Chapter 98: Chapter 98: Second Generation or Elite

At three in the afternoon, Chen Cheng arrived alone at Yintong, downstairs.

After parking the Camry, he walked towards the FamilyMart convenience store.

This store used to be the late-night canteen for Chen Cheng’s trio.

Sometimes, to escape the oppressive atmosphere of the office during lunch breaks, he would also choose to come here, sit for a little while, and eat some vegetarian boxed lunches.

"Dacheng~"

Wu Dongyi was waving his hand.

He still looked the same, wearing a checkered shirt, sporting a pair of glasses, and carrying a backpack with frayed edges.

Chen Cheng nodded and quickened his pace to approach.

"Holy smokes, you haven’t changed a bit!" Chen Cheng exclaimed.

Wu Dongyi laughed and said, "It’s only been a couple of months, what kind of changes can there be?"

He also sized Chen Cheng up, "Aren’t you the same?"

Today, Chen Cheng wasn’t wearing any of his high-end clothes; he just grabbed an old T-shirt, changed into a pair of jeans, and came out.

"My style is set in stone, how can it change?" he retorted.

Wu Dongyi chuckled, and then the two walked into the store.

They picked out some oden, grabbed two bottles of cola, and sat down at the long table by the window.

"Yi, how did you get to know that fund manager?" Chen Cheng picked up a fish ball and popped it into his mouth.

Wu Dongyi: "Last month, I guess. We went for drinks near the Worker’s Stadium and met."

"You really know where to invest your efforts!" Chen Cheng teased: "Too stingy to buy clothes, but you’re willing to transfer money to a girl."

"Cough, isn’t that what a man’s life is all about?" Wu Dongyi picked up a slice of radish and said while eating, "After making money, shouldn’t one spend a bit?"

"So you met her at a booth?"

Wu Dongyi shook his head, "How could it be! She was sitting in VIP, and I was in the regular seats at the back."

"And you call that brotherhood?"

Chen Cheng instantly realized this guy was probably bluffing again.

"That Li Hao, driving a Lamborghini, drinking Louis XVIII," Wu Dongyi said with eyes full of envy.

"Wait, you’ll have to tell me later how you got to know him."

Wu Dongyi leaned forward, "How much are you planning to buy?"

"Seventy to eighty thousand," Chen Cheng casually mentioned a figure.

"Seventy to eighty thousand?" Wu Dongyi’s eyes widened, "Are you sure?"

Chen Cheng nodded his head, "Hmm, that’s all the spare cash I have right now; I don’t have more."

Wu Dongyi frowned, "With that amount of money, you don’t really need to see him, do you? Can’t you just subscribe online and be done with it?"

"I just want to test the waters."

Chen Cheng took a sip of cola, "The announcement from CGG is so impressive, and you also said he’s your buddy, isn’t that double insurance?"

He probed again, "Do you really know him?"

"That day at the Worker’s Stadium, I happened to see their group. That Li Hao was particularly conspicuous, leading a foreign woman."

At this point, Chen Cheng tensed his brows.

"Foreign woman?"

Wu Dongyi nodded, "Her figure was amazing! Curvy in all the right places, with shiny golden hair, and even her eyes were blue."

He gestured as he spoke.

"At first, I thought, maybe she’s an exchange student," Wu Dongyi continued, "You know, we’ve had quite a few foreign girls coming over in recent years."

Chen Cheng asked, "Then what?"

"I edged closer to listen," Wu Dongyi said with animated enthusiasm, "Guess what?"

"What?"

"That foreign woman was speaking perfect Taiwan accent! So coquettish! It would make your bones go soft~" Wu Dongyi shuddered.

Chen Cheng continued to ask, "And then what?"

"That night, I went with Lao Cui and a few others," Wu Dongyi said as he speared another piece of fish cake, "Then someone recognized that Li Hao was poached by CGG."

"How did you end up striking a conversation with him then?" Chen Cheng asked.

Wu Dongyi smiled proudly, "Lao Cui and I went over to greet him, saying that I had a few decent projects in hand, and I wanted to ask if he was interested. To my surprise, he was quite interested and left me his contact details."

"Is it that simple?" Chen Cheng was somewhat surprised.

"It’s that simple." Wu Dongyi confirmed again and took out his phone, "Look, we’re WeChat friends!"

Saying so, he pulled up Li Hao’s WeChat and checked his Moments, which really were the same as the photos posted on the official CGG website.

Chen Cheng took the phone and browsed for a little while.

Apart from skiing, diving, and working out, there was nothing else in Li Hao’s Moments. He seemed pretty fair-skinned, and around 24 years old—evidently a rich second generation.

"This..."

Just as Chen Cheng was about to scroll further, he saw a line of text.

[Only ten Moments are visible as you are not friends.]

"You’ve been deleted by him," Chen Cheng handed back the phone, saying, "And you say he’s your buddy?"

"No way?" Wu Dongyi grabbed the phone back and indeed, it was true.

Chen Cheng muttered, "Looks like, for him to get into CGG, he’s either very capable or his family is rich."

Wu Dongyi shrugged, "This is becoming more and more common! Nowadays, you have to bring capital to join the group. Without tens of millions, or even hundreds of millions at home, who would play with you?"

But hearing this, Chen Cheng felt that something was off.

If Li Hao really came from a wealthy family, then Wen Shulin didn’t need to give him the underwriting job.

He could have easily placed him in a leisurely department like "Strategic Investment", which would have been both a gold-plating and free of risk.

However, Li Hao was a star fund manager personally named by Wen Shulin, clearly setting him up for success.

"Dacheng, when will we ordinary folks live as carefree as these young masters?" Wu Dongyi looked out at the bustling traffic and couldn’t help but sigh.

Chen Cheng turned to look at him.

Wu Dongyi, about the same age as himself, already had white hair at his temples.

He remembered when Wu Dongyi first joined the company, he too was a young lad full of energy.

But now, in just a few short years, life and work had worn him down, leaving him without the youthful vigor he once had.

"There’s always a chance," Chen Cheng patted Wu Dongyi heavily on the shoulder, "Who knows, hope might come tomorrow?"

Wu Dongyi turned around with a simple smile, "What have you been busy with lately? Found a new job?"

"I’ve opened a small restaurant," Chen Cheng replied, "Just started, come by and try it sometime."

"You’re your own boss now?" Wu Dongyi was somewhat surprised, "I mean, we’ve worked together for five or six years, haven’t we? I never heard that you could cook."

Chen Cheng: "I hired a chef."

"Wow, really became a boss!" Wu Dongyi said with a laugh, "Where is it? I’ll definitely come and support!"

"It’s at Big Willow Tree. You’ll see it as soon as you get there," Chen Cheng gave the name of the place, "Wanbao Hall."

"Alright then, I’ll find a time to call others who you were on good terms with to try it out."

Wu Dongyi picked up his Coke, "I’m leaving then."

Chen Cheng nodded, "Yeah, take care."

After Wu Dongyi left, Chen Cheng sat in his original seat, pondering the news he had just received.

"Li Hao? A foreign babe?"

"Wait a second!"

He suddenly realized something. On the agreement signed by Wen Shulin, there was indeed a clause about having children.

But clearly, Li Hao was not Wen Shulin’s son.

Chen Cheng, chin propped on his hand, "Not a son, then that would mean... could it be to pave the way for a future son-in-law?"

But quickly, Chen Cheng negated his own thought.

"That’s not right either! The accent Wu Dongyi mentioned was Taiwanese, and that’s quite jarring with the Hong Kong-based Putonghua of Wen Shulin. It doesn’t fit!"
