Liang Chen’s hand tightly gripping Liang Yuan’s neck suddenly lost strength. He lifted his gaze to the bold red letters spelling “Divorce Certificate” on the small book before him, and his head spun in dizziness.
Just this morning, he had enthusiastically taken her to the Bureau of Civil Affairs to collect their marriage certificate. In that moment, he had tasted a kind of happiness he wished to share with the whole world-that he was a married man, the husband of Jing Haohao.
Such joyfulness, he hadn’t had time to fully savour when the aftertaste was still lingering, a divorce certificate was thrown in his face, ruthlessly plunging him from cloud nine to an abyss of despair.
Liang Chen faintly heard something breaking deep within his heart.
Earlier in the afternoon, he had been planning on giving Jing Haohao the disc as well as the surprise gift of “Forever 8:30”.
He had painted everything so beautifully, yet, he hadn’t expected that while he was merrily planning everything, Liang Yuan and Jing Haohao had colluded to play him for a fool.
Liang Chen had always thought Jing Haohao’s indifference, unlove, and rejection towards him was the biggest blow. But now, the brutal reality laid bare before his eyes made him realise he had been merely indulging in fantasy all along.
He loved her, which is why he believed in her unconditionally, trying wholeheartedly to make up for his past mistakes. After receiving the marriage certificate with him, during their peaceful cohabitation and her genuine laugh at him earlier in the day, he thought they had a new beginning. He believed she had forgiven his forgetfulness, even feeling grateful to fate and God’s kindness. However, he hadn’t expected that she would team up with his elder brother to betray him.
In the depths of his heart, he kept telling himself over and over again in denial that everything Liang Yuan told him was a lie.
But this divorce certificate that Jing Haohao left him was truly cruel…she was like a fish stranded on the shore, without a river to return to, only left with despair.
He regrets that now, he doesn’t have any means to fool himself any longer.
He was defeated, utterly defeated.
The woman he loved and his closest elder brother served as his love’s executioners.
Thinking of this, Liang Chen suddenly burst into laughter. His handsome face bore the scars from his earlier fight with Liang Yuan, which made him look somewhat comical as he laughed louder and louder like he heard some hilarious joke.
After a long while, he stopped laughing and slowly got up from Liang Yuan’s body.
His entire body was aching, this movement pained him, turning his complexion pale. He bowed his head and looked at Liang Yuan on the ground and then at his father standing aloof. He nodded his head and said, “Good job, very good, both of you are very competent while I’m just a fool!”
Liang Chen mocked himself and then his gaze turned extremely sharp. He raised his hand to wipe the blood at the corner of his mouth, slightly lifted his chin, looking arrogant and domineering. In a calm voice, he said, “Don’t think that you’ve defeated me like this. Let me make it clear today, either I will remain unmarried for the rest of my life, or I will marry no one but her!”
