Chapter 50: _ Jealous Man
When he got to Isleen’s, Rhett approached the window. He jumped like he did the last time, feeling like a criminal.
He gently placed his hand on the windowpane, feeling the cool glass beneath his fingertips. He longed to go inside, to hold Isleen close and assure her of his protection. But he knew he couldn’t.
He listened out with his elevated hearing to know how many people were in the room or if it was safe to linger around the window. He heard one heartbeat.
His joy knew no bounds as he thought Isleen had come to her senses and had sent Liam to sleep in her male roommate’s room but then...
... he heard it. Faint and far but there was another heartbeat in the room. He had no idea why it sounded so far though.
Hence, he peeped.
What he saw wasn’t what he’d expected. Liam wasn’t in Isleen’s roommate’s bedroom but in hers. He, however, was in front of a door, bending and peeping through the hole in the doorknob.
Rhett aged as he contemplated about what could be behind that door. He said it. Liam wasn’t a regular kid. All the things he’d be seeing about the boy had convinced him so.
To think that he couldn’t address this just yet sucked. He needed a way to get Isleen to himself alone. They needed to talk about so—so many things.
The sudden movement of Liam jerked Rhett back to reality. The boy huddled into the bed like he wasn’t the one peeping through the door a while ago.
While that fazed Rhett and left him pondering, the emergence of Isleen from the door sent his eyes bulging. She had a small towel wrapped around her body, barely covering her sensitive parts.
Hell, he could see her cleavage clear and visible even from the distance. Watching her like this was a self-inflicted torture. One that he needed to stop – to break.
It wasn’t until it dripped on his clothes that he noticed that he’d been drooling over seeing her like that. He knew what was coming next as she was done towel-drying her hair.
He knew what she was going to do next. Fearing that he might not be able to control himself should he see any more of that sexy body of hers, he bent just in time.
Just in time to not see it.
However, as he hid, it hit him hard like a punch.
Liam was peeping through the keyhole. That door was obviously clear to him as Isleen’s bathroom. Isleen had come out of that door...
What was that implying?
That Liam wasn’t satisfied with the little show he watched every night while Isleen dressed up and had upgraded to peeping at her while she bath?!
No. That was the height of it.
That little DEVIL!
Rhett was about to break down the window, jump into that room, and put the little boy where he belonged – an asylum.
But then again, there was no way Kylo wouldn’t find out about his presence here tonight should he do so. He didn’t think Isleen was mentally ready to tell Kylo about their fate too.
And thus, for the love he had for his son and putting Isleen into consideration, he didn’t.
It took all he had. He stood in front of the window, clutching the window sill and gritting his teeth.
"I can’t take this anymore." He muttered under his breath and climbed down.
On a high speed, he drove back to the precinct.
.
.
When he arrived, he went straight to Farkas.
"Is the interrogation all done?" He asked, settling into the chair.
Farkas had a frown wrinkling his forehead. "Did something happen on your way? You don’t look so—"
"I’m fine." Rhett cut him short. "It’s just— stress dealing with me. I want to hear the feedback on the other interrogations I missed."
When Farkas sighed heavily, Rhett knew Darius had messed up even before he could hear it.
"The Beta said he was too tired and left with all the clips and gave us no updates too. We have to wait until tomorrow when he returns."
Clenching his jaw, "That son of a..." Rhett was about to swear.
Farkas extended his hand, aiming to touch Rhett but the latter avoided the contact as usual.
Farkas saw it and rolled his eyes. "Tomorrow, Rhett. Tomorrow. That’s all it takes and you’ll lay your hands on everything you need right now. Darius will be here tomorrow. Don’t beat yourself too much over it."
Farkas wouldn’t understand; Rhett thought. He wouldn’t comprehend that a little boy was making him furious. Perhaps, his frustration wasn’t exclusively based on Liam’s sneaky and ungodly behavior for a child his age.
Perhaps, he was so mad right now because he was jealous. Because he was jealous that Liam was getting to see everything he wanted. Because Liam was so small and yet, he had seen every part of Isleen’s body that Rhett hadn’t.
He knew he shouldn’t be more worried about that. He should be more concerned about why on earth a little boy could even do such a thing.
Yet, he couldn’t help it. Under the influence of this Mate bond, he was a powerless man.
He rubbed his temples with both of his hands. "Poor me, Farkas." He whispered.
"Pardon?" Farkas raised a brow.
Rhett stared at nothing in front of him and sighed. "I’m going to have to visit the Alpha tomorrow."
"W — Why? We have everything under control." Farkas shrugged.
Rhett looked at him. "Yes, but we can’t make decisions without him. He rules us – owns us."
"I know, I know. I mean, isn’t that why he wants Darius with us? The Beta will do that job."
Rhett couldn’t trust Darius with that. Whatever it was, he wanted to be there. He wanted to make his opinions known to the Alpha. It was up to the scholar to take it or not.
However, before he could reply to Farkas, a knock resounded, and then, a soldier strained his neck into Farkas’s office.
"Sir!" He saluted. "The autopsy results are out and here."
