Chapter 56: _ You, Tempting Boomer

I swung the door open, expecting Cullen’s familiar face. Instead, what I found sent a wave of heat and power over me as I collided with Gamma Rhett’s broad chest. My breath seized as I was caught between shock and an urge that sent shivers down my spine.

What was he doing here? Panic surged through me.

Kylo could walk in any minute and find his father standing on my doorstep. The thought sent a wave of nausea washing over me. Every fiber of my being screamed at me to slam the door in his face, yet my body, traitorously, moved aside to usher him in.

The mate bond was a cruel twist of fate that made resistance a constant battle for me. My Wolf was also a betrayal because the sight of this man sent her out of control.

Longing. Urge. craving.

"Gamma Rhett," I acknowledged him, my voice strained.

"Isleen," he rumbled, his gaze sweeping over me, searching for heaven knows what. "Are you alright after the attack?"

It was none of his business.

"I’m fine," I mumbled, shifting uncomfortably under his scrutiny.

His expression hardened. "I’m here to speak with— your son."

Whether he liked it or not, Liam was my son. He might as well start calling him that without making it sound like a herculean task.

My heart wobbled though. "Liam? Why? W—What’s he done? What for?" I stuttered.

He remained impassive. "He’s involved in some matters that require clarification. I need to hear his side of the story."

Huh?

My Liam?

"What matters?" I pressed, my voice rising a notch. "You can’t just waltz in here and interrogate him without explanation."

The sternness in my voice stunned even me. My primal urge to protect Liam spurred to life. However, that was a mistake.

Our gazes locked and I knew what it felt like to see my reflection in his eyes. It felt like he was a body carved specifically for me.

Then, in a heartbeat, the dam broke. He lunged forward, his hand cupping my face, and his lips crashed onto mine. The kiss was a whirlwind of forbidden desire. It was a collision of raw emotion and pent-up longing. I surrendered to the intoxicating sensation that took over me. My body betrayed my head as I melted into his embrace.

The kiss was everything I’d imagined and more – passionate, desperate, and tinged with the forbidden fruit’s sweetness. My traitorous hands tangled in his hair, pulling him closer as I reveled in the heat of his touch.

But just as quickly as it began, the kiss ended.

What is this that we’d done yet again?

I gasped for breath, reeling from the intensity of it all. Shame washed over me. It was hot and suffocating. I stumbled back and collapsed onto the nearest chair, my head buried in my hands.

I and Gamma Rhett just kissed again.

We just kissed for the second time. Hell, this was getting worse day by day. Being alone with him in a space had proven bigger than me. I’d never be able to handle my desires while I was alone with him.

He knelt before me, his hand reaching out to touch me, but I flinched away. "Isleen," he murmured.

"This is wrong," I choked out. "We can’t do this. It’s forbidden. W— what about Kylo?" I cried.

He stared at me with eyes burning with an intensity that both frightened and enthralled me. "Don’t fight it, Isleen," he rasped. "We are mates. This is what we’re meant for."

I never realized that this man could be as traditional as this. Imagine wanting to claim your son’s girlfriend because tradition wanted it so.

"And what about Kylo? How can you even think of saying that? Do you have any love for your son at all?" I scoffed, meeting his gaze yet again and hoping not to regret it.

"He’ll understand," he said, his voice filled with a conviction that sent chills down my spine. "Sooner or later, he’ll find out and, he’ll come to accept it."

His words felt like a betrayal, a slap in the face of everything I held dear. But then again, I hated his words because I knew how true they were.

Oh, Lord. Help me through this.

"How can you say that? Don’t you love your son? I ask again, do you not love Kylo?" I almost bellowed but when I remembered that Liam was in the room, I kept mute.

He met my gaze with an unreadable expression. "I love him more than anything, Isleen. And that’s why I’m doing this. For my son, for me, and for you. But you— you wouldn’t understand." He stabbed a finger in the air, seeming to want to say something but deciding against it.

Confusion clouded my mind. "You need to explain yourself, Gamma Rhett. How is this you looking out for any of us? I know why you want this. You want this because the Book of Laws wants it so. Because the law wants it so. You know what? I have read the lores like you demanded but I don’t think we’ve really had the chance to discuss it. Apparently, now is not the time for this too. Shall we meet somewhere?"

He stood up, his eyes searching mine. "Tomorrow night. I’ll come by your place before heading home from work. We need to talk."

Oh, yes, Gamma Rhett. And after the discussion, I’d reject your ass. You wouldn’t know what hit you.

He nodded mutely. I bet he thought that I’d really talk this through.

Tch.

I’m rejecting you, you boomer. You beautiful, attractive, and tempting boomer.

"Your son." He stated again.

I’d have protested should I not have lost every ounce of energy left in me. I wouldn’t survive an argument with him. He could talk to Liam. After all, I’d be here watching.

Just as I opened my mouth to call out to Liam, a voice startled me. "Did you need something, Ms. Isleen?"

Liam stood there, behind us in front of the room, his countenance indifferent. It was as if he had been listening to the entire conversation all along
