Chapter 466: 452, Don’t forget me in the wedding banquet (1)_1

“Jian Qing, have you two eaten?”

“We have.”

Jian Luo picked up the game controller and continued playing.

Jian Qing watched him engrossed in the game, a hint of depth flashing in her eyes.

“Let’s go and eat first.”

Without giving her a chance to think more, Quan Jingwu led her towards the dining room.

With the end of a game round, Bai Jue pressed the pause button opportunistically.

“Jian Luo, Black Jack hasn’t returned yet. Would you like to call him?”

Jian Luo toyed with the controller, speaking lightly, “No need, let’s not disturb others’ dates.”

His sour tone made Bai Jue shake his head helplessly.

“Then I’ll call.”

Bai Jue took out his phone and dialed Black Jack’s number, promptly turning on the speakerphone in front of Jian Luo.

Jian Luo was fiddling with the game controller, his expression unclear.

The phone only rang a few times before a soft female voice answered.

“Is it Bai Jue?”

Bai Jue’s face changed slightly, and he instinctively looked at Jian Luo, who was nonchalant, fiddling with the game controller.

He wished for a thunderbolt to strike him, encountering one awkward situation after another today.

“Uh, Lis, why do you have Black Jack’s phone?”

Lis said, “Black Jack went to the bathroom, and I answered when I heard it ringing. Is there something you need?”

Embarrassment flashed in Bai Jue’s eyes, and he asked, “Where are you now?”

“We are in a hotel having dinner with Aunt Qiong An. Do you need to speak with Black Jack? I’ll have him call you back later,” she said.

Jian Luo, who was playing with the controller, paused for a moment, a dark, unreadable expression flashing in his eyes.

“Ah, Black Jack is back. Hold on.”

As Lis’s words fell, Black Jack’s voice came over very quickly.

“Bai Jue!”

Brother, you finally answered the phone.

Bai Jue could hardly contain his gratitude. After Lis answered the phone, he dared not ask casually, “Black Jack, will you be coming home tonight?”

The person on the other end of the phone was silent for a while, the atmosphere suddenly became a bit subtle.

“I won’t be going home tonight.”

Bai Jue’s heart thumped.

“How is Jian Luo?” Black Jack asked in a low voice.

Jian Luo glanced over, looking at Bai Jue with a smile that wasn’t quite a smile.

Bai Jue was unnerved by his stare, “He’s in the room playing games.”

Black Jack grunted in acknowledgment, then hung up the phone.

Bai Jue threw his phone on the sofa and plunged himself into it.

Why did he have to make that call, wasn’t he just asking for trouble?

Jian Luo put down the game controller, picked up his tablet, and sat down on the sofa.

His nonchalance was making Bai Jue nervous.

“Jian Luo, what are you doing?”

“Editing a design.”

“A new piece?”

“Hmm.”

“Can I take a look?”

Bai Jue jumped onto the sofa and leaned over to him.

“Why are you changing its name?”

He thought Jian Luo was unhappy with the design draft. He didn’t expect that he was renaming it.

Jian Luo deleted the original name and replied, “As I please.”

“So, what name are you going to use?”

“Crocodile Tears?” he jokingly suggested.

Bai Jue, “…”

It seemed his mood was not very good now and it would be better if Bai Jue got out of his way quickly.

“Lis, you and Black Jack, did he…?” Qiong An took advantage of Black Jack’s absence to inquire about Lis’s situation today.

A trace of disappointment flashed across Lis’s heart, but she still had a smile on her face, “Aunt, thank you for helping me this time, but nothing will ever happen between me and Black Jack.”

Lis had her own pride, too. She had pursued him for so many years without ever receiving any warmth in return. Perhaps it was time to give up now.

Qiong An was surprised, “Lis, did Black Jack say anything to you?”

Lis shook her head and said, “No, perhaps we are not meant to be together. He has never liked me all these years. I shouldn’t keep pursuing him.”

“Lis.” Qiong An sighed gently, patting her hand, “I owe you an apology on behalf of Black Jack.”

Lis smiled gently, “Aunt, there’s nothing to apologize for. Black Jack doesn’t owe me anything. Everything I’ve done has been my own choice.”

She had spent her whole youth on him, and it was time for her to learn to let go now.

In love, there’s no such thing as owning an apology. Especially when it was her unilateral love, she couldn’t force him to like her.

“Aunt, you rest first, I need to get some fresh air.”

“Okay.”

Lis went outside and ran into Black Jack who had just finished his phone call.

“Black Jack, we need to talk.”

Wasting no time, she headed straight toward the terrace at the end of the corridor without waiting for his response.

With his lips pressed into a thin line, Black Jack followed her.

The evening breeze gently blew, messing up Lis’s curly hair.

She turned around and looked at the man next to her, saying in a peaceful tone, “Black Jack, from now on, I, Lis, am no longer in love with you.”

After uttering these words, Lis felt a sense of relief, despite the effort it took.

“So, you don’t need to worry about me lingering around you.”

Black Jack’s brows relaxed, his cold voice softening a bit, “I’m sorry.”

“That wasn’t easy. I’ve known you for so long, and this is the first time you ever apologized to me.” Lis laughed, “I accept your apology, let’s take it as a farewell gift for my long-standing affection for you.”

Black Jack smiled faintly.

“I am taking a plane back home tonight. Next time we meet, I’ll make sure to introduce you to the person I’m in love with.” Lis said cheerfully.

“Hmm.”

“By the way, can I ask, do I know the person you like?” Lis asked curiously while tilting her head.

After pause, Black Jack finally nodded.

Lis smiled, “If it’s him, I wish you two happiness.”

And she graciously accepted her defeat.

In fact, she should have seen it coming a long time ago. After all, his feelings for him were so different. Even the best of friends should have a limit.

Beyond that, there was only one explanation that made sense. That it was love, not friendship.

She extended one hand, “So, we’ll still be friends, right?”

Black Jack raised an eyebrow, shook her hand, “Hmm.”

Lis let go of his hand, “Then I’d better go. Goodbye.”

The moment she turned around to leave, she felt much lighter.

“Black Jack, don’t forget to invite me to your wedding in the future.”

She waved her hand as she walked away, her tall figure exuding a sense of easiness.

“Of course.” Black Jack replied.
