Chapter 114: Chapter 113: The Little Hand is Quite Smooth

This Su Liya incident is a tough one for Wen Shulin to handle.

She can’t get her company’s legal department involved, as the board would find out and that would be difficult to explain.

Nor can she hire an external law firm to deal with it, for people have their own agendas, and the slightest disturbance could be fatal to her and the entire CGG.

And the only option left before her is Chen Cheng.

The black Alphard stopped in front of Wanbao Hall.

Wen Shulin got out of the car, dressed today in a simple grey suit, elegant and proud.

The sun wasn’t strong, yet she wore a pair of sunglasses.

From a distance, she really had the air of a domineering female boss.

Before she entered, she saw Chen Cheng and Xiao Meier seated behind the cashier’s desk.

The two of them were laughing over something, seemingly in perfect harmony.

"Cough cough."

Wen Shulin walked forward and lightly coughed twice.

"Hello, would you like to dine?"

Xiao Meier looked up warmly, but seeing Wen Shulin dressed like this, she felt she had seen her somewhere before but couldn’t quite place her.

"I’m here for Mr. Chen."

She said, looking at the beautiful Xiao Meier, and smiled faintly.

"It’s you!"

After hearing the familiar voice, Xiao Meier smiled, touching Chen Cheng’s arm, "Xiao Cheng, Boss Wen is here."

"I know," Chen Cheng finished the last piece of the puzzle before standing up, "All done, mission accomplished!"

Wen Shulin looked down and realized the two were assembling a jigsaw puzzle printed with a photo of them together.

An inexplicable emotion rose in her heart, unsure if it was jealousy or envy.

"Sister Meier, I need to go take care of something with Miss Wen," Chen Cheng walked out and said, "I won’t be back for lunch."

Xiao Meier nodded, "Okay."

Wen Shulin nodded slightly towards Xiao Meier, "Miss Xiao, I’ll take my leave now."

"Take care, and welcome to visit again."

Wen Shulin followed Chen Cheng out.

Xiao Meier sat back down, her eyes shining as she looked at the completed puzzle.

"This Xiao Chen, why does he look so silly in photos?" she murmured, tenderly touching the face of Chen Cheng in the picture.

Once in the car, Chen Cheng said, "I’ve contacted the other side; we can talk once we’re there."

Wen Shulin crossed her legs elegantly, "Thank you."

"No need to thank me. We’re partners, after all!"

The Alphard headed towards the law school.

Chen Cheng had already contacted his father-in-law, Zhang Jingsong, through Li Dinger.

Zhang Jingsong didn’t refuse since Chen Cheng was a good friend of his son-in-law, and after saving one of his favorite students, plus having a positive impression of Chen Cheng’s character, he agreed to meet and talk.

"I’ve prepared some things to give to Professor Zhang," Wen Shulin turned her head slightly and spoke softly.

Chen Cheng, who was playing with his phone, responded, "Oh."

Wen Shulin turned her head back and caught sight of his smiling face.

She was extremely sensitive at the moment, paranoid to every detail.

"What are you happy about? Are you pleased to see me in such a bind?"

Chen Cheng paused for half a second, then turned his phone screen towards her, "Just chatting."

Wen Shulin glanced at the contact labeled "Sister Meier" and then understood Chen Cheng wasn’t mocking her.

"I’m sorry, my apologies." She said coldly.

Chen Cheng touched his own ear jokingly, "What? Did I hear that right?"

Wen Shulin removed her sunglasses, fixing a stern look on Chen Cheng’s eyes.

It was then that Chen Cheng noticed her eyes were already swollen from crying.

So, the sunglasses weren’t for coolness factor.

"It’s not about you, I just..." Wen Shulin’s voice choked,

"I just feel so helpless. I thought I could control everything, but now I find there’s nothing I can do."

Chen Cheng looked at Wen Shulin, knowing that she is a very strong-willed woman, but this situation had left her in a difficult position.

"Don’t think like that, you’ve already done quite well," Chen Cheng tried to console her.

Wen Shulin shook her head, "You don’t understand, that’s my daughter. If I can’t fix this, Li Ya’s life..."

Chen Cheng turned his body to face her: "Since you chose to seek my help, you should trust me."

"I’m not saying I don’t trust you, it’s just that this matter is too important..."

Chen Cheng smiled and extended his hand towards Wen Shulin’s face, "I’m here."

Wen Shulin was startled for a moment, looking at Chen Cheng’s hand, a surge of inexplicable sentiment welled up in her heart.

