Chapter 59: 59, Neglecting One’s Duties (PK Appeal for Gathering)_1
The break of dawn cast a warm light on the ceiling-length glass window, reflecting an orange glow.
The ring of a cell phone disturbed the silence of the room, its cheerful piano melody echoing around.
A fair hand reached out from under the covers, feeling around the bedside table. Half-asleep, Jian Qing grabbed her cell phone and glanced at the screen. It was a call from Quan Jingwu.
She remembered what he had said the night before.
He had said, “I’ll pick you up tomorrow!”
Was he really coming to pick her up?
Thinking of this, Jian Qing quickly answered the phone, “Xiaojing?”
The soft, sleepy voice of the woman on the phone seemed like a feather brushing across his heart, making Quan Jingwu’s fingers tapping on the steering wheel pause for a moment.
“Mm, haven’t woken up yet?”
Jian Qing was about to nod when she glimpsed the clock on the wall. It was already nine o’clock, which immediately woke her up. “I’m awake now.”
Oh no, she had promised Yifei she would go to the office earlier today.
She was sure to get a tongue-lashing.
Hearing the noises from the phone, Quan Jingwu raised an eyebrow and jokingly said, “Don’t worry, you won’t lose your salary for being late.”
Jian Qing’s hand, which was about to lift the covers, froze, “…”
Realising something, Jian Qing quickly got out of bed. “Where are you now?”
“Outside.” He replied.
Jian Qing hurried to the floor-length windows and looked down to see a black convertible Lamborghini parked below, a man dressed in black sitting in the driver’s seat, one hand on the steering wheel while on the phone with her. 𝓷ℴ𝓋𝓅𝓊𝒷.𝒸𝓸𝓶
In that moment, she suddenly found him lazily sexy.
Her lips curled into a smile, “Have you been waiting long?”
She thought he was joking last night, she didn’t expect him to come to pick her up for real.
“Mm, I’ve been waiting for a long time.” Quan Jingwu’s voice had a hint of laughter, “So, is there a reward?”
Jian Qing laughed, changing the subject, “Is it acceptable for the CEO to arrive late at work?”
“No, I am trying to find a wife for them, they should understand.” Quan Jingwu said with a laugh.
Jian Qing choked with surprise, she didn’t know he had such a sense of humour.
After a little back-and-forth banter, Jian Qing ended the call and picked up some clothes to take to the bathroom.
Quan Jingwu got out of the car and leaned against it, glad for the strong security measures in Shijin Haoting. If not, the reporters would likely have a field day today.
After all, the famously indifferent Mr. Jingwu waiting outside for a girl early in the morning, if this news got out, it would make headlines.
The gate opened with a beep, and Jian Qing walked out, looking fresh and undeniably charming. Quan Jingwu was taken aback for a moment, his lavender eyes lighting up.
She was wearing a white shirt, jeans and canvas shoes. Her high ponytail swayed with her stride. Her bare face was beautiful and radiant, the slight upturn of her lips was inexplicably attractive.
Before he had a moment to take in her appearance, Jian Qing had already walked over to him, looking at him mischievously, “Why, are you here daydreaming first thing in the morning?”
Quan Jingwu’s eyes softened, going along with her tease, “Yes, without seeing you I can only daydream.”
Jian Qing laughed. Quan Jingwu stretched out his hand to open the car door for her. After she got in, he went around the car to get into the driver’s seat.
“Eat something to fill your stomach.” He grabbed a bag with one hand while steering with the other and passed it to Jian Qing.
“You went to Qianshi Restaurant this early?” Jian Qing saw the packaging of the bag and looked at him.
“No, I had it delivered.” Quan Jingwu replied.
“Isn’t that a bit of a hassle?”
“No, it’s fine. I prefer this.”
Seeing that he didn’t look troubled at all, Jian Qing was relieved.
It was fortunate that Quan Mingxuan wasn’t here, otherwise he would’ve been driven to tears by this news. Having to deliver breakfast so early was certainly a hassle.
The engine roared to life and the sports car zoomed off.
“Mm, it smells so good.” Jian Qing opened the lunch box. Her eyes lit up as she saw the contents.
Xiaolongbao, shrimp dumplings and a box of milk.
The brilliant sunlight-like smile flashed in Quan Jingwu’s gaze, he suddenly felt the woman before him was particularly easily content. Just a box of food could make her so delighted.
Halfway through her meal, Jian Qing suddenly looked up at him, “Did you eat yet?”
Seeing her inquire, Quan Jingwu conveniently forgot about his breakfast and promptly shook his head.
“It’s okay, I’ll eat when I get to the company.”
“Mm.” Jian Qing nodded, then went back to being engrossed in her food.
This wasn’t the right script, Quan Jingwu thought.
Shouldn’t she feel a bit moved when she hears he hasn’t had breakfast yet, and then offer him some food?
Quan Jingwu felt a bit depressed, he looked at Jian Qing with a hint of resentment all the way.
“Do you want to eat this?” Suddenly, a shrimp dumpling was near his mouth. Quan Jingwu’s purple eyes brightened; his handsome face immediately lit up.
He bit into the shrimp dumpling, his lips stretched into an involuntary smile.
During the whole journey, in order to enjoy Jian Qing feeding him, Quan Jingwu ate exceptionally slowly, eating far more than his usual breakfast.
Seeing all the cars lined up, Jian Qing heaved a sigh of relief. Thankfully, they drove straight into the garage. Otherwise, if the car had been parked directly outside the main gate, she figured she wouldn’t have peace for the rest of the day.
“I’m going to find Yifei, so I won’t be going with you.” Jian Qing said when she saw they were nearing the CEO’s private elevator.
Quan Jingwu knew she didn’t want to attract attention. He reached out and tousled her hair, “Call me if you need anything, come to my office when you’re done.”
“Mm.” Jian Qing’s face broke into a slight smile.
Reading the text message that Yifei had just sent, Jian Qing went straight to the fifth floor to the photo studio. When she entered, she saw Khan and Yifei, glaring at each other, an air of confrontation filling the room.
“Jian, you need to explain to her.” Khan saw Jian Qing arrive and looked at her as if she was his saviour.
“What’s going on with you two?” Jian Qing asked, amused.
“Jian Qing, let’s stay away from him, he’s no good.” Yifei tugged at Jian Qing’s hand and moved backward, eyeing Khan warily.
Khan was dumbfounded. How was he not good?
If anyone was no good, it was her third brother!
“Khan, what did you do?” Jian Qing looked suspiciously at Khan.
“He said he likes you, you won’t like him, right?” Yifei blurted out before Khan could answer, afraid that Jian Qing would fall for this flirtatious guy.
Khan facepalmed. Just kill him now!
Jian Qing gave Khan a pointed look, teasing, “Khan, how come I didn’t know about this, hmm?”
“No, I meant that I like you as a friend, nothing more.” Khan said straightly, looking serious.
He wasn’t stupid. Falling for her would be like hitting a tofu with a brick – futile.
“You said it, I heard it.” Yifei said, her eyes sparkling, jumping at the chance.
Jian Qing laughed out loud as she saw the look of helplessness and frustration on Khan’s face.
