Chapter 100: Chapter 100: The Beneficiaries of the Law School
After leaving Beijing and returning to Big Willow Tree, it was almost 5:30 in the afternoon.
Chen Cheng parked his car in front of the noodle shop and was just about to head to Wanbao Hall when he smelled perfume on himself.
The habit of Xia Yubing spraying perfume is indeed quite fascinating at times.
But afterward, it also needs to be dealt with.
After locking the car, Chen Cheng entered the noodle shop, changed from head to toe, threw his clothes and pants into the washing machine, pressed the start button, and then headed back toward Wanbao Hall.
Tonight is the organizational life meeting of Zhang Jingsong’s law school.
As a newly promoted son-in-law, Ding Er naturally would not be absent.
Just as Chen Cheng stepped over the threshold of Wanbao Hall, a greeting came from beside him, "Brother Dacheng."
He turned his head and saw Zhang Yuan.
"Hello," Chen Cheng responded.
Then came Ding Er’s intimate greeting, "Damn, you’ve been disappearing these past few days, where have you been?"
"Busy!" Chen Cheng: "Happy honeymoon, Dinger."
"That bastard Shu Biao almost had me under the table last night with his drinking..."
Before Ding Er could finish, Zhang Yuan said, "Don’t curse."
"Alright, wife."
Ding Er quickly changed his wording, "Yesterday, I lost after a drinking spree of three hundred cups, all thanks to that bastard Shu Biao."
This was the first time Chen Cheng had seen Ding Er so obedient; it seems marriage really can change a person.
"You two chat, I’ll go help sister-in-law," Zhang Yuan said.
"Take care, wife."
Once Zhang Yuan was gone, Chen Cheng put his arm around Ding Er’s neck, "Damn, you’ve struck it rich! Marrying such a gentle and quiet beauty, it’s like Piggy finding a wife!"
"Go to hell, I’m handsome, okay?" Ding Er laughed and cursed.
"So where are you guys living now?"
Ding Er candidly said, "Still living separately! Although we got our certificate, my place isn’t quite convenient right now."
Ding Er’s family lives in a family compound, and he and his father are crammed in a two-bedroom apartment.
If Zhang Yuan moved in now, it really would be inconvenient.
Chen Cheng raised an eyebrow, "So it’s marriage first, love later for you guys!"
"Eh, slowly does it!" Ding Er smiled contentedly, "But honestly, Yuan Yuan is really great!"
"Be content then!"
While the two were joking around, Zhang Jingsong waved at them.
Chen Cheng and Ding Er walked over.
Zhang Jingsong introduced, "Everyone, this is my son-in-law, Ding Er."
"We heard yesterday about Professor Zhang’s darling daughter finding her Mr. Right, and seeing him today, he’s indeed as good as the reputation."
Ding Er confidently smiled in response to everyone’s compliments.
Zhang Jingsong continued, "And this is a friend of my son-in-law, Chen Cheng. He owns this restaurant."
Hearing this, everyone cast admiring glances at Chen Cheng, praising him as young and successful.
Chen Cheng modestly waved his hand.
"Xiao Chen, you can start serving the dishes," Zhang Jingsong smiled.
"Sure thing."
Today’s menu had been carefully adjusted.
Especially the Braided Scallops, it’s truly a work of culinary art.
Dried scallops, sliced finely and shaped into the form of braided balls, then added to a rich broth made from chicken, pork bone, and ham to maintain the seafood’s delicacy while enriching the texture.
Each bite allows one to feel the scallops’ tenderness and the richness of the broth.
When this dish was served, these university professors working in the ivory tower were all amazed, marveling that such a small restaurant could produce such a perfect dish.
"It kinda tastes like Wensi Tofu."
"The knife work is truly amazing!"
The dishes served were top quality and also enhanced Zhang Jingsong’s prestige.
"Xiao Chen, stop busying yourself, join us for a couple of drinks," he called.
Chen Cheng smiled, "Uncle Zhang, you guys eat first, I’m just going to rush the kitchen a bit and will join you shortly."
"Okay, we’ll wait for you."
Chen Cheng headed toward the kitchen where Xiao Meier and Zhang Yuan were.
The two were standing by the door, ensuring that each dish brought out had no issues with the presentation.
"Xiao Zhang, why aren’t you eating?" Chen Cheng asked.
Zhang Yuan: "I don’t really enjoy eating with them. It’s exhausting."
This response caught Chen Cheng off guard, and he chuckled awkwardly, "Well, now it’s great, Dinger is perfect for this kind of thing. You won’t be exhausted anymore."
Zhang Yuan showed a light smile.
Seeing this, Xiao Meier said, "Xiao Cheng, go out and keep Dinger company. The kitchen is no place for you."
"Then keep an eye out here."
"Got it."
Chen Cheng then walked over to the dinner table.
...
Zhang Jingsong let out a long sigh, "I’ve already applied for funding from the college, and both the student union and the labor union are actively raising funds."
"It’s such a pity for such a promising student." Another teacher said, "It’s also unknown whether there will be any sequelae after the treatment."
"The girl’s family is not wealthy, just ordinary working parents. However, she has a younger sister who, I heard, is a model in Beijing."