This man was like a medicine—bitter to taste, yet able to cure diseases, and even addictive.

She hesitated but eventually placed her hand in Chen Cheng’s.

The warmth of his palm gave her a sense of security that she hadn’t felt in a long time.

"I know you’re very worried right now," Chen Cheng held her hand gently yet firmly, "but you have to know, this matter is not your fault, nor Li Ya’s."

"Don’t punish yourself for someone else’s mistake," he added.

Wen Shulin understood the logic.

But since it involved Li Ya, as a mother, she couldn’t help feeling timid and overly cautious.

She feared hurting Li Ya’s already shattered heart.

"What are you planning to do?" Chen Cheng asked.

There was a fierce determination in Wen Shulin’s eyes, "I want Li Hao to go to jail."

When Chen Cheng heard this, "Aren’t you afraid that he’ll drag everyone down with him in desperation?"

"Drags down? Where?" Wen Shulin was puzzled, "He was the one who pushed; Li Ya had no idea."

Chen Cheng pursed his lips, "Li Ya must have smoked that night."

"What... what?!"

Wen Shulin was startled upon hearing this; she suddenly remembered Su Liya mentioning the chocolate-flavored smoke from yesterday.

Though knowing cigars well, she was clueless about the taste of ’that leaf’.

"This was brought up by Chen Jin."

Chen Cheng motioned with his hands, "He noticed Li Hao had the habit of using, and you also saw how Li Ya was acting odd in the video, so we suspect she must have smoked as well."

"Then..."

Chen Cheng continued, "You can’t take her for a test yet."

"So, if you get Li Hao locked up and he decides to go for mutual destruction in desperation, Li Ya might also suffer."

The fierce determination in Wen Shulin’s eyes dissipated, replaced by helplessness and despair.

She originally thought that sending Li Hao to prison would solve all problems, but she did not anticipate the complications it would bring.

"However, we should trust Professor Zhang and see if he has any way to help you fulfill your wish," Chen Cheng said with a smile.

After saying that, he released Wen Shulin’s hand, stretching lazily.

"Mr. Chen, I..."

Chen Cheng gave her an assured smile, "Don’t worry, there’s always a way out when the car reaches the mountain, and the boat will straighten out when it reaches the bridge!"

"By the way," he suddenly asked.

Wen Shulin was very nervous, "What now?"

"Where do you usually go for your maintenance?"

Chen Cheng joked, "I’ll take Xiao Meier there to try it out sometime. Your hands are pretty smooth, did you do a hand mask or something?"

"You!"

Wen Shulin couldn’t control her irritation.

At this crucial moment, Chen Cheng finally acted serious for a bit, but that irreverent attitude surfaced again.

Taking a deep breath, "Once this matter is settled, I’ll personally take Xiao Meier there."

"Then I truly thank you, Miss Wen."

He paused, "But I’m not quite at ease leaving her alone with you."

Hearing this, Wen Shulin put her sunglasses back on and turned her head away,

"Then I’ll also do a facial mask for you, to see if it can thin your face, which is thicker than the Great Wall."

"If you can talk back, it means you’re in the right state!" Chen Cheng laughed, "That’s the Wen Shulin I know!~"

...

...

In the Law School, in Zhang Jingsong’s office.

"Uncle Zhang, I really appreciate your help today."

Chen Cheng entered with Wen Shulin.

Zhang Jingsong had just finished his class, and his tea in the transparent glass was nearly gone.

Although it was Chen Cheng’s first visit, seeing this, he took the initiative to refill more than half a cup for him at the water cooler.

"Have a seat," Zhang Jingsong welcomed them, taking note of Chen Cheng’s actions.

"Xiao Chen, you can come directly next time. There’s no need to ask Li Dinger to send a message."

Chen Cheng placed the tea cup in front of him with a smile and joked, "That’s great! Uncle Zhang, you don’t know, that kid hammered me with a hefty bribe!" 𝖓𝔬𝖛𝔭𝔲𝖇.𝔠𝔬𝖒

"Ha ha ha, you two really!" Zhang Jingsong laughed heartily.

His gaze turned to Wen Shulin, who had kept her sunglasses on, and asked, "Who is this?"

Chen Cheng didn’t introduce Wen Shulin’s identity first but said, "A friend of mine, Wen Shulin."

Wen Shulin stood up and extended her hand gracefully, "Hello Professor Zhang, I am Wen Shulin from CGG."
