Chapter 401: 387, Dear Baby, this is desperate for marriage (2)_1

“Mommy, I will definitely win over Mo Xiao tonight.” A sense of determination flashed in Lola’s eyes, her tone ominously firm.

After tonight, she would definitely move into the position of Mrs. Mo.

Julie looked at her daughter in front of her and had an unsettling feeling. “Lola, what are you planning to do?”

“Mommy, you don’t need to worry about it.” Lola brushed away a tear from the corner of her eye and slowly said, “Just prepare for my wedding.”

Julie choked, looking at Lola with complexity in her eyes.

“Lola, what are you really trying to do?”

Today’s banquet was filled with high-profile dignitaries—all there wouldn’t be able to handle another scandal. Otherwise, the Durand family’s reputation would be utterly ruined.

“Mommy, I…” Lola clearly didn’t want to say more.

“Lola, if you don’t tell me what you’re up to, don’t blame Mommy for stopping you.” When it came to the reputation and benefits of the Durand family, Julie knew what was at stake.

Lola freaked out a bit, then slowly calmed herself and walked over to the dressing table nearby.

Julie watched her calmly, but when she saw what Lola took from the drawer, her face turned pale and she stood up abruptly.

“Lola, how did you get this?” she asked, referring to the item in her hand.

Lola looked down at the small bottle in her hand and chuckled, “Mommy, this is what I am going to do tonight, so please don’t stop me.”

“No, Lola, you’re crazy.”

Julie’s face turned sullen as she quickly strode over, reaching out to snatch the small bottle in Lola’s hand.

Lola hid the bottle behind her, warily watching Julie. “Mommy, this is my last resort.”

If she lost this opportunity, she didn’t know when she’d be able to see Mo Xiao again. She had to make a play tonight, no matter the outcome. 𝓷ℴ𝓿𝓅𝓊𝒷.𝓬𝓸𝓂

Although Julie usually indulged her, this time she definitely could not.

“Lola, listen to Mommy, you can’t use this. If it fails, it will cause a major disaster.”

The contents of the bottle were very well-known among their social circles—an aphrodisiac known as Bewitching Dew, specially developed.

Unlike ordinary aphrodisiacs, Bewitching Dew could dissolve into the air. Once a little of it was inhaled, its powerful effect would kick in within minutes, gradually causing the individual to lose their senses and intense longing to ignite in them. There was no antidote for Bewitching Dew, and no other way to alleviate its effects except by engaging in intercourse.

“No, I won’t.” Lola quickly backed away.

Julie’s gaze hardened, and she tried to grab it. “Lola, listen, give that thing to Mommy. You can’t use it.”

If Mo Xiao was unaffected, and her own daughter accidentally ended up inhaling the Bewitching Dew, the consequences would be unthinkable.

Lola broke free from Julie’s grip and darted behind the sofa. A crazed look appeared in her eyes. “I have no more opportunities. If I don’t seize the moment, Mo Xiao will be stolen from me.”

Mo Xiao must be interested in that silly girl. Otherwise, he wouldn’t be treating her so specially; she’d never seen him so gentle before.

She had been the first to meet him. How could he like someone else? She wouldn’t allow it.

Julie looked at her with a headache and patiently advised, “Lola, listen to me, this thing isn’t as useful as you think. If you carelessly bear the brunt of it, the consequences are something you should be aware of.”

“I will be very careful, Mommy. Can you please not stop me?” Lola pleaded softly, looking at Julie with begging eyes.

Julie hardened her heart and shook her head. “No, Mommy always indulges you, but not for this.”

A shadow passed over Lola’s eyes. She stood up and came from behind the sofa, then seemed to drop to her knees with a thud. “Mommy, I beg you, I really cannot lose Mo Xiao. My plan is foolproof, it will not fail. Don’t you want me to become Mrs. Mo? If Mo Xiao was to be our Durand’s son-in-law, our Durand family would also rise with the tide.”

Julie looked down at her, her face flashed with a hint of vacillation.

“Mommy, if I lose Mo Xiao, I can’t survive.” Lola threatened.

“Lola, you…”

A shiver ran down Julie’s spine at the determination in Lola’s eyes, and she hesitated.

Lola caught a glimpse of the scissors on the table out of the corner of her eye. She snatched it up and pressed it against her own neck.

“Mommy, I beg you.”

“No, Lola, don’t be impulsive,” Julie’s face turned pale and said hastily.

“Mommy agrees with you, I give in, now put down the scissors.”

Upon hearing this, Lola sniffled and slowly put down the scissors.

“Mommy, thank you.”

Julie clutched at her heart, struggling to catch her breath. She said solemnly, “Lola, this is your choice but remember, one misstep will ruin everything.”

“I understand.” Lola stood up, clenching the bottle in her hand.

She won’t lose, absolutely not.

“Whoosh––whoosh––”

The waves crashed against the rocks, creating several feet high white sprays.

The banquet proceeded inside, the games had begun.

Quan Jingwu had gone to the car to fetch his coat, while Jian Qing, not liking the noisy scene, came out to get some fresh air.

The salty sea breeze hit her head-on, making her delicate face even paler.

She leaned against the railings, staring at the bright moon on the horizon, lost in thought.

“Why did you come out?”

A low voice came from above. The next moment, she was engulfed by the dominant male pheromones.

Without turning around, Jian Qing knew who it was.

A smile tugged at the corner of her lips, and she leaned back, pressing herself against his warm chest.

“It’s too stuffy in there. I came out to get some air.”

The man looked down at her dependent posture, and a faint smile appeared on his thin lips. He opened his coat and wrapped her in it.

“Where’s he?”

Without mentioning the name, Jian Qing knew who he was referring to.

“He ran into a few friends.”

Mo Xiao was supposed to come out with her, but he was stopped by a few friends he knew quite well. She had let him stay inside.

“What were you thinking just now?”

“I was thinking about you,” she answered softly.

“Were you thinking about kissing me or hugging me, hmm?”

Jian Qing turned around and looked up at him. “I was thinking about how to beat you.”

“Have you figured it out yet?” He chuckled lightly.

“Not yet, I need to think about it carefully.” She said then pretended to ponder seriously.

“Sweetheart, do you remember the last time we took a cruise?” Quan Jingwu rested his chin on her forehead, a smile in his eyes.

Jian Qing’s lips curled up in a soft smile, her hands wrapped around his robust waist.

“Mhm.”

How could she forget? It was there that they truly became each other’s one and only.

All about him, she would never forget.

“Where do you want to go for our honeymoon?” His question made Jian Qing somewhat stunned.

Honeymoon?

His train of thought jumps a bit fast.

She looked at him, her expression teasing, “Why are you asking me about the honeymoon? I remember a certain gentleman who hasn’t even proposed yet.”

“Are you eager to get married, sweetheart?”

“…”

Jian Qing wanted to curse.

Damn it.

Which of his eyes saw her rushing to get married?

This was a blatant defamation.