Chen Cheng sat down next to Li Dinger and asked quietly, "What are you talking about? Why has it gotten so serious all of a sudden?"
Ding Er quietly said, "Lao Zhang has a student who was hit by a car last week. After the traffic police arrived, they determined the other party was fully responsible."
"Now she’s been in the hospital for a week, just waiting for the money to have surgery!"
Chen Cheng raised his eyebrows, "There’s such a thing?"
"It’s a pity!" Ding Er muttered, "Lao Zhang said that the girl who was hit is both smart and beautiful."
"Now she has encountered such an unexpected disaster," he added with a trace of regret on his face.
Zhang Jingsong picked up his glass and then set it down again, his face full of worry.
"No matter what, let’s first figure out a way to get the surgery done." he said, "Continuing like this isn’t right."
"Hello, are there any seats available?"
A voice inquired from the entrance.
Chen Cheng just got up when he saw Xiao Meier come out from the back kitchen, enthusiastically welcoming, "There are seats, please come inside."
"But it’s quite busy today, so the service might be a bit slow," she informed in advance.
Chen Cheng sat back down, wanting to chat more with Li Dinger, but someone stood behind him.
"Professor Zhang?"
Chen Jin was quite surprised, his face breaking into a bright smile.
"Chairman Chen?" Zhang Jingsong also didn’t expect him to be here.
"Eh?" Chen Jin saw Chen Cheng and Zhang Jingsong dining at the same table, curiosity filling his eyes.
"Mr. Chen, you know Professor Zhang?"
The three exchanged glances.
Especially when Zhang Jingsong heard Chen Jin’s address to Chen Cheng, it cleared up the confusion from that night — Wanbao Hall wasn’t his main business.
"Professor Zhang is my childhood friend’s father-in-law," Chen Cheng stood up to introduce.
Chen Jin said with a laugh, "Look at this, we even have this connection!"
"Dad, who is this?" Ding Er asked curiously.
"Let me introduce. This is Chairman Chen Jin from the LinkedIn Fund," Zhang Jingsong also leaned in his own resources to his son-in-law, "Chairman, this is my son-in-law, Ding Er."
"Hello, hello."
The two shook hands, and Chen Jin, noticing the full four tables, said, "Professor Zhang, you eat first, we can talk later."
"Okay."
Chen Cheng: "Uncle Zhang, I’ll go attend to them."
The two Chens left their seats, while Ding Er continued asking, "Dad, are you close with the chairman?"
"I am the honorary chief legal advisor of the legal department at the LinkedIn Fund."
Zhang Jingsong answered, "Moreover, each year, alongside recommending our outstanding graduates to well-known law firms, we also send them to intern at LinkedIn."
Ding Er swallowed and whispered quietly, "That’s impressive..."
And Chen Cheng took Chen Jin to the Camellia room.
"Mr. Chen, why the rush this morning?" Chen Jin asked with a smile, "I wanted to invite you for morning tea, but since I couldn’t, I had to come to your base."
"Hey, don’t mention it!" Chen Cheng invited Chen Jin to sit down.
"What? Was it not fun?"
As soon as he finished talking, Xiao Meier came in with the menu.
Seeing the two talking and laughing, she smiled and asked, "Xiao Cheng, is this your friend?"
Chairman, this is..." Chen Cheng thought for a moment before addressing, "the lady boss of Wanbao Hall."
Chen Jin was surprised to see that Chen Cheng, so flamboyant outside, had such a beautiful wife at home. Truly, he was a man of great fortune.
"Mr. Chen, you are indeed lucky!"
Chen Jin exclaimed, then introduced himself, "I am Chen Jin, Mr. Chen’s good friend."
Xiao Meier handed over the menu, "Then Mr. Chen, what would you like to eat?"
"A portion of egg fried rice, with less oil," Chen Jin said directly without opening the menu.
"Okay." She noted the request and asked, "The lady outside, isn’t she eating?"
"She already ate," Chen Jin replied with a smile, "Thank you."
"Wait a moment then, it will be ready soon."
After saying this, Xiao Meier left the room.
As soon as the door to the room closed, Chen Jin said meaningfully, "Mr. Chen, now I see why you came back so early."
Chen Cheng poured Chen Jin some tea, smiling, "Why’s that?"
"With such a beautiful wife waiting at home, you definitely had to hurry back to attend to your duties! Hope you didn’t spend too many bullets last night?"
"Hahaha..."
Over the course of the day and night, after experiencing so many unspeakable secrets, they grew much closer.
"Chairman Chen..."
"Eh, don’t call me that." Chen Jin interrupted Chen Cheng’s words, "I am more than ten years older than you..."
"Just call me Lao Chen, it feels much closer," he said with a smile.
Chen Cheng responded with a faint smile, guessing Chen Jin’s visit probably wasn’t just for a bowl of egg fried rice that could be had anywhere.
But since he didn’t bring it up, Chen Cheng didn’t ask either.
"So, Lao Chen?" he said with a smile, "Have some tea first, the meal will be ready soon."
Chen Jin lifted his tea cup, took a sip, "Ah, Jin Junmei from Xigua? Mr. Chen, now I know why your Wanbao Hall is so expensive!"
Chen Cheng gave a thumbs up, "Excellent!"
