table. "What are we waiting for then?" He turned to Rhett. "Mobilize some pack soldiers and head to your house and confiscate the bastard. We have him cornered, there’s no escaping."

The fairy Queen shook her head before speaking. "It’s not as easy as you say it, Alpha Beowulf. Fergus is an ancient vampire who many have tried killing but failed. Even silver can’t kill him."

Beowulf’s face grew grim as he settled down.

However, the fairy Queen wasn’t done yet. "But centuries ago, it was discovered that his weakness is the sustained heat of fire. If you truly want to kill him, I advise you to do it when he least expects it before burning him. Honestly, I think it’s better to just kill him. I doubt the vampire Lord will let such a powerful soldier live if we capture him for questioning."

Rhett was once again surprised by how Aceco and the fairy Queen, two of the holiest creatures he’d ever seen, spoke so easily about killing when it came to Fergus. It just showed how dangerous and feared he was.

Eventually, the meeting was called to a close with a few decisions made. Aceco would stay back still to secretly watch over Rhett as usual, in case Fergus or Kylo made a move.

As for the Fairy Queen, she was heading back to Enchantee to discuss with both the Elven King and the Queen of the Nymphs.

The nymphs had somehow avoided participating in this war since it started, dividing themselves from the rest of the fey to avoid attracting the attention of the vampires. But now, things were changing and the vampires were after EVERYONE.

If the nymphs joined this war, the tides could change in their favor. The other supernatural races were already losing too many soldiers on the battlefield.

When Rhett drove back to the precinct that night and locked himself in his office, he sighed as he sat on his chair.

He glanced at his phone and considered calling Isleen. What was he thinking, letting her stay under the same roof with that killer even after they’d discovered his identity?

What if Fergus decided that tonight was the night that he’d finally kill Isleen? What if he killed her to get into his head and make him lose his mind?

Rhett clenched his fists as he got up, pacing around his office. He made a few calls, telling the pack soldiers patrolling to keep an eye out for ’Cullen’. He didn’t give them any details but he asked them to update him if they spotted him making any moves.

Nothing could happen to Isleen or Kylo. He’d vowed to protect them with his life and he’d make sure that promise was fulfilled to the end if the need ever arose.

"So help me, moon goddess." He breathed out a prayer as he finally allowed himself to relax on his chair. n𝚘𝚟𝚙u𝚋.co𝚖
