Chapter 44: _ Mr. Fenrir
"Then she’ll be sorry," Liam said.
Sorry?
I shook my head. "They are never sorry for bullying me, Liam. None of them are."
I took his hand and never dropped it until we arrived at the school. The school was a two-storeyed building with a minimal compound range and closed doors.
Since we only taught teenage wolves here, our population was limited. As we entered the gates, a few students who were hurrying to their classrooms all greeted me.
"Good morning, Ms. Isleen!"
I could see the questions in their eyes probably from seeing me walk in hand in hand with Liam. I also saw how they awkwardly glanced at the boy. Everyone probably knew the story by now.
I and Liam went into the hallway which was a long corridor filled with ten doorways lining ether sides at regular intervals. Sunlight slanted through high windows at the far end, which illuminated the linoleum floor.
Across from the doorways were lockers that lined the walls. The staircase that led upstairs was tucked away discreetly at the opposite end. The class I teach was situated downstairs, so I scarcely went up unless I wanted to see the principal or go to the teacher’s office.
I stayed most of the time in class because we, the teachers taught a class each. The school had a total of seven classes.
From the first down to seventh grade which was usually the last. In seventh grade, a young wolf was expected to have their wolves fully awakened.
I taught the fourth-grade students, so in a few years, Liam should have fully matured into an adult wolf.
I and Liam walked through the hallway, and that was always the hardest part for me. We had a total of fourteen staff in the school excluding me and the principal. Eight were teachers, one a disciplinarian, and the rest, were workers.
None of the teachers were my friends except for Fenrir who was the only male. He wasn’t exactly a friend but someone who had been trying without results to get under my pants.
Imagine him hitting on someone who wasn’t his mate while he was already married to his own mate, and yet, they all judged me for dating Kylo.
The first teacher we encountered on our way was Mrs. Morrigan who was the queen of gossip in the school. Her crimson lipstick clashed violently with her otherwise drab cardigan. The bloody woman was a walking embodiment of gossip disguised as a concerned teacher. She had a son who happened to be in my class.
"Good morning, Mrs. Morrigan." I greeted them with my usual fake and rehearsed smile.
She barely cast me a glance as her old stilletos squeaked on the floor. "Morning, Isleen," she mumbled, her eyes flitting to Liam for a fleeting moment before darting away.
"Lovely day, isn’t it?" I asked, wondering when she would finally change this hairstyle she had one that made her look like a country pig.
She offered me a noncommittal shrug, her gaze returning to Liam. "Yes, well," her hand hovered on his hair, "tragic business about your brother, Liam. A terrible loss."
Liam mumbled a barely audible "thank you" and moved on like he didn’t give a shit about her and wouldn’t mind her knowing.
I stifled a smirk and scurried after him.
The next teacher was well...
The douchebag.
His thick salt-and-pepper mustache twitched as he saw me, his pot belly wobbling with every step. "Wow! This is definitely a great start to my day, Isleen!"
Oh, please...
I, however, had to tolerate him. I had always managed to. "Hi, Mr. Fenrir. Lovely day, isn’t it?" I asked.
To every one of them, I always repeat that same line because, hell, I had no idea what else to say to them.
"I wouldn’t call it a lovely day before but I’d do so now that it’s been blessed by your beautiful face." He grinned because sending me the most disgusting wink of the season.
It took every ounce of control in me to not roll my eyes.
I mustered a smile that never came up. "I’m trying to get Liam here to class." I attempted to escape, but trust Fenrir to be a leach.
"Oh! That’s right. Saw the news, man. Stay strong, boy. Stay strong. It’s sad what’s going on in our pack now but those vampires won’t go Scott free. We will find them all and gut them to death" Fenrir pretended as though he wanted to patt Liam but caressed my hand instead.
Worse, he held on to it.
I snatched my hand away from him. "Yes, they will, Mr. Fenrir. Liam and I should get to class now."
He coughed awkwardly at my rejection of his touch. "How is the boy coping though?"
"He’s handling it well," I replied, my desire to not engage further in the discussion with him skyrocketing.
Mr. Fenrir cleared his throat and straightened his posture. "Speaking of handling things well," he leaned in again, his voice dropping to a husky murmur, "you look radiant today, Isleen. Like a ray of sunshine in this dreary hallway."
ARGH! Oh, God.
I couldn’t help but roll my eyes internally. "Thank you, Mr. Fenrir, but I’m really not interested in a conversation right now."
He chuckled, undeterred. "Come on, Isleen, loosen up! Life’s short. Enjoy it while you can." He winked again, a gesture that somehow made me want to scrub my eyes. 𝖓𝔬𝔳𝖕𝖚𝖇.𝖈𝔬𝔪
"I certainly enjoy my life, Mr. Fenrir. But flirting with a married colleague isn’t part of that enjoyment."
His smile faltered slightly, a flicker of annoyance crossing his face. He opened his mouth to retort, but I cut him off. "Excuse me, Mr. Fenrir. I have a class to get to."
With a curt nod, I swept past him, leaving him standing awkwardly in the hallway. As I walked away, I could feel his frustrated stare burning into my back. But for the first time in a long time, I felt a sense of satisfaction. It wasn’t easy shutting down the asshole’s unwanted advances, but it was necessary. I knew I’d pay for it later.
Whenever I fought back at the bullies, they always found a way to make me pay back.
Liam’s abrupt stop startled me. "Mr. Fenrir?" He called.
